If you can’t get all the broccli seeds out where it spilled you can grow them as microgreens

I plant onion seeds, but I also buy starts from Dixondale which do much better than my seeds. I learned from early failures that Onions are heavy feeders, so I give extra nitrogen every two weeks in the beginning.

We just moved our garden to the front yard and have lights on over night and we have had a lot more pests than before in Tampa! I wonder if your theory may be correct!

I heavily plant my beets and turnips in my GreenStalks. When they get nickel to quarter size I will thin. Tops are wonderful in salads and beets are great size for pickling whole, turnips I use like new potatoes. I’m in Ocala and growing French Breakfast radishes this year. The white part is extremely mild giving flavor of radish with no heat red area milder than round radishes. Plus my rabbits love the greens 😁 Try the Emerald broccoli the flavor is excellent fresh or cooked and freezes great.

So true about micro climates regardless of hardiness zone. Just this week I learned that USDA has remapped my 9b to 10a still going to do what I’ve been doing since I journal the year my main concern is planning new natives for pollinators 🤞🏼 time will tell.

I totally agree. I moved closer to the coast in SFL and I can tell you my microclimate here behave more like a zone 11 even when USDA maps said 10b, I even explained it to a plant nursery worker who didn’t believe me lol with the new USDA map it confirmed this with zoning is as 11a

My microclimate is 9b in the backyard, and 10a in the front yard. 😂

Interesting theory - we keep our lights off and have very minimal pest damage. We are harvesting green onions, radishes, chard, kale and lettuce already! Have the former sweet potato bed planted, and everything is up after such good rain.

I am excited to see your garden grow. Not only because I like seeing gardens grow, but to compare how things go because I happened to get my garden planted out earlier. I always wondered what would happen if I planted mine out later... Also, I loved that you still planted out your pepper seedlings, even though they were not ideal. That is the miracle of gardening , seeing plants make a come back, and in some cases, end up being the best!

I am in zone 9a in south Georgia (45 minutes north of Tallahassee). Would your garden planner still work for me to use? Or would I need to make significant modifications?
@WildFloridian
@WildFloridian 7 месяцев назад
Since you are so close to north Florida, yes it would work for you. There is information that is detailed as specific to north Florida. If you were further into Georgia, I would say no. Hope that helps!

Thank you for the awesome video (as usual) I think you're right about the lights at night. Up by Gainesville we have some Very Large Huntsman Spiders (shudder) I started turning off all the lights at night and noticed there are far fewer spiders on my porch now. I attribute it to the lack of prey, thankfully they seem to be back in the woods where they belong

It’s been my experience that when you put a beet seed in the ground more than one sprouts up and I always just leave them all on and they they grow fine they take a little bit of time but they grow fine.

I’ve planted carrots twice and neither time did they come up because I got to 89° both times so I am waiting until December January to plant my carrots again.

Have you tried roasting radishes? I found i like it better than the. Raw. The heat leaves and it's more like roasted root veggies. Just tasty!

Vine borers got to my beautiful squash! Harvested a few, but replanting. Carrots and beets are slow to grow, but radishes and broccoli, beans, peas are doing well.

It’s just kale and mustard greens this winter. Too many construction projects. Kale will take care of nutrition issues and mustard greens are a necessity planting in okra beds because it beats back root knot nematodes that I heard will lag Okra plantings. Mustard greens as a cover crop or I can eat it. Either or, as long as I grow them it will do it’s job. I started mine in cups, separated them into individual tiny pots then plant them chaotically in the food forest amongst native plants.
