Northern CA native; been to Muir Woods many times. Even had an exciting misadventure with some friends when we were in our early 20s. Started out hiking the Dipsea Trail down from Mt. Tam, and somehow lost the trail. We went up and down and over hills and canyons, and decided to just follow our compass north. We came out on a trail in the middle of Muir Woods, and took a while to catch our breath, get our bearings, and cool our feet in the creek. Then we hit the Bootjack Trail to get back to where we'd parked. Exhausting, but fun.
I used to go so early in the morning, I would get there before the rangers and the crowds. It really is worth it to go, Cathedral Grove is probably my favorite spot there, so quiet.
Great informative video! For the least amount of hassle, I would recommend Henry Cowell Redwoods for Bay Area residents, especially if you're in the South Bay. Unlike Muir Woods and Big Basin, you don't need reservations. They have a nice nature trail with some nice old growth specimens and you can go for a longer hike if you wish.
Great stuff, my friend! Thanks! The last time I was there it was equally as wet, foggy, and cool. And yea, now that I think about it, it was probably better that way.
In your opinion, do you think it's worth the extra 6 hour + drive to see the redwoods in RNP or are the ones in Muir woods the same? I'm trying to plan a trip and need some advice. Thank you for the informative videos!❤
If you have limited time don’t do the drive. Redwoods national Park is spectacular but unless you’re going to spend a few days there and do some hiking Muir Woods is a wonderful place to visit. But make sure you spend a day to get to Yosemite!
