At Forodhani Food Market in Stone Town, it is where you will find all fresh seafood and local delicacies as the market turns into a busy street food market at night. You will find all the fresh seafood like squid, crabs, lobsters, octopus and shrimps, spicy delicacies which are well cooked with exotic spices like cardamom, turmeric, and garlic, sweet treats like kalmati and mandazi and other foods like Urojo, Zanzibari Pizza, Shawarma and Biryani..
Zanzibar is a conservative Sunni Muslim society with a history influenced by people from Arabs, Persians, Indians, Portuguese, British, and the African mainland. It has seen an influx of people from these countries. Most of the architectural features were built by immigrants. In ancient times, the island was known for the spice business and many Arabian merchants visited the Island during these times bringing Islam to the Island. The Portuguese also visited the Island and controlled the Indian Ocean which was later replaced by the British. Zanzibar now offers many different cultural experiences which are all added up in the beautiful architecture of Stone Town.
Zanzibar is also home to several rare species. Various species of primates, butterflies, birds and many more can be observed. The red colobus monkey, the Zanzibar Servaline Genet, and the Zanzibar are among the species found in Zanzibar. The red colobus monkey is found in the Jozani forest, and the Zanzibar Serveline Genet is found in Unguja.
Many people consider Zanzibar as one Island. Zanzibar is an archipelago of islands that are located in the Indian Ocean. It comprises several islands, but only two are the larger ones which are Unguja and Pemba. Unguja is the largest one and it is sometimes referred to as Zanzibar. Several Islands are combined named as Unguja, Pemba, Latham, Mafia, Bawe, Changuu, Chumbe, Mnemba, Tumbatu, Uzi, Vundwe, Fundo, Kashani, and Najo Island. The total population of Zanzibar is around 1.3 million people.
