I’ve used an iridium and Walrus ACS1 for a while now. Got to try this out today and i ordered it already. It “breathes” like an amp and just does the thing so well.
Pre-shenanigans, catching some rays and adjusting to the time zone, also doing a little bit of shopping - love you guys hope to meet as many of you as possible outside the NAMM show, Sat at 4pm!
I know you're a high gain guy and are great at that style but my word the first few seconds are great, I wish we could hear you play like this more often.
Those UA pedals sound glorious. Would love to hear you AB the Ruby with the real thing when you return to the rock. Btw, I got back from my first trip to Malta a few days ago. Loved it! Stayed in the old walled city in Valetta and saw the festival of giant puppets the night before we left. Beautiful city. Fantastic seafood restaurants all around the coast. And some of the bluest, clearest sea I have swum in years. Great hotel, lovely people, buses that run everywhere reliably and not at all expensive! Just perfect.
The new UA pedals are sick. But at $400 each, I’d be at $1,200 for all three. I am more tempted by the new TwoNotes ReVolt. It is a tube pedal with three amps in one pedal… a Fender, Marshall, and Soldano, for $500. Sounds great in videos, but not sure yet how it compares to the UA ones.
03:00 that's Lee's & Rob's signature jam! I love that so much. In fact, I'm gonna pause the video, jam a little and come back ... later this evening :)
Lol the Great Lakes really are a marvel. Freshwater seas basically. Growing up in Michigan, it was a trip to see the ocean for the first time and go “oh… it’s like Lake Michigan” 😂
So, running four cable method into the Blackstar combo, effectively replacing the preamp? Was the cab sim still on though? At one point Don says "through greenbacks" referring to one of the presets selected so I'm assuming it was.
Ha ha, Glad you enjoyed the stay out this way in Chicago and sorry you had food poisoning on the ride over. Glad you’ve bounced back and hope California is treating ya well. I leave stupid early Wednesday (my flights at 5:45am), lol. Hoping I can just sleep and watch Spinal Tap on the plane (maybe I’ll rewatch the new Stranger Things season?) See ya at the hangout, Aaron
I don't know if you'll ever make it back to Minneapolis, Rob, but if you ever do, I'd love to show you around town. We have a local place to get Mead, and drink like a Viking!
Sounds great, but i'm confused. Rob says "totally suspends my disbelief that it's not a valve amp." But, isn't he playing the pedal *through* a valve amp? Blackstar combo? Is that amp solid state? If not, aren't we hearing a combination of the Ruby processing through tube amplification?
My name? Oh let me tell you my name. Uh, I'm confused. Because uh you know, like we're supposed to believe in the ministry, right? Is a confused person get a resolution? I don't understand. You see, when you go like that, right, you have a cross, right. Two sticks, right. And that's how I felt when I was in Waterloo. Cuz when I walked in Waterloo and smiled at people, they treated me like a vampire. They used the cross and they went like this by not smiling at me. In Toronto, hey hi guys, you know me. Steve Spiros. Easy going? Those who know me, I'm a nobody. You understand? And you can't kill a person with no body. So, why am I afraid? I'm not afraid. I'm afraid of the boogeyman, who is the Boogeyman? You figure it out! I'm going back to Waterloo where the vampires hang out! And I'm going to wear my sunglasses at night. You know why? Because women show their tits, have short skirts, and they feel violated when I look at them! Why? Because I have sunglasses on and I'm weird. Uh, I'm from humberside. I'm sorry if I made a fool of humberside. But all those people who called me a sleepwalker, I woke up. now I'm going back to sleep because I'm going to be committed in an isolation room, because I'm going back to the ministry and allow them to perceive me as I am! A fuck up! Goodbye! Hey Toronto the good. Look at the square! It was a shithole when I worked here. Now it looks like New York Manhattan! Where are the bums? There's no bums here. Toronto doesn't have bums. But Waterloo, they're creating bums! They created me. Why? I don't know. Maybe it's the church. Talk to the pope, he knows everything. I had it! I'm gonna die! How can you die, when you're dead. Oh wait a second, I'm going to be crucified, right? I'm not going to raise my voice, because I'm committed to the Lord. I love you.
Wouldn't it be cool if Sweetwater sold Chapman guitars? *wink wink nudge nudge* Jokes aside, Sweetwater is a great company. I get much better customer service from them than i do any other store in the US regardless of the products they sell. Great tones from the Ruby. It sounds so incredible. I really hope UA puts out a version with a built in poweramp. At any rate, something like the Ruby and an EHX 44 Magnum would be an incredible pedalboard amp platform for classic rock tones.
Awesome Rob. Was that an FRFR speaker cab you were playing that pedal through? I’ve been looking for a good one for my QC. Oh and again it would be awesome if Sweetwater sold Chapman guitars.
Hello Steve, actually it was just a black star combo, through the clean channel I believe - honestly I think it would sound amazing through pretty much anything 😉
AC-30 ,60s with 2x12 s has the whole cabinet to resonate with and they all sound a bit different. I shall have to try one of these pedals out cos on the phones it sounds too clean and spikey. Great viddy!
Is he playing through the Ruby at 3:31? It's just a bit confusing cos at the start he was playing through the Dream. So I'm not sure when he made the switch.
I just bought one too. How would you use it though? You said 4 cable method but what about through monitors for home recording? What would sound better at home? Through a amp or monitors?
I'm interested in the Ruby, I think all three of these pedals sound good from what I've heard. But the cynic in me.... I've yet to see one reviewer notice that all three of these amp-in-a-box pedals have similar if not identical hardware, and their real differences are from the software loaded into the pedal. Which means UA could sell an "amp-in-the-box" pedal with one or more of the amp model software, and allow customers to purchase software packs to load the other amp models into their one pedal, albeit one amp model at a time. It's like buying three different computers to run three different versions of the same software. Who does that? UA, that's who. The UA money grab will work. If you buy two or more, realize you're paying for extra hardware to get the software model. Rant over, I'll probably be buying the Ruby. 😁
@Electrus Co wrong again as usual. Don't stop believing. 🤣 They're digital modeling pedals, at least in part. Why else would they have firmware, loadable cabinet/speaker IRs and software editors to load and store presets? Do you really think the amp models are analog in hardware? 🤣 edit: the software is likely embedded, on an eprom or similar programmable chip - nothing new. If so, they could have made it possible to update/change the software allowing customers to load any of the three pedal software models, one at a time, into any pedal. But doing this would mean customers would only need to buy one pedal, and the additional software models which likely have a lower profit margin. Source Audio One Series does this. You can buy the OD pedal and replace it and load the fuzz or distortion pedal software, then reload the OD software for example. Thanks for playing. I haven't seen UA respond to confirm or deny my statement; guess someone will have to open one up and post the gut shots.
a lot of self-loving blah-blah and noodling, sounds like recorded with the phone(?); where is the information? this video is for people who spend the whole day watching youtube and being happy watching Rob Chapman eating icecream. nothing here is being discovered...
