Discovery 2 steering ball joint replacement. I'm sure there's plenty of other information out there, but hopefully this helps someone out when undertaking such a job. As stated at the start of the video, I'm not a mechanic, so I'm sure I've used some incorrect terminology here and there. Despite taking several hours, I do enjoy working on the car. The other side will no doubt be quicker. I will however invest in a few more sleeves for the bearing press and shape some so they do not slide around on the axle housing. Land Rover; making mechanics since 1948. ENJOY

Thanks for the video. I replaced my ball joints on my 2001 Disco 2 and it was a PITA! 5 hours to do both sides! Here are some of my tips for anyone doing this job... 1) presoak the ball joint area with PB blaster a week in advance and every day after that to loosen it up. 2) make sure you have a proper ball joint tool kit like @J R1 used in the video Not those ones with only 4 or 5 parts. I'm talking about 10+ parts because you might need to piece together tools to remove the ball joint. 3) Use an impact gun/wrench. I didn't have one at the time I did mine but it was easier when I helped my friend do his ball joints. 4) freeze the new ball joints to shrink (thermal reduction) the metal before installing them. 5) don't drink so much beer when doing this hence my 5 hour install.

Just done mine.Didnt need a special tool.Just used a good gas torch and got it all nice and cherry red and knocked them out with a lump hammer.The new ones had been in the freezer and popped straight in.Took about 1hr each side.

Always good practice to take the jack handle out so if walking around the front whacking your shin or worse drop the vehicle down

Inner axle seal. I found this in an old email of parts orders. FTC4822 should get you started. Don’t forget to get 2 of them if you’re doing both sides.

Nic Hunter I think this was the part. T40 torx fitting. They come in a set -also needed for adjusting the top of the doors, so good to have a few. www.repco.com.au/en/brands/repco/repco-torx-socket-t40-3-8in-drive-rt22222/p/A9402705

Thanks a lot for that video... I m planning on doing that myself too but would love to know what where those tools you used to push the ball joint in and out. My english is not so well and would like to know the name so i can search for them on the net. Many thanks

Martin Rode just google “ball joint press”. I bought a cheap one from eBay ($100). I would buy a better one if I was going to do both side. All the best. Cheers.
