Hi Derek, good to see the oil seal re-do went well. A suggestion: When tightening "your nuts", it would be really useful if you could mention the torque value for as many of them as possible. Keep 'em videos coming!

I think I did on the first Axle video. We should all know them off by heart soon!!

Think we can monitor the torque setting by how many grunts and that'll do's come from working on D2s ha ha

Good job done Derek, another great video, like the tracking rod end replacements. Very handy. Well it's taken a year but finally got the underneath of my D2 (daisy) lanoguard only took a few ours and was very liberal with the spray and used just under 2 liters. So let's see how it goes over the next few weeks underneath.

@sleepycatpictures1176 2 года назад
Well done Craig! I have been trying to do that under mine for ages. Let me know how it goes. Did you derust first, or just blast it on?
@landroverman79
@landroverman79 2 года назад
@@sleepycatpictures1176 cleaned the underneath with some traffic film remover removed that with warm water through the jet wash, let it dry off for a day and the bad sections got a quick wire brush, then covered in the lanoguard. Had the long thin hose that came with it for the chassis rails got right inside it and gave a good coating. Had the D2 up on some wooden ramps to easy get to parts

I think that that track rod balljoint is knackered. I wouldn't have bothered changing the ball joint dust cover for that reason.

@sleepycatpictures1176 2 года назад
The ball joint cover was an experiment. A cheapy from ebay. We'll see if it lasts. It was floppy, but very little actual play in it.

Ello Derek. Went remarkably well/ quick as you say, you'd learnt from last time. I'd worry tho about the damage to the seal that the scaffold poll done. I think, although I'm definitely no mechanic that the track rod end was rather knackered, looked a bit too floppy & easy to move about. Also I'd have thought the the cable tie joint, could dig in to/split the rubber also? But as I say, I'm no mechanical marvel, so just an opinion. Fingers crossed it all holds out for you this time. Stay lucky. Stay safe. Stay healthy. Alan L200

Yes, annoying that scaffold pole. It was the only thing I could find of the right diameter. I'll have to get some proper drifts. The ball joint cover was an experiment. We'll see how it lasts!

Noticed you are using a straight extension for your sockets. Have a look at wobbler extensions for sockets, you will find them better at getting the socket flush with the head of the nut/bolt. Back to talking with one of the Scottish Glens within the glass medium.

Thanks Martin, nice to hear from you. I have some of those extensions, in another set, but I keep forgetting to use them!

Hi Derek. You could have left the hub on the drive shaft. Save having to tighten hub nut.

@@grenebulax Good Luck! Don't oil the new seal! You don't have to undo the big driveshaft nut, just pull the half shaft out. Replace carefully. I still have the drivers side to redo. It's been okay so far.

@@sleepycatpictures1176 I'm replacing both half shafts, hubs, and seals. Was flooded in salt water. On the front end. Hubs and shafts are fused together so may as well replace it all.

Is it necessary to remove the axle nut since the axle is being removed?

were you getting a 2-3 inch pool of gear oil puddle on the passenger side each morning?

No, just general oily mist around the area and hub.
