Could you make shims to your solid crushsleve? Make one or two "standard" sleeves and then a bunch of shims? Would save you and JP some time! Keep up the good job!!

Thought about that, but it is finding the right dimensions that is the issue - if I find the correct ID, then the OD is too large etc

hello I live in France, and I am restoring a defender 90 with a 200 tdi engine from a discovery. the gearbox is a stumpy r380 and the lt230 comes from the discovery. I understood that in your video it was not just the gear ratio that changed to switch to a defender. Can you please. take a moment to note the changes I need to make to switch to defender. Thanks a lot

Depends on how strong your engine is - the 90 can pull a 1:22 ratio as it is a lighter vehicle, but loaded up with a trailer is another matter - depends on what you want to do with the 90

@@BritannicaRestorations first of all thank you for your quick response. It's a vehicle that I will use for weekend trips to the slopes with a tent on the roof, driving on the road, and occasionally towing 2 light horses. I had thought about the new 1:301 ratio in order to have less engine rpm and keep enough torque. The engine will be original. On the other hand, in your video if I understand correctly, you talk about physically different parts between a discovery lt230 and that of a defender. Is that the case?

If you are going to tow a large weight like a horse box, then I think a STD 1:44 transfer case would be best

58.6mm - 59.5mm There is no fixed size - you have to machine them to fit

What kind of preload are you aiming for when getting the correct length of this tube?

Is there any way to fit a 1999-on Defender electronic speedometer transducer to a Discovery 2 transfer box? I'm planning on building an Ibex but the current IVA (1 April 2022 dated) inspection manual states quite clearly that you cannot use a speedometer that relies on GPS is not permitted.

The D2 got the speed signal from the wheel speed sensors The speedo pick up is not machined out You need to fit a D1 or earlier defender rear extension housing with the speedo drive Attention! It is not just a matter of swapping the extension - you may have to re calculate the shimming of the centre diff

Depends on what you need it for - if you are doing heavy off-road in mud and very loose surfaces, then I would recommend a diff lock, but say you were on a muddy field occasionally, then it will work very well without a diff lock
