Thank you so much for this video, have been searching the net and even talked to mechanics to find the location of the breather pipe. You have now made that really clear, thank you so much.

@@DuncanMorris-zy7dn I cant remember sorry but HPD do a complete kit for the territory that's what I used in the end to retro fit to mine www.4x4modsaustralia.com.au/HPD-OCC-B-FT-SZ-Oil-Catch-Can-Territory-SZ-2013

Great video man! Always wondered where in the circuit it should be placed so learned something new today. Thanks from a fellow D3 owner in Norway. 🚗🤙

Was told the engines do not need a catch can. However I fitted a German catch can, and I drain about 50ml of dirty oil every 6000KM.
@OUTBACKDiscovery
@OUTBACKDiscovery 2 года назад
They have a built in crankcase separator * catch can without any gause inside * so it does separate some oil however fine vapour still gets in that's where the catch can works better I'm definetly happy I done it to mine my intake is staying so much cleaner

Not sure if you remember but I did fit a HPD catch can to my D3 and hooked into exactly where you have pointed out. Just ordered a Ford Territory kit and cut the bracket to suit fitting the unit behind the left hand headlight.

I remembered asking you but never looked into the actual hose you spoke about it did all make sense when I was chasing it all back haha So you used the Ford territory kit did the bracket work good

@@OUTBACKDiscovery I’ll see if I still have some pictures off it. But yer, the kit worked well and I just trimmed the mounting plate and drilled a few extra holes in it.

@@OUTBACKDiscovery going to be having the oil pump done very soon on my 05 girl, will do water pump at same time, and most/all coolant pipes and timing belt at the same time, and get the intercooler flushed and cleaned anything else you could suggest I get done with all that off the front end? I’d really value your input and experience on that, too scared to try going that deep myself however. ;-)
@OUTBACKDiscovery
@OUTBACKDiscovery 2 года назад
@@guyharding2298 I think you pritty mich have everything covered only other thing I'd say is make sure you get a new bolt for your crankshaft pulley when you do your oil pump as they're are a torque to yield bolt ( stretch bolt) and shouldn't be re used. Good luck with it all Oh and also do your fan hub assembly as it mounts in behind the timing cover

Hello, thanks for the the video, well done! I'm not sure that I understand what this oil catch have in interior. Basically it is something to change, or just to clean?
@OUTBACKDiscovery
@OUTBACKDiscovery 2 года назад
Hello Mihnea My particular catch can is just a metal gauze for the engine crank case air to flow through , any oil sits on the metal gauze and falls to the bottom I basically just have to drain mine out every now and then The provent 200 runs a filter which you replace every 30,000km from memory but drain every service Depends on which type you buy as the Wether you have a filter or just metal gauze

Thanks for the really informative vids, I like how you even give the spanner sizes and torque settings. I’m in the process of fitting a catch can right now, using a ryco unit from Supercheap and this has really helped. While you have your engine out can you let me know the tube size of the pipe, much easier for you to get to the tube than me!

I've not checked over the 3ltr sorry but considering they are such a similar engine and layout I'd say it must be a pretty close process for fitting a catch can Not certain though sorry

Good explanation, interested in following this. Would a catch can be more beneficial if EGR’s were removed, or no different?
@OUTBACKDiscovery
@OUTBACKDiscovery 2 года назад
Morning yeah it would still benefit just not as much as of you had an egr Keeping the oil out of your intake system is a good thing as it helps your intercooler work more efficiently and doesn't dirty your map sensor as quickly giving you more accurate readings
@rustytwinkles7762
@rustytwinkles7762 2 года назад
hey mate, haven't done my pully tensioner yet had to order fan spanners.. so from this video about the catch can and egr valves so was it a good idea to blank the Egr valves
@OUTBACKDiscovery
@OUTBACKDiscovery 2 года назад
Blanking the egr stops the exhaust gases going into the engine So you won't get that black build up like in the photo You will still get oil all through the intake from the crankcase which is what the catch can will remove most of Basically if the egr is blocked and you have a catch can fitted it keeps your intake as clean as you possibly can Bare in mind you can be defected for blanking off you egr as technically your not aloud to do Ir

Are there any pre fuel filters for these tdv6s? I’m struggling to find any place
@OUTBACKDiscovery
@OUTBACKDiscovery 6 месяцев назад
I havnt come across one but honestly never had an issue with the factory fuel filter not being enough I changed mine every 15k * which is every 2nd oil change for me* or after I've got back fron a big trip and fuelled up is a some remote areas to be safe though

I just installed a catch can. I did have my oil separator pop out once. You had any issues?
@OUTBACKDiscovery
@OUTBACKDiscovery Год назад
Never had a drama with my oil separator popping out But did have a drama a few months back with my catchcan hose getting wedged between the engine and body closing it off It pressurised my sump as the crank pressure had no where to go and pushed out the front oil pump seal
