DISCOVERYOPT ED-ELR 5-40X56SFIR FFP: How does it compare to other budget optics?

A scope packed with a ton of features that seems to be well built. Falling a little short in one area but definitely has the ability to get the job done depending on its intended use... Do you think this might be something you'd pickup?
Note: The test target was set incorrectly and should have been placed at 100yrds. After confirming this with the manufacturers of the targets used for testing. So this optic performed well into the acceptable margin of error.

Like most of us we don’t have $700-$3000 to spend on the scope. Budget optics do help I agree with you. I think this for a 22 NRL would be great and also I think it would be good for a centerfire also specially for people that don’t have a lot of money in their firearms .. keep the reviews coming

A lot of scopes won't come with batteries now because hazmat shipping regulations have changed. It's cheaper for them to have you buy one on your own

Not a bad looking scope. But not coming with rings and a battery. But I must say I like the rings you got for it. Thanks for the review video.

Good review. Is there a budget scope you recommend for an ar10?
@TheHide
@TheHide 2 месяца назад
Honestly I think this one would do very well. Also check out the review I did on the CVLIFE Bear Power scope. I actually have it on one of my AR10s and it has been doing very well after extended shooting with it on that rifle. Thanks for watching.

They typucally dont ship the scopes with batteries because of hazard fees for batteries. Also if you flip your box to bench precision target you will be able to turn the turrets in the normal direction as opposed to counting in reverse. (Just re-number the target and you are good to go) Good video!

Thanks for the tip, Appreciate ya watching! I had wondered why the target was setup this way. Very useful target but the counting backwards does suck lol

I have been waiting for this one as you know. Got filming done with mine a few days ago, working on editing and getting it up sometime soon. Just comparing notes with the following- My sentiments as well regarding the rings. I noticed during the tracking portion of your video, aside from the cam footage being blurry (not the easiest to record through a scope, I know), the rifle/scope did not stay 100% securley locked down during the entire test (you could see it moving up/down/left/right often). I'm sure you did everything within your power to keep it as steady as possible, but I can't help but wonder if this at least somewhat affected where the reticle landed during the tracking test. Not saying it tracks perfect, just that perhaps some of it was the fact that it wasn't 100% securely fastened for the test. Regarding the magnification, clarity, and eyebox- I was surprised to hear you say you noticed the edges of the image at 24x starting to distort, as I did not experience this. Perhaps it's the vastly different terrian, you in the woods compared to me in the open fields, or even difference in eyesight between us- but I honestly didn't even notice much difference at 40x (only very slight distortion), and even got some decent still frames at 40x clear out to 1 mile with mine. I had to get my eye in just the right place on 40x to see it clearly, but it was decently clear I thought once I found that sweet spot. Again, could be the terrain differences or our own individual eyes- or even your example of 1 vs my example of 1 having slight variances perhaps. Sorry for the long comment but I'll close with this... Since you are more experienced with scopes in general than I (especially in this price range and higher), I would just like to know in your opinion how it compares to other $300-$400 scopes of similar nature- i.e. large tubes, large objective lenses, 24x magnification or greater, with christmas tree or similar reticle. Because as stated I do not have a ton of experience with these types of scopes in the $300-$400 range (or higher), but I feel like one would be hard pressed to find a better scope like this one for the same $350. Like what about Arken, Riton, Primary Arms, etc? Those seem to cost more- near $500 for something similar it looks like. So if you tell me a $500 scope is better than this $350 scope, I wouldn't be surprised because it costs more. But what about other similar scopes at a similar price? I'm not sure one better for the same price exists. And I'm not defending the scope at all- I am genuinely curious. If you told me scope A, B, and C are better for around the same price, I would be ecstatic...

Yeah it was almost a mil an half off so not likely the table equated to all that but nothing is guaranteed. I can say the system was used for the all the other scopes without that much variation. Not sure what the deal was with the cam, it just did not like that scope for some reason but clear enough to at least see the graduations. Yeah not sure on what you experienced with the clarity as I just report what I see. But could just be relative to the shooters eye. As far as an honest assessment I would follow-up with how I ended the video in saying that this scope was exactly what you would expect for the price. The glass clarity was actually not bad at all until you got into the real high power ranges. Which is typical for the type of glass you're paying for in a scope like this. Tracking was a bit lacking from what Ive seen with other manufacture but Honestly very few shooters turn dials especially with the type of reticles a lot of the newer scopes use. Its easier to use the reticle. Honestly for the price range about everyone of them is about the same with very minimal differences setting each one a part. For the price paid Ive been most impressed with that CVLIFE BearPower for cost vs clarity. Unless you're into the 4 digits for an optic non of them will have adequate tracking to shoot a match with IMO. When such a small adjustment can cause you to score or drop a point on a target. So if you're looking to spend a set amount of $500 on a new scope it really falls into shooter preference from what Ive seen. Since so little actually set them apart. As far as my own personal experience the only 500 dollar scope that has impressed beyond the general population has been the HD glass from Element in their Helix HD series. A scope that's in the $500 dollar range with glass clarity that I would put against scopes twice the cost. But looking through this scope compared to say the HD glass in my Riton 7 Conquer its night an day difference compared of the two. Again, just my opinion which is worth exactly what you paid to hear it... In closing the thing is most guys will never use what a NightForce, High end Leupold type of scope offers as compared to the $300 dollar scope as they are just sitting them and forgetting them. No need to worry about the internal erector system if you're never going to truly be using it for what its intended use is. The $300 CVlife or Dyscoveryopt will do you just fine. Hope this helps an thanks for watching.

@@TheHide Thanks! anyway! I was just thinking about these two in comparison, but may asked you again on the quality of the discovery scopes’ zero stop that I want to know of, as for the Arken, it has 3 set Allen screws on the side of the elevation turrets & another one on top, that is drawn deep on the hole as you tighten the 3 on the sides to hold the zero!
@TheHide
@TheHide 2 месяца назад
@domingoliao2724 I totally forgot to put that in the review but this scope has a very robust zero stop. A simple lock ring collar using set screws engage with a machined portion of the scope. Ill have to edit this in the description. But I think the zero stop is definitely nice.

I am hesitant to buy another one of those brands despite some positive reviews, as you have tried the elevation turrets! there’s some kind of slop! or what I mean that it doesn’t stop right on to every hash marks on the turret! I have one that doesn’t really stop at perfect zero on its’ hash mark! unlike the Arken that is very audible and falls right to every hash mark on how many clicks you dial on!

An absolute no no. Not good tracking, no clear image past 24 magnification, a few cheap toys in the box to play with but no scope rings, no warranty honored once you pay for it, a real chinese quality experience! Somehow in this review you find every justification for the poor performance of both product and video production. Waste of time.
