Fund-raising programme School Days is warning that the basic education department should not blame the COVID-19 pandemic for poor literacy rates. We discuss this further with School Days CEO Paul Esterhuizen. #DStv403
Don't put the burden entirely on schools. Parents contribute the most by making sure their toddlers have books and read to them every day. Children do best at school if they can read before they start school. This is an impossible task in SA. Parents themselves are not literate, books are non-existent, kids grow up with TV and the school system is broken. Kids don't have a chance. 😞
@@suezcontours6653 That's pretty heartless. Huge numbers of families have women who are "head of the household". Fathers are not present for many reasons. Mothers have to work to put food on the table. It's impossible to apply First World standards here. Books are a very low priority compared to a plate of porridge in the morning, and perhaps a bit of bread before kids go to sleep. Many don't even get that.
@@pandoraalberts5267 And that's not a good thing. Kids need their parents in their lives to help them succeed. And you need to hold blalc men accountable by heading the household. Stop the Single mother household Western propaganda. It's produced bad results. Africans need to turn Muslim if they keep pushing this agenda
