I prefer to type initially, because (like you) I type CRAZY fast. Then I print everything out and do paper edits and revisions, because I get screen-blind and miss too much if I only do digital edits. BUT! If I have a block or haven't written in forever, putting pen to paper for a page or two gets my brain back in the right space to really knock down some words.

It has helped in so many ways! It's nice to know it works for others as well.

I started out handwriting and them typing up and editing. I did this until my fibro made it impossible and then I went right back to just typing and it works for me. I think you should count both sets of words if you do them on the same day because its not just copy/paste but actually writing/working on them.

I imagine there will come a time when I can't handwrite anymore. I want to get back into dictation, but it's been so long and I used to dictate while driving to and from work (just recording voice Dragon could transcribe later), but the vehicle I use is too loud for that to happen. Dragon hears too much wind and engine noise to transcribe accurately. Maybe once I have finished my current course and am working on something with more lenient due dates I'll try again while doing chores, but at the moment... Working with what I've got when I've got. Thank you! The word count was really screwing me up because I added about 500 extra words the other day when I was typing what I'd originally handwritten, without changing up what I'd already handwritten. I just added more details and backstory I hadn't thought of until I was typing. It was a surreal feeling in some ways. And I'm glad you found a system that works for you. You're always knocking out a lot of your goals and it's exciting to see it every time you post a goals check-in. Makes me giddy happy. 😊

@@SDHegyes I have when it comes to drafting, and somewhat with revising. I’m still working on the editing one. Mostly because, I think, it’s never the same. Like the process has similar parts, but even revising, you don’t always follow the same steps in the same order and go from there. It’s always different and it’s just hard to really work out what works and what doesn’t. Revision is a beast for me because sometimes I find it easy as anything, I make my outline and it’s all smooth sailing, and then other times the outline doesn’t come into it until like draft five and it’s like pulling teeth! You’ll get there with finding something that works for you and then there’ll be no holding you back!

I handwrite and hand-rewrite on some days, on others, I type or dictate. It all depends on what kind of day I am having since the stroke. But developing a story I often use the Writing the Tree method, with my Thirty Question Character Interview then a 15-step editing process. It's convoluted but it works for me. To be honest, I do not think my writing will ever be a full time job for me because I don't write for thirst traps. I have so many books, but marketing is expensive and time consuming and I have neither time nor energy to do it. I help other authors when I can but I have accepted that unless there is a major shift or one of the asian animation studios discovers my books. It will just be something I love and am leaving for my children.

I'll have to look up Writing the Tree method. That's a new one for me. I started doing character interviews when I first started writing and discovered it was just a way for me to procrastinate the actual writing because half of what popped up in those questionaires never made it into the story. That's not always a bad thing because it means you know you're characters really well, and it gives you a lot of tidbits to use for marketing. I'm currently trying to figure out character birthdays as a fun tidbit for readers. Just that, for me, I spent too much time trying to figure out my characters and not enough time developing the story. Yeah... Thirsty traps are another reason why I'll probably never sell a ton of books. Sometimes I have a smexy scene or two, but rarely, and I try to be... discreet about them... They don't last for pages, and again, only one or two, if any. Most of the time I have all the sensual fun that leads to smexy times without the smexy times or fade to black. It's what I prefer to read and what I prefer to write. Give me the pining and the angst and the romance without smut and I'm in love. But that also makes it hard to market because so many works out there in the same genre I write in LOVE the smut, which means I struggle to find comparible titles. Not impossible. Just harder. I loved getting your input on Monster's Treasure, and if you're up to it when the time comes (no where near ready yet), I'd love your help with the rest of the stories (4 currently, but that may grow 😑 much to my annoyance) that have decided they want a chance to be part of the series. 💙
