When I watch these openings, part of me wishes Disgaea was a more serious game. But then again, the rest of me says: "Hey, but then it wouldn't be Disgaea, right?"

cootycooty1 NIS has already confirmed that Disgaea 5 is PS4 only, period - among other things, the Vita's apparently not strong enough to handle it (people often think it's a low-requirement game because of the graphics, but actually, the requirements to run all of the sprites - and D5 will have a LOT of sprites - are pretty high).

Asagi needs to be the main character and not a cameo character in ever NIS game ever. (No really I can't think of a single NIS game off te top of my head where she is not present in some way or form. (Literally. Prinny asagi ftw).

Matthew Rester Actually Asagi's game was never released, the idea to make the game was floating about but they never got around to its development. Instead they made Asagi a side character in almost every game and made a item called "Makai Wars". It is unclear if Nippon Ichi plans to put the idea back on the board. This is the reason why Asagi says that she is the "Main character" of a "Lost game" its because Asagi while invented, never had her game invented...which is also why she has no permanent voice actor like other characters from the game series seem to have. (with the exception of Etna and Pram who stared in a game and had their voice actors changed later on)
This new guy looks like a combination of all the previous characters minus Mao. Hmm i wonder if they'll ever make a disgaea game were all the characters of the previous game have main character roles. there not just side character they all contribute to the story. the only real time that happened closly was in Disgaea 3 were Overlord Baal aparently steals everything from everyone.
Yeah, it's hilarious how most of the main cast of this show are over 3000 years old. They literally age in appearance around 200 times slower, and with that logic I feel that most demons that live full lives end up dying of age in the 10,000 to 12,000 years.
matthebandit king I don't see Laharl and Adell end up in a serious fight, with Hanako working in Laharls palace as cook and Etnas apprentice that doesn't seem likely to me. Maybe in a tournement setting...
One thing they should implement in the game is a social kinda of feature much like found in the Persona series so that we can get more out of the characters as oppose to characters having a set point objective and are there solely for the story. Nonetheless the game looks good. Played the TGS demo and it looks and feels like what a Disgaea game should be. The graphics are also quite colorful and vivid. :D Can't wait!

i doubt it. Its disgaea, it's bound to be crazy else its not disgaea. The story itself could be serious but i doubt that as a whole it will be like that since else they would have to change the whole world thus making it a completely universe and not a digaea game.
When you have a setting that is literally called gorgeous world and a girl who must eat curry to not go insane. Seriousness goes right out the window. Plus look at the tropes concerning these guys its not that serious.

Mr_Dragon True, but unfortunately that will still be quite some time - especially since the PS4 is the most demanded console of its generation (even though the PS3 is far superior, though the PS2 had a much better treatment of its user).
Nat55ata I don't think any console is worthwhile until it has a good, wide library. Which is why with home consoles, I wait until the midpoint or endpoint of their lifespans (only got a PS3 a year ago, for example).
The choir is awesome, but the song isn't quite as catchy. Plus, the action doesn't seem to be as intense to me. Still this will be my first PS4 game to get when I get one.
TreeFolkDruid This may sound like a generic response but each one has its quirks. They add and remove features every game so it feels like each one has something it does better than the others. Watching a montage of the D4 or DD2 specials for all the characters though you can't help but appreciate the older games, even the ones you didn't find as enjoyable during your play through.
TreeFolkDruid I like 2 the best as well, but Ive had a lot of fun with all of them. Its liek asking me to pick out my favorite pokemon game. I'll tell you it was Pokemon Black, because it is, but I still love the others. Except yellow. Did not care for Yellow. Similar with Elder Scrolls games. I love Morrowind the most, but I have a lot fun with all of them! Despite the fact that Bethesda refuses to just give us our damn spears back. I mean, they put werewolves back. And they put freaking crossbows back which no one even wanted. And then they put in Riekling spears and it was like "Yay spears and oh wait they're arrows." Which wasnt a very nice thing to do. ...Sorry, I seem to have gotten off track.
Laharl would have been my absolute favorite if they didn't ruin his character development in later series. They show him as he didn't learn a single thing from first Disgaea's story, and he contnues to be a selfish annoying brat. Sometimes it's fun, but...yeah. This is not how you write a character. And I don't care for fancy attacks and aniations, that's not what makes me attracted to a character. Adell stays true to his character all the time. So he's probably my favorite.
The amount of SAO\Valvatorez "rip-off" callers is astounishing. Seraphina looks the most dissapointing due to the whole Vulcanus look and attitude like otherwise the rest is fine
Gameplay will be great no matter what but here is my problems. 1.the intro seems like its trying too hard to be angsty and serious this is disgeae guys the only disgeae that had serious content (OP) was D4 (and somewhat D2 but the lighhtearted mode overpowers it) and it was semi and lapped between serious and lighthearted which keep it calm yet sent the message about the characters and hinted the story a bit. 2.most of the character designs looks too anime like it doesn't look too much like disgeae does not seem much creative at all to me like the guy with glasses and short champloo rip off kid, I remembered designs like desco from D4 or tink from D2 the series usually have at least one sub character with a full demon formed body seems like they are pandering to anime otakus somewhat might just be me though. 3.the pink haired girl looks like a combination of Rasberyl and rozalin, just an observation. 4.from what I am seeing of Killia (new mc) if thats his name is anyways he seems like the edgy angsty teen archetype I mean he caused a new mechanic which resolves around REVENGE which most people may find irritating about is character if this is so about him especially for Disgeae ,hope I am wrong there because I can't take tat edgy kind of crap. but I believe it will be a great game regardless its one of the few game franchises where you can run around with million of hp ,Lv 9999 crushing everything in your path. now looking at comments ,many people saying it looks like sao..huh no wonder why the character designs felt generic. shitty a-1 pictures and retarded Kirifag fans...
It sucks that I can't get this game for PS3, but I will say that I am a little disappointed in the two main characters. Yes they look like Valzy and Artina, but LOOK it is another Fist and Gun themed heros. I want the main character to use like bows and the side to use.....axes or something. I just want something else beside sword, sword,fist, sword, sword. And finally I loved the song but not the intro that's about it. Still looks fantastic and I hope to play this game someday. I tip my hat to you next-gen owners.
Darkshade Clemens hopefully NIS will make some of the characters in the trailer monster class. So far from what I've gathered the mc is a humanoid, penguin loli is a monster, I think the purple eyed succubus is humanoid, and the gray haired demon with the black jumpsuit is a humanoid, not sure about the rest.
I feel you're pain bro i'm dissapointed at NISA for making this game only for ps4 and for what reason? oh just just to have over 100 characters on the stage map i mean really? wtf? first they say this game was gonna be for both ps3 and ps4 and later thet¡y change the're mind for a absurd reason like that? im more used having 10 character's on the map then over 100 is gonna look so damn cramped in there.
Wow, never thought this series would reach to a "5". Happy this is still alive, but I kinda wish Phantom Brave would get this kinda love too (than again, could they make it as good? Maybe, maybe not) since Disgaea got me into Phantom Brave in the first place. I may not have really been able to play the sequels since I don't have a PS3 and didn't get a PS2 until a few christmases ago, but I'm still happy for this announcement! :3
You know what. I want laharl to be the main antagonist in a disgaea game. That's right. The main bad guy sayin shit to you the whole way through while you play as a new set of characters. Then once you beat the game laharl runs away and at around level 1000 he comes back and rematches you to recruit him. Okay ignore that, but having him as the main badguy from the very beginning would be an interesting change. I would also imagine writing a story that makes sense is this would be a little challenging. Only a little because disgaea is jokey and stuff. With some serious undertones from time to time in each game. Or a serious theme with a lot of jokes and not very serious characters. (Pretty much all the main characters up Til now. Serious ambitions. Not so serious personalities and habits)

I feel like every time the animation in these openings improves, the songs get worse. DD2's was fine but felt too "BlazBlue-y". This one is completely forgettable, which is a shame since they used to be very catchy. I guess TGFP's OP was catchy, but it's hard to screw up latin chanting.
Zeke Freek I was disappointed that Disgaea 1 didn't have an opening, the Disgaea 2 one was pretty awful IMO, I liked Disgaea 3, 4, and D2, I'm not saying I don't like this one but I feel it could have been better.
Why do awesome things like these have to turn out to be games instead of anime? -_-. It's so disappointing and kinda misleading unless you knew from the start it was a trailer for a game.

Jeez, another demon with crazy overlord powers. Its not that I hate the character but majority of main characters in disgaea are demons its getting a lil bit repetitive in my opinion. I hope they make a hero that comes from celestia in the next game
same here I was hoping for a human based MC (adell wouldn't count having demon parents) ,one that is 100% human they could do so much with a character like that in disgeae's setting ,it would be a breath of fresh hair from all the overlords of power.
Laharlrocks Oh geez, god forbid a game series about demons has demons for main characters.A hero from Celestia would be nice but there wouldn't be anything interesting to see if we set it in Celestia - everything's so orderly there compared to the chaotic fun time that is the Netherworld.
Laharlrocks The Disgaea series has Demon main characters and takes place in Demon worlds, I doubt they will change that. If you'd like for a Human main character in a NIS game with the same game mechanics as Disgaea, you would have to hope for an La Pucelle 2 (which they pondered but haven't decided to do). If you haven't played it yet, I'd recomment La Pucelle Ragnarok for PS Portable. It didn't get translated, but the new story segments got fan translations in the internet and the game mechanics got some cool upgrades, that make gameplay more fluid. p.s. Send a sign to NIS everyone, if you don't have them yet buy the La Pucelle DLC's for Disgaea D2, even if you don't own the game, buy Dark eclair for Disgaea 2 as well!
Damian Freeman Imagine a trainee or something coming to the demon world for a mission. It's easy enough to create a context as to why a non-demon would come to the netherworld since side characters have them ALL THE TIME to explain why they need to fight you.
Astra Demonica It has no visual flare or fancy moments. It's quite literally 'LOOK AT THE GENERICS AND THE MAIN CHARACTERS! AREN'T THEY COOL?' Disgaea 2 had while bland, helped paint the tone for the story and the relationship for Adell and Rozalin Disgaea 3 was the school anthem and showed off the life of the Honor Students and had the Zombie Dance. Disgaea 4 had lots of really neat moments to show off how the characters acted. Valvatorez being a non-standard vampire who loved sardines, Fuuka being a Prinny(?), and Desco being a final boss(lol). Disgaea 5 comparatively, is just a bunch of people looking brooding and thrown into a battlefield in the song's climax. Aside from things like Usalia's curry love and Majorita's zombie army, it is just a REALLY generc anime opening.
Well, now that I've seen the best part of the game it's time to wait for the cameos and funny scene videos as well as the special montages and I'll have basicaly played disgaea 5(minus the hundreds of hours I would have played to get to those part legit). I "completed" 1 and 2 and finished 3 and only watched parts of 4 as prescribed in the first paragraph and I gotta say..4 is fave cuz I have no bad memory of frustrating battles or a playtime to remind me that I spent nearly weeks of my time grinding. Disgaea is for the kind of people that get a quest to go kill 2000 of something one by one, turn that it and go:"that was lovely can I have another?" Followed by a heavy sustained fire hose ejaculation
