Ultimately, I enjoyed both stories written by Atsuhiro Tomioka and the duo Takehito Harada & Arashi Shindo. The anime made me enjoy the characters in unique, believable ways (except in the first episode. That was the wackiest). Playing through the game then watching the anime shed some light on questions or plot holes within the game, or even made me laugh or cry more at the jokes and sad moments. I really... really loved the build up of the subtle jokes. And boy, the anime did really well on leaving such a great mark of a rewatch-able anime. Zero fluff for the definitely underrated cour anime that is amazing to watch in both English dub and Japanese dub. :)) I watched it in both. No matter what demonic or angelic opinions anyone has, it coexists, and I respect all of those ideas. Props to the Dark Assembly earning enough funds for their mobile game, and I hope to see further production for animated films or games in general! ❤️
i first saw this clip from Disgaea2 on ps2 and that was my first experience of disgaea series. they had this clip on the menu i can select and see. I never understood why this even existed. but now that im playing Disgaea PC version on steam, i get it now XD
You can find it in Disgaea 2 I think. It's a promotional video for the anime. And believe me,in the anime Laharl wipes the floor with everything. IMO the anime is more like fanfiction written by Laharl himself.

If only the anime was THIS awesome. But regardless, I felt the anime was an example of a one cour anime done right. Plus, is it just me, or is the english track for Disgaea more popular than the Japanese one? First, Prinnies are generally associated with "dood" rather "desu~". And the "37th generation Defender of the Earth, Captain Gordon" I feel is quoted more for his english lines rather than his Japanese ones.
GoodwillWright the prinnies say ッス (ssu) in Japanese to end their sentences. This is a colloquial form of desu. I'm not quite sure how to better translate it than they did in a one word catchphrase kind of way but I think they choose accurate tone over accurate meaning here. One thing that's lost is that it implies desu in situations where that word is unnecessary or inappropriate. In disgaea 5, besides her catchphrase pyon, (bouncing sound, you know, like a rabbit) she also uses desu in its full form unnecessarily and at least to this foreign learner it gives her a childish, whimsical yet formal tone.

Hour of darkness is the PS2 game, Afternoon of darkness is the remake for the PSP. It's basically the same game, but the PSP version has a seperate story mode for Etna
It's funny that some people here are dissing the Japanese and some people are dissing how the dub sounds in the English trailer comments. Also, apparently the english dub actress for Etna in this trailer didn't go on to dub the anime series. Now I listened to both versions of Etna. I think they're both good and they have the same energy. If you close your eyes listening to the US Etna, especially in the beginning, you could also envision her as a 10 year old boy in some kid anime dub.

I agree that I wish the anime was really more like the trailer. but nothing to complain it had its good points. The only easy thing they could of fix was the animation. At some points it got sloppy. But too bad still great and it totally got me in Disgaea!!! Yay! And they should really make an anime for the other ones. That would be so cool.
....I dunno how this really is relevant to my comment made as a joke, but as far as I can remember, Sephy summoned a meteor to inflict a major wound for the planet in order to take control of it. It took him a month to make that happen. Laharl has been confirmed to be able to insta-bust planets. For all I can see, it's Laharl > Sephiroth :--D

No, I mean the first game. The other games really need it. Really. I hope that they'll do more and that may that involve English dub. May we have Troy Baker, Vic Mignogna, Wendee Lee, Kate Higgins, Michelle Ruff and all others out there reprise their roles. BTW... Silly me, I was too tired to read by that time until you highlighted something there.
