I live in NYC a few blocks from the luxury hotels (and now shelters) where the new “migrants” are being housed. Ages ago when they started putting them in hotels - before it got so out of control that even our mayor is saying it’s going to destroy the city - my super (a black legal immigrants) told me that we had 29 assaults and muggings on our block in one month. 29. In one 500 strip on sidewalk. In the last month my neighborhood has seen multiple stabbings, multiple shootings, and multiple violent assaults… all committed by people who came here claiming to be fleeing violence, who have shown they have zero respect for our laws or our law enforcement officers, and who we are paying for housing more expensive than the average New Yorker could afford PLUS more spending money for food than impoverished New Yorkers get from food stamps. It’s not racist when the girl on the right talks about the problems. It’s not racist when I quote the actual, real world, on the ground experience, and it’s not racist when my black immigrant super and my black progressive mayor talk about how serious this problem is. That said… I can’t speak for whether or not it’s racist when Ava looks down at and verbally belittles the only two black guests simply for not 100% supporting her and choosing to have their own opinions.

Me and my family are from mexico. I have no issue with what she is saying. People who leave terrible situations have to realize that your new home isnt like your old one. So YOU have to adjust, not everyone else. You can keep ur traditions and culture but the way the country works and the social structure and rules will not change just to make you feel comfortable. And if they do change, then you just created a version of your old country that you just ran from.

Long Story, Im going to explain my memory from 1994 to the best of my ability ( Deeply religious Texas Town in the bible belt with population of less than 1,000) My Senior year (20 Students) of HS we had to read 3 books 1. Lord of the Flies 2. Brave New World 3. Ethan Frome ... If I remember the timeline correctly Brave New World had to be read by the time we got off Christmas break although we were given 6 weeks it had to be read for a test by the time we got back. I read it and maybe 2 others read it also but all those who didnt read it complained to parents about religious undertones even tho they didnt read it. Our Librarian unilaterally took it off the shelves. Her son was in my class. She was on the schoolboard. It was such a big deal that the test was given as a pop quiz Bonus point test to our next actual test. Everyone got extra points maybe not the whole 10pts but at least one. At the end of the year that teacher who also taught Spanish was fired and my first Quarter (yes Qtr) in College I had to read Brave New World for English 101. I dont agree with books being taken out of Libraries but I do believe sexual content and religious books should be put into a section that anyone under 18 yrs old should have to get approval from a parent.
