Transcript:
Four thousand years ago, a boy was forcibly subjected to occult ritual, merging with The Void, an alternate dimension. Returning as The Outsider, he was worshipped by ancient civilizations but only whale bone relics remain. Eventually, the region's abundant whale oil fueled technological advancement, The Empire of the Isles was founded and its new religion, Abbey of the Everyman, outlawed worship of The Outsider.
But the Outsider still took interest in eight mortals, granting them magical abilities. Three such individuals were linked to the Empress of the Isles, Jessamine Kaldwin:
Delilah Copperspoon, her vengeful childhood friend and head of the Brigmore Witch Coven.
Daud, the assassin that killed Jessamine and kidnapped her daughter Emily.
And Corvo Attano, falsely accused Royal Bodyguard and secretly Emily's father.
Plagued by guilt, Daud was spared by Corvo and discovered Delilah planned to possess Emily Kaldwin using a painting of the girl. Instead, Daud switched the portrait with a painting of The Void and Delilah was sucked into it, seemingly lost forever.
As Emily, you've ruled as reinstated Empress and trained with Corvo for fifteen years to protect yourself, but Delilah's back. She's taken your throne AND last name as Empress Delilah Kaldwin. That witch. Thankfully, the Outsider hands out magical powers like Halloween candy. So it’s time to grow up, become a supernatural assassin, and slaughter your way back into royalty.

One thing I love is that in this world you don't need to have the mark to be gifted by the Outsider. Piero is one of the people he's interested in and instead of getting powers, the Outsider visits him in his dreams and gives him visions that inspire him to make his inventions EDIT: In hindsight I don't think he's actually taken the outsider's interest so much as the void itself (based on his Tale From Dunwall)

fun fact: during dishonered1 In mission 04 of Dishonored, If you go to Emily after returning to the pub, you can interact with her and at some point she says "I don't like you eyes. Why are they so black? Stop looking at me.". If you look at the Outsider, you will notice that his eyes are almost pure black. That might be her first encounter with the Outsider.Also whenever she asks if she can come in your room, if you say no she'll say that she says ghost with black eyes in the tower.

Its also just indirectly implied through Every encounter with emily really. just judging from Curvos entire body language when seeing Emily its obvious there's more fatherly love than loyal bodyguard formality in there.

Given that he's her bodyguard as well, and she's pretty dang nice to him, they likely developed a father-daughter bond because they spent so much time together. Even if he wasn't her biological father, he would likely fill the same role.

Not really. Almost all of this is known from the first Dishonored, but you have to dig for lore and eggs in that game or else the full world won't be revealed to you, only Corvo's POV will.

It's has a pretty Lovecraftian undertone with the secret central continent and the implication that the whales/leviathans are in fact sentient beings with something scary going on. And the outsider just juggling around mortal destinies, of course.

One of the powers Daud was given was being able to share it with his underlings. The Outsider never gave them any powers, it was Daud empowering them. Granted, he doesn't seem to have any reservations about making everyone a super assassin...

3 people isn't a lot of people.... 8 people in the world at the same time? That is an extremely small amount (and for good reason because of what they can do). It makes sense he would give it to Emily, as he does to those deemed interesting. Look at her story and her past. Daud's Gang does not possess the Mark, he can just share his powers with them to an extent

Knife of dunwall: Daud finds out about Delilah, and has his first encounter. Brigmore Witches: Daud is hunting down Delilah. They're amazing, I'd say even better than the main campaign at parts.

It's less how many and more how he gives them out. In both games Corvo literally just falls asleep and wakes up with teleportation, because he's "interesting". And then people like Granny prove there's really no reason for who gets a mark.

Actually, I think granny was "interesting" as well. The Outsider's only motivations seem to be boredom (in the first game), and mild discomfort (in the second game).

Alexander Straight Maybe as a person, but she had no effect on the broader situation. The most she did was take Slackjaw, but in the end it was still Corvo, not her, who decided how that ended. So either the Outsider gifts power to random people as well as to key players in events, or he predicted that giving Granny powers too would lead her to encounter Corvo, and wanted to see what happened.

No, as far as we know, Dishonoured takes place in an entirely different universe from ours. It is possible that it is set in a post-apocalyptic future where the ritual that created the outsider also changed the continents, and ushered in a new dark age; but there is no real evidence for that.

There are 2 others, Tales of Dunwall (first game's short videos) had one boy given power by the outsider to drive away his bullies. The kid killed them with a swarm of rats but also died from one rat's bite. The Outsider himself mentioned giving power to another man, who was immediately driven mad by this encounter and killed himself. It seems witchcraft is another way to acquire power if that's how Granny Rags and Delilah got them.

Actually, it is possible Daud outright killed Delilah in the void. The plot of the second game would still work if Daud killed her, due to the way the comes back. That said, everyone else, who could have been spared in the first game seems to have been spared. Delilah is not the only recurring character from the first game, or even the only recurring character from the knife of dunwall... As for explaining how Delilah got out, that would be spoilers...

I kinda hate how so many of the things left unconfirmed in Dishonored were just outright stated in 2. Sure it was kinda obvious Corvo was her father, and the heart was Jesamines, but what was the point of leaving it uncertain if you're just gonna outright say it first thing next game.

It's fine to leave those mysteries unconfirmed in a standalone game, but if the lore around the Outsider becomes an integral part of the plot (rather than an excuse for cool gameplay mechanics), it makes sense to explain everyone's connection to it.

Because it was SUPER obvious? I really don't understand why people are mad. The heart had the same voice actress as Jesamine and some of her statements were pretty incriminating, and Emily literally has a drawing that says "DADDY" and is of Corvo. It's not hard to figure it out. It's really annoying that for people to accept things they have to explicitly be told rather than just read between the lines.

Brandon R I'm not saying it wasn't obvious. I'm saying that it was left open for a reason. Dishonored 1 went to a lot of effort to not outright state most of the backstory. You had to go out and actually find all that stuff, think, use your head! And even then there was rarely 100% proof. It was fun to piece together what was and wasn't true. Then 2 comes along and bam! No mystery! My problem isn't that I need explicit confirmation to accept something. It's that I don't want everything about the backstory shouted at me 10 times in the damn introduction. And with the exception of Emily's drawing, which only gets drawn in a low chaos playthrough, most of the "proof" that Corvo was her father was mass suspicion at best. In a high chaos playthrough you could think either way.

Just easier i guess, it's a lot easier to understand why Emily is so bent on saving corvo/vice -versa if they are family, especially if people hadn't played the first one, i think people would have gotten more frustrated if it wasnt out rightley said since there was a decent amount suggesting that they were related

More than that, there are a few notes and recordings throughout the later levels of the game that more or less confirm it, one letter from the Empress to Corvo in particular.

Even more than that, Emily drew a picture of Corvo in the game. Based on your chaos level, it was different; at low chaos, it is Corvo's face, with "DADDY" written on top. AND, in a gameplay trailer for Dishonored 2, Emily says "Royal Protector and father. I should have passed a law against that combination of titles years ago." Plus, if that wasn't definitive enough for you, Harvey Smith has confirmed it multiple times now.

It can also be assumed based off of the first game. Emily's father is never revealed and Jesamine is never revealed to be married. And in the high chaos ending, Pendleton tells Corvo that every assumed he was the father

Daud was confirmed to still be alive in Dishonored 2 time era but not even Delilah was able to locate where he is, read about it on the Dishonored wiki "Delilah expresses that she feels and knows that Daud is still alive somewhere, when talking idly in the last mission while painting. Also, the Heart remarks after being possessed by Delilah's spirit, that: "There are marks on our flesh. Made by the Knife of Dunwall. Cursed Daud, who hides in the world and breathes still."

Spencer West Found the actual quote. When pointing at Megan foster it says "A man haunts her dreams. Like a father to her. A man with scar. He hides himself, even from me." Kinda implies he's alive but very hidden. Love the idea of Daud going to the void though.

At the moment its not worth buying anyway, at least not on PC. The port could have been a lot better, unless you have faith in your rig, wait for updates. If you are on console, knock yourself out.

Low Chaos overall, you can hear an Overseer holding up Campbell's branding as a cautionary tale, the tie-in novel _The Corroded Man_ establishes that Waverly Boyle was handed over to her stalker, and I think Word of Harvey Smith says that Daud was spared and that Corvo killed at least one of his targets. (My money is on the Pendleton Brothers, Burrows, and Havelock being killed, but no others)

Analcrowbar The KOD DLC takes place before Corvo confronts Daud. It is implied, but never outright stated, that he survived in one of the endings to the second game. He would be pretty old by then though, about fifty or sixty five years old, depending o exactly how old he was in the first game.

Meh, I don't like Dishonored 2 Outsider. Last game he seemed like some crazy eldritch abomination taking human form so as to not destroy my mind and entertains himself by giving people super powers. Now he just seems like an excitable teenager that I felt like was always on the verge of saying "Isn't this cool!?!?!" when talking to you about you or other people's powers.

Dishonored has been showered in praise for many things, but it's central plotlines are not quite so favorable. Keep in mind that D1's central plot was basically "Lion King + Generic Framing story + Magic"
