This has to be the single most underrated song from the entire 90's. Should have been an Anthem-level smash-hit. Dishwalla got overlooked amidst the sea of amazing talent that we had. They were (and still are) an amazing, talented bunch. If you're here listening to this song, you're among the lucky ones.
Absolutely agree. JR is one of if not the most incredible singers I've ever heard. I highly recommend his more recent stuff. He has done remakes of Until I Wake Up and this song, as well as many others that are all fantastic, and his original stuff is just as amazing.
I must agree there's two things he talked about Jesus which a lot of songs never got paid for that unless it was demeaning towards Jesus which is sad glorifying God 2 but yes we had a ton of great talent rock rap folk everything was great even the mainstream garbage was ok it's like we robbed the next generations talent by how much good music we actually had I'm very blessed ,my son's actually listen to alot we grew up listening to and he feels the same way with they got robbed lol

I listened to this album on repeat in high school when it came out. Can't believe I'm 35 now listening to it. Can still remember what it was like listening to it when I was 16. So nostalgic! Loved it. Also had a huge crush on J.R . Such a beautiful voice💖
J.R. has the most beautiful, soul-baring, green eyes... OH.MY.GOD. His voice is up with THE BEST. His lyrics are extremely deep. His guitar abilities, just EVERYTHING, is amazing. Total package. Then & now... amazing artist!! ❤️❤️❤️
That dude has a solid voice. There are other vocalists that are great but are with the wrong band. I always felt like this guy had the right band for his voice. Although he could probably fit into several genres.

This song and album brings back so many amazing memories of being a carefree and happy teenager. I was lucky enough to see these guys summer of ‘97 and they were amazing!! Such a fantastic band.

I found this CD in my dad’s closet when I was in 5th grade and loved this song so much. I’m 19 now and this song is still so good, not just because it’s nostalgic. Such a banger. I’m proud of my 10 year old self for once
being a musician, one of the most interesting things about this great masterpiece is the sequence D# then D. What a great feeling throughout this part right before that strong chorus. Thanks Mr. Richards and all your former mates for breaking the mold at that time.
Couple 2 or 3 years ago JR came to a little town in Bradley Illinois. Had some health issues going on but I pushed through walking pneumonia I went to this show. First concert I ever went to completely sober. (Antibiotics, had to kick it,almost didn't make the show) wanted the meet and greet but wasn't sure I would be able to do it. This was a year before The Covid. I got well enough to attend the show. Walk into the venue and the 1st person we/I run into is JR. The love of my life has to go to the bathroom. Now it's me and JR and I am starstruck. Me a d the dude with the voice. JR if you ever get the chance to read this... thank you for making that night a night that I will never forget. We chatted,you signed stuff from merch( and some things from my collection) we chatted some more. You made me feel like we knew each other for a long time. Still a fan and will forever love you and your music.Thank you for that night. Lovepeace

J.R., saw Dishwalla at the Whiskey A Go Go back in the day. You had the smoldering looks, charisma and talent of Jim Morrison IMHO. Saw The Doors as a young girl at the Hollywood Bowl, never forgot it. Same thing when I saw you. Was blown away and been a fan ever since.

He was SO underrated...So sexy,extremely talented(his voice blows me away),his disposition,amazing creativity,the lyrics he wrote were awesome,he's a very sweet guy...I could go on & on. I was 9 when this song came out & I've loved it ever since...:)
Timeless classic for those in the know. I won the Pet Your Friends cd by being the ninth caller and drove about an hour out of the way to go pick it up. Glad I did for sure
I saw Dishwalla live more than 20 times during the late 90's- early 00's. What a great time. An absolutely amazing live performance band. I saw them in Chicago, in Vegas, in Santa Barbara along the Southern California coast. I saw Gary Wright do My Love is Alive with them!
From then til now (2022), I still say it's the best song on the album and didn't receive the respect nor radio airplay it deserved. I hope all from the band are still well 👍
Spectacular, J.R. Richards amazing and memorizing. Never heard this song Charlie Brown's Parents, until Christmas day today 12/23/19 @ 9:55am. I have loved Dishwalla since first time I heard : Counting blue cars. I learning left hand on my violin or viola this song so I can play it eventually. Yes it's made for me left handed and electric left handed guitar. Thanks for this gift great song. Happy Holidays.

Definitely one of my favorite songs from the 90's. Underrated song, band, and vocalist. I wish the whole song was included in the video, but still a kick ass song.
I bought that fantastic CD from columbia house along with Republica, Sponge, 54-40, Third Eye Blind, and some others. What a great time for music! The 90's were the best! His voice is awesome, and they were really underrated! Still enjoying their music! :)

Man - Dishwalla influenced so much of what I consider to be great tone, musicality in rock'n'roll, and, well....lest I forget just how awesome it was spinning this disc up in my walkman on the bus in the mornings!! Hitting 36 in a couple of months, songs and sounds like this take me back to a simpler time, a better time... LOVE IT! Thanks guys!

@@JRRichardsOfficial neat! thanks for the reply! i loved this album. i am a drummer, and i hung around with 2 other drummers back in the day, and we all appreciated this song as one of the coolest for the fill. your voice is majestic, too. when my mom died, i couldn't help but listen to counting blue cars, which she discovered only about a year before and loved. that is one really tough song. majestic, inspiring, sad. hell, even thinking about it now, tears come to my eyes. you have inspired a generation, sir.
Just wanted to say that I love hearing them today just as much as I did back in the 90's. My daughter, who is a mom herself now, grew up with Dishwalla and other bands from that era, is introducing Dishwalla to her seven year daughter! Keeping them alive through the generations!
I still have a autograph that you signed in 2000 at buzz bake sale in West Palm Beach, FL. Will never lose it JR Love you too much!! It was the first concert I took my wife of 20 years to. Thank you soooooo much JR!! Plus the Doem CD you handed me, not a single mark on the sleeve or CD and never will be.

Was just talking about your show at Peabody's in Cleveland in 1996. You were mesmerizing to watch, just like Mercy Baron said below. One of the best concerts of the 90's for me - such a great band with a talented lead singer. Good memories! I still play your cd in the car, as loud as is safe for my aging ears! ;)
OMG! I still love this song as much today as I did back when the album first dropped! It somehow ends up on ALL of my playlists! Smokin' hot singer! Great voice!
