I ask myself the same thing! And then I also think it's because she was more than happy to rewrite and attempt to eradicate the original simply because she hated it so much.

I expect her agent saw a prestigious role and just… got it for her. Often actors are just told “hey you’re gonna be in x” and unless they really don’t want to they’re just like “oh okay.”

Why wouldn't anyone pick a super prominent acting role from the biggest film company in the world... Even if you don't like the character or story, you're an actor. You aren't writing or directing the film, just play your part and make enough to retire for the rest of your life. Rachel is just young and doesn't have good PR, it's just a mistake on her part for expressing a bad opinion that puts shade on the film.

They would have to rewrite and reshoot the entire movie. The movie is already way over budget because of it being pushed back a year and the reshoots. There's no way they are going to do that. I think they would scrap the entire project before they reshoot the entire movie. They can write off the movie for tax purposes.

They're just trying to capitalize on the "scandal", but, like you said, they're better off taking the loss and move on to something else... There's no way this will breakeven let alone make a profit.

I believe they were thinking about scrapping the movie, but some members of the board/investors went against the decision.

People will watch it to give it negative reviews on it. But it just seams like a waste of resources time and efforts tbh

Disney did listen to the fans’ outrage online and changed the dwarves (worsening it but they still did hear), going as far to postpone the movie for a year - which is an half disaster - so Zegler being replaced is not that far off a thing….especially since not doing it could be even worse financially, and money is what not just Disney but the whole of Hollywood really listens to.

Who, really, in their right mind would complain against a role that benefits their community? It is as simple as having a real debate and backing up their arguments. Not to mention it is simply ridiculous at this point, the fairy tale literally included dwarves, in the sense of, the magical beings, folklore, why should those characters be an insult to little people? By all means, if you see an opportunity to bring attention into some of the problems the community is dealing with, or even, explore the origins of the folk tale and its relation to the community if there is to be one, sure, do it. But to take it to discrimination accusations? What's next, albino's banning vampires from TV? it is time we stop antagonizing ourselves and each other this radically. One can be mistaken on an incial idea, or not even mistaken but at the beginning of a whole thought process. It is not that what the actor said should be completely discredited, but it wasn't either to be taken as final. You can explore and consider the idea more carefully to see where it really takes you, and I'm sure, it wouldn't take you to the "magical/folk dwarves in a children movie should be banned because they are insulting".

Clickbait means a creator used a subject they knew would cause interest and draw people in, and then go off about other things. That is what they did here.
