I think the Sherman brothers related that they were going to give the copyrights to a children's' hospital or some other such donation, but Walt talked them out of it because he knew it would be a hit and would, to quote, "put you're kids through collage". So I do believe it is copyrighted but as to who owns it, Disney, the Sherman Bros, or some charity is up in the air.
Yeah, initially I had seen articles commenting on how it was free of copyright, but the more I dug into that claim, the more I came across reports that the Sherman's had just reupped their copyright on the song, so I'm more inclined to believe the latter as it makes more sense, but never got definitive answers on it
I've always wondered why Disney didn't copy Disneyland's ride facade when they built It's A Small World at the Magic Kingdom. Not to mention that it's located off to the side next to a restaurant...🤔
I think the ride is cute. When my husband and I went on it in Disneyland. We meet a woman who had an autistic son who loved the ride and this kid who normally doesn't like strangers or touching hugged me. I think it's because he might of sensed I was like him (only Aspergers).
I think you still hear the classic song during holiday time, it's just mixed with Jingle Bells! (From what I remember. Might also be different in other parks) Awesome video, great to see you making them again!
Which raises a question: Does Disney still test their rides on New York until they put it on California to this day or they are testing their rides in their park?
Well the World's Fair has obviously been closed for many years now, so New York is pretty much off the radar for Disney Parks, and the ride testing process is likely much more streamlined now, so I would imagine much of it takes place at the Imagineer facility in Glendale, CA
The last time I went Disneyland was in January 2010; my cousin was curious to check out Small World so we rode it together. The ride was still in Christmas mode at that time. Let me tell you, it looked more fantastic with all the X-mas decorations! Personally I don't mind the Disney and Pixar characters appearing on the ride, the designs look adorable!
I like that they based the designs on the Mary Blair style, makes em look like part of the ride, not like some cheap addition. And that's awesome! I was at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party back in 2013 in Florida, but out there they don't decorate Small World, so I still haven't seen it. One day!
A very good review Joe :). I admit I am not a fan of the song, most likely because it is an earworm. However, learning about the history of the ride and the song itself was very interesting and informative as your videos usually are. Keep up the good work. I hope life is going well for you and I look forward to your next review.
The song is certainly divisive but I'll be honest, I actually started to appreciate it more after doing this video and learning a bit about it. Weird how that works haha
it's my fav ride next to Pirates of the Caribbean that is would be funny and drive every on in the world if they made it's a Small World for the Olympics.
