I think the point of the ocean story is that the fish isn’t trying to find the literal ocean, since they already live in it. It’s trying to fulfill the idea of what it thinks the ocean SHOULD be. And that’s what Joe is doing. He already a jazz player since he performs with Dorothea Williams, but in his mind he imagines it being some incredible life where he travels, has huge audiences, and makes a ton of money. So now he realizes that life and dreams are what you make of them.

I feel like that this movie hit so many people ESPECIALLY young adults stuck on how to figure out their purpose in life. This movie really opened my eyes on appreciating everything and everyone ! This pandemic doesn’t make it any better. It makes u feel stuck. Like ur wasting ur life . Or not doing enough. This movie really helped me understand more that accomplishments doesn’t always revolve on successful career or knowing what ur purpose is. Family, friends , goals like waking up to see another day.
@citriz

Yeah, I've been having that feeling of "I'm wasting my life" and the pandemic doesn't really help, keeping me from being able to do much of anything. But by restricting my day-to-day life to the confines of my house or the places I go to walk, I started appreciating the little things more. If I can enjoy life, I'm not wasting it.

@Wawagirl17
@Wawagirl17 3 года назад
@@lizzzardv.1929 But I feel like that's one of the main points of the film, that you can still enjoy life even if you aren't at your "dream career," even if your day job is kinda mundane and crappy and you only do it to pay the bills, even if you don't have a strong passion for it, just enjoying good food, good relationships, a walk through nature, are things that make living worth it. All the ideas of "you must find your passion and follow your dreams" isn't realistic in a world where you sometimes just need to do what's available to earn money, but life is still beautiful for the in-between small moments.

The moral that I got out of this movie, "The Point & Purpose of Life IS Living." Joe spent his whole time chasing his purpose & never got to live. Then, Jerry tells him that humans are silly for having this concept of a purpose. Then you got 22's comment on skywatching/walking, and Joe says that's not a purpose that's just living, but that's what got 22's spark. So, it's really hitting at the point that we shouldn't get too caught up in why we're here & just enjoy the fact that we are here. Great movie, easily a top 10
@AmericanIlluminati

It was an awesome movie!! So glad you all reacted to it! Also really nerded out when I found Wes Studi was in this movie!! That guy is awesome! I love how they highlighted the moment when you become obsessed with something it could hurt you spiritually. And how when you appreciate what you have around you. Even just breathing. Practice appreciating all around you and then you can help others see what you see.

I think of the lost souls as a part of being in the zone but when you become so obsessed with that one thing you become untouched with life and passion turns unto obsessions thats why i think joe was a lost soul before the movie

I just finished watching this and immediately came here to see y’all react. This movie...man I don’t know how to describe it. I’m someone that’s felt...just horrible for the last five years. Almost like I was dead. Just so anxious, and sad, and not worth it. I can’t exactly explain what it was about Soul but I think this is the first time in a long time that I’m smiling and meaning it. I feel like I’m taking my first breath of air after years of being underwater. I can’t stop smiling and feeling and just living right now. Thanks for the reaction as always yall. :)

"Soul" really spoke to me on a very, very personal and spiritual level. I myself is a struggling musician, it was always been a dream of mine, to perform in front of an audience, to please and make people happy. Because I think music is something that brings us together. I really feel like I was in Joe's shoes, because I didn't wanna have a life that amounted to nothing. I don't want to be "regular" I refuse to live a life doing something I am not happy with. But then, there are times when I wasn't satisfied with the things I wanted. You come to enjoy them for a bit but when you're done... that's it. "Soul" really changed my view of life.

this movie hit me so hard.. I’m turning 21 in 10 days and I’m about to attend university soon but I still feel like I haven’t really found my purpose in life and still don’t know what I want to do with my life If I’m real honest with yall. I’m living with the constant fear that I might never find it and am under constant pressure knowing I only have one life to live and that it’s limited. I already regret so many things I did and didn’t do in my life so far and can only really focus on that- all the missed opportunities, all the bad decisions I made etc I thought about ending my life for a few times before over the years because I just feel so overwhelmed with all the expectations and honestly I feel like everything‘s just too much sometimes for me to handle.. like, I’m just not ready for life yet and never will be.. especially when you see all the success around you and people being so much more mature and grown than you are even tho they’re at the same stage of life than I am.. So this movie spoke directly to me in many ways

I love the ocean story. It's similar to the Buddhism's saying "Live for the moment", but it's kinda different. The ocean story is about what you've always been chasing for, or something you've always wanted may not be something that makes you happy. You thought you'd be happy or feel better than now when you can what you want. But what you don't understand is what you have right now is already making yourself happy, you just didn't realize it. It's the part where you realize that even if you don't have it, you don't need to wait for it to be truly happy. Just like Joe story, he thought being on stage with a huge crowd of audiences and be famous would make himself happier, but after the show, he said he didn't feel particularly good or anything. That's what Ms William was trying to say, Joe was already a Jazz player and no matter where he goes, he's already happy enough to be able to play Jazz. Being on stage is just something extra. It's easy to say than do. It's truly hard to actually appreciate the present when you don't know how it feels to get what you want. It may not work for anyone, because i'm sure chasing your dream to be the champion on any sports and be on the podium must feel great. But try to appreciate what you already have in life, because there are a lot of good things in life. All it takes is changing your perspective. Sorry for the long comments and bad english. Here's a foreign potato🥔.
