Agreed. It's not the most atrocious thing I've seen by any means, but the teal definitely looks better. I actually really liked the blue dress that she wore with the bow on the carriage ride or whatever.
The funny part is that pink and red are basically the same color so they go together really well. Valentine’s Day is all pink and red and we love it. I do like the contrast pink and blue have tho

Everyone wants to say "but color theory-" but all color theory says is that certain colors *contrast* more than others. I don't blame anyone for thinking contrasting colors clash. I don't blame anyone for thinking colors that are too similar clash. It really comes down to value, saturation, and personal taste. I know this is only loosely related to what you said, so I suppose I should apologize for my tangent lol.
It's color theory. Red and Blue are the opposite meaning complementary colors. So of course Teal and Firetruck red would work. And it looks great I must agree!!
They could have made her dress two separate colours like Snow White with the bodice purple and skirt green if they really wanted to distinguish Ariel from Aurora
That that I would not mind, personally I hate Aurora in the pink dress it does not suit her whatsoever. And yes Cinderella should be in silver or maybe a very pale almost silvery blue, it would be so much better than the actual blue they put her in
If they REALLY want to have Cinderella wearing blue, they could give her a light, almost white, pearly blue to keep it blue but also give it a silvery feel to give a nod to her true dress color.
The thing is, I have never met a child mix up princesses. I think it is more for the adults so they can remember which one is which and not get their child to hate them because they mixed them up.

Tbh Pocahontas is super problematic and should not have her tragic, short life that ended at 21 years old, turned into an amazing happy Disney movie. They have kids thinking that she had the best life. She was KIDNAPPED, her father wouldn't trade for her safe return, so essentially saying he didn't care if she loved or died, got her named changed against her will. Had to convert, also against her will, and then was married off and died practically still a child.
Merida was a brand new character when this change was implemented. When she was "crowned" after her film's theatrical run, Disney actually started out putting her in the light blue dress that her mom picked out, but people freaked out, so Disney put Merida in the dark green dress and kept it that way. I wish consumers had expressed that outrage when the others were done so dirty... But y'know how it is. Media hype fuels selective outrage. (Seriously, compare these characters to their design model sheets or film stills. A lot of people are shocked at the contrast.)
@@emro164 Maybe the color settings on our respective screens are slightly different because in the movie, Merida's dress is definitely emerald but in this specific photo, this is an exceptionally blue-tinted shade of green. Lol

That’s three variations of red heads you can have a red head that leans more towards the strawberry blonde. Then you have those that lean more towards a reddish brown and finally there are those that that are right in the middle.

I've always thought they could've just combined Aurora's blue and pink dress into a dress that ACTUALLY has blue and pink in it, or just make it lavender and the problem would be solved.
As a child, I loved my doll of Jasmine dressed in red. Sadly, whenever I played with her, the other kids would make her be “Jasmine’s twin” and never Jasmine herself. Even though the doll was based on an outfit that Jasmine actually wore, kids did not associate that look with Jasmine.

Well, in the film, she only wore the red outfit while she was imprisoned under Jafar and treated as her servant, so it makes sense that kids would rather have Jasmine in the teal outfit she seemed to prefer herself, and which she wore most of the film as well as the TV series.
fr, older posters were easier, arial would be in her pink dress, even though sleeping beauty was in pink n i confused them (but i was lik 1 and 2 years old) but then they changed her dress and i confused arial for jasmine cause im colorblind and their dresses and hair were too similar, Disney just keeps making oopsies and dont admit it
I feel like they might’ve made her dress blue instead of silver to prevent her standing out as the only one without a colorful dress! And also because it could easily look a bit like a wedding dress with it being close to white.

If I was a kid and didn’t know who was who, I’d confuse them! I’m a ginger myself, but so many people say “red-head/red-hair” anymore that I’d think red red and not ginger red. Not to mention the fact that to a little kid, Ariel’s dress really just is green and doesn’t seem teal at all// they don’t know what teal is!
It would be beautiful but it wouldn't translate well in all mediums. In some, it would just be grey. Disney's marketing strategy is to bombard us with the signature colors and shapes

I'm trying to understand what's wrong with a wedding dress. The first stuffed animal I ever bought was from build a bear and my 4 yr old arse picked a wedding dress to put her in because I thought it was the prettiest. My favorite dress was also Cinderellas dress followed by Auroras blue dress and I was always pissed as a child that there wasn't anything of it.
Deadass I remember sitting down to watch Sleeping Beauty for the first time as a kid, after spending ages playing with an Aurora doll in a pink dress, and being silently disappointed that she barely wore pink in the movie.

Funny thing how my grand daughter never had any confusion recognizing her princess dolls. She knew them by looking at their faces. She must have inherited my habit as a little girl. Whenever I got a new doll, off came the dress and it was put in the little suitcase I had where all my doll's clothes were stored. I didn't care who wore which dress and neither did my granddaughter with her dolls. Her collection of dolls, many shapes and sizes, was like a sorority where everyone where they all traded/shared clothes, hair ribbons, etc.
Dude, remember the beige peasant dress Aurora/ Rose wore in the early part of the movie? That was so pretty. It's probably too moody or downplayed for merchandising, but I still prefer it to her official princess dresses. Also, it doesn't matter what's going on with the other princesses, Jasmine is always going to stand out cause she's the only one in trousers.

i have heard that cinderella is that shade of blue bc when disney started putting out dresses for kids to wear they didnt want little girls dressing up in silvery/white dresses that looked like a wedding gown. i think the blue is too iconic now even if its retconned!
Back then, Disneyland did have Aurora in her blue gown in the parks for meet and greets. They had her in the Blue gown for fall and winter and her in her pink gown spring and summer

My daughter loves Jasmine and chose her updated wedding gown from the 2019 live action Aladdin movie for her disney trip princess makeover. To me, it looked beautiful, and only the Disney cast members knew she was Jasmine and identified the dress!
because Ariel spends so much time on screen with a teal tail, they probably wanted to keep the color palate consistent in merchandise to keep her as recognizable as possible
The answer is actually very simple. There was a lot of controversy for Ariel's pink dress for the simple fact that no one understood why her dress was pink. It clashed with her hair. It was a huge fashion faux pas that people started to criticize in the mid to late 90s. I even remember distinctively there being arguments over how ugly her pink dress was; no one was buying ariel's pink dress. So they changed it to the colour of her tail, which matched her actual colour scheme that was present through the whole movie. They made Aurora's dress pink, because Cinderella's was already blue (because silver looked too much like a wedding gown), Cinderella was OP. Cinderella was what brought Disney into its Golden Era, so Cindy was untouchable. You know who was also OP? Ariel. Ariel marked the Disney Renaissance, but they did her dirty by giving her such a gaudy dress that clashed with her hair (very Valentine's, not at all Mermaid), that they finally rectified that later on with the teal dress. The answer is simple: They changed the dress cause the pink one was awful and didn't actually complimented her character.

@@NightRainPandaYES! She WAS borrowing someone else's dress. This was the outfit that they clothed her in when Eric found her, presumably shipwrecked, without a voice. Back when they cared enough about the plot to put the character in clothes that didn't suit them because it would make sense in terms of the story. (I still hate Ariel. She was a seldish brat.)
They changed Cinderella's dress to blue because the silver color made the costumes for little girls look like wedding dresses which made them change Aurora's blue dress to the pink one that she wore (and also a homage to the fact that Flora and Merryweather constantly fight over which color they like best on her), which prompted them to change Ariel's dress to the teal one which pays homage to her heritage as a mermaid as it mimics the colors of her tail and seashell bra. Disney had actually released a statement explaining why they made the multiple changes after people questioned Ariel's dress change, with the biggest reason being that they wanted to make them all stand out and not cause confusion between them by ensuring that they aren't wearing the same colors/outfits; thus having to create unique outfits that either aren't in the movie or isn't exactly the same as the one in the movie.
I love Ariel's pink dress with her red hair SOOO much. You have no idea how upset I was about this. I used to be obsessed with how Ariel looked in her pink dress with her red hair and ugh. I had so many toys of her in that dress.

@@gloria.R.7286 so is the pink dress in the movie. All the dresses are plain and don't have much detail because it's easier to animate. The Princess line dresses all have detail added to them and I think her town dress could look stunning with a few more details
@@namtellectjoonal7230 I agree they could add more details, but the dress still lands way more limp than the pink one, which, although not the most extravagant dress, still is considerably more dressy with the puffed sleeves, off the shoulder neckline, draped fabric on the skirt, and the sheer puffiness of the skirt. I think the town dress has a lovely maiden energy to it, but the pink dress is a lot elegant and more "ballroom" like. It's also more of the "big reveal" moment when eric sees her in the film, whereas the town dress is just more casual. I rly struggle tbh to see how that dress could work for marketing, it's just too limp and casual.
Teal makes sense, it is the colour of her fishtail. I have zero mental association between Ariel and pink. Pink dress with red hair is a bad combo anyway.

I actually know why they changed Ariel!!! Ok so the actual reason they changed Ariel’s dress from pink to teal! The one thing you didn’t bring up is the colors clashed so much. Red and pink don’t look super well together but green and red are complementary colors. Also her mermaid form was a lot more kids. So I decided to make her dress look more like her tail. Adding also the purple shell! At the time they didn’t have a green princess so they just decided to switch it. I’m not exactly sure about Cinderella but from what I remember (watched a very long video essay on the history of Disney princess fashion because…..I was bored lol) they changed it because they didn’t want it to look like a wedding dress :)
I understand that pink doesn’t always look good on redheads, but I disagree with the sentiment that red and pink don’t look good together at all? They are different shades of the same color. As white to red and you get pink.

Well, Aurora and Ariel are different species! But seriously, they have different hair color, hair shape, different dress shapes and different shades of pink, even a color blind person could tell them apart!
The biggest reason is because selling silver princess dresses to little girls looks like wedding gowns. They switched Cinderella to blue to keep it close, and had Aurora pink so there was more variety. Also worth noting that in the film, the story book closes on Aurora and Phillip dancing in the clouds when the dress flashes pink.

Cinderellas gown was not white except for wedding. Its actually a pale blue. Rewatch the film. Her gown is pale blue and her puffs are extremely pale blue but not white. Compare the colour to her white apron and whites of her pink dress then to her blue pajamas.😅 This promo pics just darkened her blues and up the saturation but the colour is still blue.

I was also obsessed with the little mermaid movie when I was a child. And I remember when her merch dress was pink. But I LOVE the teal dress on Ariel. It is one of my fave colors of all time and looks the best with her hair of any color they could have her in imho.
Fun fact, before the Disney Princess line was launched in 2000s, these characters were rarely marketed at the same time and the merchandise creators had no qualms about showing them in alternative dresses. There a ton of merch featuring Belle in blue and other colors. Mattel had a line of Disney fashion dolls with gowns that would change into their peasant dresses, and vice-versa. Mulan wore everything. She had her green training uniform, the matchmaker dress, etc. Each new-to-the-time release had outfit packs avaiable. The first Sleeping Beauty VHS featured Aurora in blue, but the VHS following the launch of the franchise had her in pink. Also, these characters were rarely referred to as princesses until the 2000s. For instance, the dolls' boxes might say "Princess Collection" but the doll herself would just be "Belle" or "Snow White" on the front. After this, Mattel put "Princess" 2-3 times on the front and back, and placed the Disney Princess label on all sides of rhe box. Basically, the Princess franchise was launched and Disney decided the characters needed to have designated colors, instead of using their various outfits to display the versatility and individual situations of each character. They also cookie-cuttered the designs. Like at least Ariel wore teal in the theme parks' merchandise for a long time before this decision was made, and the dress matched the actual color of her tail... I'm more concerned about her flattened bangs, high-maintenance hair style, and botox-looking face!! Disney easily did these characters worse than any of their acquired properties..
Yeah! That pink dress was absolutely beautiful! I know it's a little 80s but it's like 80s in a way where it could be almost Edwardian sleeve puffs. I had no idea that they made the dress teal to match her hair tho!
Also, this may not be roght, but our teacher always said, if things were too bland. Like Ariel having red hair with pink dress, with light (pink reminding) skintone is just can be a LOT.
The pink dress is supposed to signify that she is uncomfortable and doesn't feel like she belongs aka a "fish out of water". She is in her green dress because that is the one that goes with her skin and hair color and looks better on her aka signifying she feels me comfortable.
"Her green dress"? She doesn't have a green dress in the film and she never acted uncomfortable in the pink dress. She seemed extremely pleased with her appearance while wearing pink. She gives Eric a big smile and even preens in a mirror while wearing pink, which she wears in two different outfits in the film, versus Aurora only wearing pink in a few scenes. I get the idea of her wearing green because it looks like her tail but man I wish they'd gone with the periwinkle of her shells and the sparkly dress in the end of the film instead :(
@psychotophatcat I meant her green dress as in the green dress she is wearing not meaning it was in the movie. Also I am not meaning character wise uncomfortable and fish out of water but design wise. When you look at that dress it doesn't look quite right with her hair color and it washes her out. I am in the same opinion that I wish they did the ending dress that her dad gave her but I still understand why and agree with not putting her in the pink dress. (I also support Aurora in blue)
Tbh, I think the pink dress is more iconic for Aurora, but that could solely be merchandising. I think it would be awesome if it was a colour shift fabric that, when wet or something, changed from pink to blue
the original and very first Disney Sleeping Beauty movie poster from 1959 pictured Aurora in a pink dress. Most members of the original audience went into the movie seeing her as a pink-dressed princess. To this day the covers still honor the original.
I think it's because of the red Ariel's hair, a pink dress It would stand out a lot and make the design look monotonous, and it's a wedding dress. That thing you said in your other video about Ariel's purple dress, Anastasia have a purple dress and Rapunzel has one too so I think the dress color that should change is Jasmine's because living in the desert I think that an orange would look better, both because of the culture and because it would highlight her skin and hair more.
Honestly, I saw the pink void way before seeing the Sleeping Beauty, and when I saw the movie I was shocked how little the pink dress is on screen. You know how your friend suddenly has a very drastic haircut that makes them almost unrecognizable? That's how my tiny child brain felt when I saw Aurora in a blue dress.
The periwinkle version of auroras was always my favorite and I always preferred it. As a little kid I was always a purple girl and liked it more than the color pink so even as a kid I remember telling my older brothers “why is the dress pink it’s better in blue”😭😂
It's less about differentiating their colors from each other. It's because Ariel's overall palette blended in together too much (pink dress and red hair) which didn't make her design distinct enough. PLUS they went with the teal to replicate her iconic mermaid colors. You can also see the purple shells as little accents. Then they simply lightened them up (from green and purple to teal and lavender) to make the palette flow better as a dress.
Honestly i speak for the most people when i say that i don’t like her pink dress. Red and pink do not usually go well. Its actually so good that they gave her a whole separate gorgeous dress that is so iconic (i used to think was the original).
- jasmine’s dress doesn’t get mixed up with ariel because they’re different races, have different hair, and they’re both very distinctly different styles of a dress + if you ever see a jasmine doll irl, it’s usually bluer. - cinderella’s dress is blue because disney needs to sell little princess outfits and disney can’t sell silverish white dresses, it would look like a wedding dress - ariel’s dress isn’t pink because the teal one calls back to her mermaid tail better
the point is she didn’t suit it, at that moment in the story she doesn’t fit in anywhere (she doesn’t belong under the sea and she’s literally a fish out of water) so the dress was designed to clash with her hair, is ill-fitting and is also a mash-up of other princesses’ styles and is borrowed from another character, by the time we see the blue dress with the black corset it looks better as she feels like she fits in more but still it doesn’t really fit right as she’s not 100% comfortable with her choices then she has the sparkly dress which is a mix of human and mermaid since she’s made her choice and is finally happy and the wedding dress which is styled like human fashions (apparently it’s based on Princess Diana’s dress) and it fits perfectly unlike the two previous dresses as she’s happy as a human and has reconciled with her family
I always thought Ariel was in her pink. I’ve never seen a blue/teal dress on Ariel Anyway, another thing they could’ve done was put Ariel in a green dress that matched her mermaid scales
tbh I'm not sure if the pink dress is my favorite and I love Ariel, don't get me wrong, but that was her fish out of water dress. I do much prefer the made-up teal dress, similar in color to her tail and is very ocean colored. Or one could have gone with the dress she wore in the Kiss the Girl scene, the blue and black one. They'd probably have to change it later because with Anna, they'd be wearing very similar dresses (or if it was something from the very beginning for the Disney Princesses lineup, Anna would have just been given a different color pallet). Aurora would then for whatever reason be the only other princess in this lineup to have a pink dress (something I'm just now realizing and it actually bothering me??? only two at least well-known pink dresses??) and marketing to little girls always has a layer of pink slathered on it so of course there needs to be a pink dress in the lineup.
