Stop believing there were actually scammers so easily. They've provided no proof to that, just assumptions made by an increase in numbers. Zero percent is that proof.

They are denied because they are not severely autistic. They have made the spectrum longer than before. I think Disney has made the right call on this and just let severely autistic people have this opportunity
There is no such thing as severely autistic. Autisme is (DSM V) a spectrum. The brain develops for each individual different. Also the stimming and other “problems” compared to neuro typical people is different for each person and each situation. So can also an autistic meltdown be more severe for someone who has great coping mechanisms. In other words: autism is a spectrum and what someone is experiencing is hard for anyone do diagnose. It takes many sessions by licensed psychologists to give an ASS (Autism) diagnosis . This should not be done by cast members (how amazing they may be) in a call of 10 minutes over Zoom without a medical background and without looking at medical documentation/diagnosis.

I am SOOOOO FREAKIN GLAD Disney finally had the b@IIs to get strict on this. NO... Anxiety, "stress" , Lactose Intolerance & emotional instability because your goldfish died should NOT qualify to bypass lines and get special priviledges! Look, if you have a problem obtaining PROOF from an ACTUAL clinical physician that proves you can't wait in lines (wether Disney requires it or not), then YOU are the problem, and the reason the abuse went sky high. 90% of us have bad backs, bad knees, anxiety, unpredictable sensitivities to certain foods... and if ALL of these people (including me) decide to "self diagnose" ourselves to be entitled to special priviledges, guess what?? Soon the "special priviledge" line is WAY LONGER than the regular line. And those of us who have to stand by as 70 "special" guests get let in for every 5 "regular" guests have HAD ENOUGH. We ALSO paid the same high price to get in, just like you. And so many of us are tired of getting treated like 2nd class citizens while the thousands of "self-diagnosed cases" get ahead of us, all DAY LONG. ENOUGH
So what about those veterans who actually need the DAS? I agree that it should limit people from cheating the system. But legit veterans shouldn’t be punished
Whether you’re a veteran or not doesnt automatically qualify you for DAS. The point here is that people are self-diagnosing themselves as “disabled”, when their “conditions” are things that 90% of us suffer from. It’s part of life. It doesn’t mean you get automatic special treatment at Disneyland. If that were the case, the “special line” would be so long, the rest of us would literally NEVER get to ride a single ride.
It IS a shame that dishonest people have gamed the system. But I’m shocked Disney couldn’t come up with a better solution. There WILL be lawsuits and this is going to cost Disney millions of dollars two years down the road. Stand by needs to realize that the DAS people HAVE waited the same 90 minutes we have waited. However, dragging six people through the LL is a visual downer for those in the standby line. I think Disney should grant a DAS pass based on PROOF of a disability for the disabled person and ONE other person only. If a family of four has an autistic child, then two can get in the standby line and the other two can join them when it is time to get on the ride. Then they can all ride together. Surely Disney can figure out the technology to make that happen and I think it is a fix that everyone could live with.
That’s why you like the changes, because it doesn’t affect you. Those adults who have social or mental disorders who now don’t qualify, will be affected.
There needed to be changes. I'm sure this will be adjusted as they see fit but seeing all the abuse just in the two weeks we were there was just sad. We are going next year again and hope it is a pleasant trip. Had no issues with universals new rules either as the abuse there was even worse.
So let's ask you this...let's say you try to renew your DAS and are told your child doesn't need DAS they can just leave the line when having an episode, and then return when feeling better? Therefore you can utilize standby just fine...pretty sure you wouldn't be so happy then! Please explain how NOT requiring documentation will cut down on cheaters?? Please explain how discriminating against many disabled individuals somehow stops cheating??? @@austingirl39 it’s so upsetting. The woman that I spoke with this morning tried everything to explain this to me even telling me that I can pay for Genie plus. Also, how are cast members going to deal with people coming back in the line and cutting everybody? That’s going to be a big issue. I have mental concerns that can leave me crying in the line-you want me to leave and come back to that? If it happens to me too much, then I’m not gonna wanna go on any rides at all. It’s really a shame what Disney is doing and it’s also a shame how that woman spoke to me this morning on the video chat. We actually sat there and stared at each other because she wouldn’t just come out and say that I didn’t qualify. I will be more than happy to show documentation from my doctor. That’s what it might come down to. And how do the people JUDGING us on video chat know that these children are actually autistic? There are children on all levels of the spectrum and I’m sure parents would lie so they can get the DAS system for their family. There’s no way to 100% guarantee that everybody who is getting DAS is telling the truth.
Here’s the issue on the bigger problem here why doesn’t Disney just require a letter from the doctor because I guarantee you most these people who are actually disabled will be more than happy to handover a doctors note my daughter and I did for universal Orlando, and it worked out just fine because we had a doctors note and it was recent. It had to be dated with them like the last few months and it was fine and that would definitely without people who are lying, so why doesn’t Disney do this the doctors note doesn’t have to stay with the diagnosis is just what the symptoms are and if we can stand in a long you are not that’s it it’s not violating anyone’s nothing and it’s better than being completely denied like this but I think the reason why Disney doesn’t take this route is because they don’t want the doctors notes because they know that these people will have legitimate reasons and they will need a dass pass. And they know it and they want you paying for their lighting money when you’re disabled, which is also illegal to tell people to go pay for a lightning lane, because you’re allowed to enjoy the same accommodations as anybody else without having to pay for it.
I would happily. I understand it is alot easier for me to get the letters etc as proof as I am in the UK. But it would make everything so much less stressful. I am one of those people that everyone thinks is scamming the system just because I look "normal" Even having my das pass for my first every trip acouple of years back made me feel awkward but with my condition I don't think I would ever cope without it. Which is why the future plan has been put on hold until more information is out
Disney tells you to practice standing in line and looking at their maps. 🙄 Return to queue will be fun. Several yrs. ago when Disney decided to modify GAC, they had CMs putting disabled people in lines willy nilly. My daughter, my niece, and I were put in a line in front of a man. He was so angry that I thought he might strike us so we allowed him to go ahead of us. Others in line were complaining as well but we did not worry about them hitting us. Disney now sells alcohol in the parks. Imagine returning to the queue and having to walk past angry drunks. That ought to be pretty. I've read a few posts where CMs have actually told people they can buy Genie+ since they no longer qualify for DAS. Ummm, disabled people are not supposed to be up charged for an accommodation.Disney has proven that they are no longer disabled friendly nor are they disabled family friendly. The inclusivity company is no longer inclusive.

So, does Disney think we all have steam rooms and can call 50 -100 of our nearest and dearest to help us practice standing in line because that's the only way to get close to what lines are when it's hot. Disney is getting a black eye in the disabled community which comprises 42.5 million people and that is just in the US. If someone who was denied DAS gets hurt in a park, the media will be all over it. NDA might be part of the deal but videos, and you know there will be videos, will make the rounds. I hope the Disney execs who came up with this idiotic idea realize their mistake before this happens.
I’m So Sorry your child was denied. My son has Autism too we’ve been able to get the DAS in the past and for our recent vacation this past November/December. My son is 23 and I’m concerned he will be denied also when we plan on going back to WDW in a few years. These changes are awful I feel bad for everyone that needs the DAS for all disabilities 😢
The problem is that they have made the spectrum of autism so long now that it is not the same for children and adults that have severe autism. People took advantage of this for so long and they still are in many aspects.
They offer Genie Plus. It works great and yes DAS was nice but was it fair? The fact that people get to vacation spend money on great hotel rooms food airline tickets and now people are probably gonna complain about buying a $15 plus Genie plus I mean seriously I think people are a little spoiled and need to realize that there are people out there like terminally ill children that need the DAS not people who are in a wheelchair. I’m in a wheelchair and easily can wait in those lines. If it’s that important to me then I will buy the Genie plus it’s not that hard and you can give up something else like the Mickey ice cream bars or something. everything in this country is going up in price and Disney is a business first and foremost. we love going to Disney and feel so grateful that we have the privilege to travel and do things that most people can only dream about.

Actually Terminally Ill get VIP treatment.. and they should.. Convenience comes with a cost... I do not expect free (even though it was nice) for my medical issues... If I want to experience Disney the way I want, then I will have to pay more...
disney is claiming DAS requests have skyrocketed since 2019 so something must be “off”, when in reality autism and adhd diagnoses and support has ALSO skyrocketed since 2019… i know correlation does not equal causation, but lots of people are finally getting diagnosed and recognizing their needs due to a big emphasis from social media to treat mental health. a newer CDC report said they found 1 in 36 children to be autistic… so yeah, of course it’s the most requested service on property… yes, there will always be non-disabled people who game the system, but i firmly believe the percentage that do compared to the people who actually need the service is a relatively small percent. disney just refuses to believe that disabled people are actually disabled, just like everyone else throughout all of time and history.
The proof is in the ableist comments on this thread...Disney saw this as a way to make $$$$ by telling disabled individuals they can BUY Genie+. I can't wait for the class action lawsuit!
My daughter has pulmonary fibrosis and on oxygen we both have this condition but hers worse. PF is when the cells in the lining of your lungs become inflamed and scar tissue forms, which means it becomes very hard and difficult for oxygen to reach the blood stream which means you basically can’t breathe without the use of oxygen that’s when it gets pretty bad so that person needs oxygen and my daughter has portable oxygen but at times the battery dies certainly doesn’t last while you’re at a theme park and you have to be near somewhere where you can plug it in and if she can’t get to her oxygen within a moments notice, then it can lead to severe heart issues where she could actually die search. It’s imperative that while we take breaks we’re near the nurses station somewhere where we know for a fact that she can plug-in her device charge it up. Use it when we have the dass pass that means we can pick a return time and right before we go back she can go and get a treatment done even if she doesn’t really need one will do it anyway just to be on the safe side and make sure that the machine is charged up and it’s ready to go unfortunately she does have an older battery so we can’t afford a new one. They’re very expensive and her medical it doesn’t cover it like a brand new machine so we really have to get use out of the one we have. Sometimes even when we come back to the line return like we did for lightning Lane a few months ago for a huge Springs. I think it was during grad week or some thing and the line was still way too long and she still couldn’t get it out mine because she’d have to leave the wine before we got up there and sometimes I just happens even with the Dss it doesn’t work. But we try at least we have the pass and it was extremely helpful by Disney, denying it disability pass to everyone unless you are bipolar or assistant or whatever developmental disability and not focusing on physical disability at all whatsoever means that I have a magic key pass that I can’t use in. This whole idea of this line switch would never work because my daughter and I having this condition I cannot leave her side. I am basically her caretaker so I don’t know how we’re supposed to get out of line to go do this and run back-and-forth to a nurses station which clearly what exacerbate her symptoms by making us leave the line every 15 minutes or at a moments notice if something happens to her oxygen machine standing in a standby line even a half especially for something like radiator springs we probably have to leave the line at least five or six times I’m guessing I can’t stand there for her and let her run back-and-forth by herself. It’s just the thought of this is so unreasonable that it’s just not even possible to go on that ride without a Dass pass. Disney has created a very hostile environment for disabled people. They have basically given the OK for disabled community to be ridiculed and blamed for everything that Disney has done wrong with within their own lightning lane in there and getting rid of fast passes and all these other things you’re trying to pin, and on the disabled community it’s rather disgusting , it created such a hostile and angry environment by blaming all their problems on disabled people that there are making it difficult even more difficult for disabled people to feel excepted, and included. It’s sad really because disable people not only do you wait to go back to their return time there’s no skipping lines they’re just waiting somewhere else matter fact, they probably wait longer than most people because when they come back to the lightning lane line. They still have to wait again and still can’t get on the ride like for my daughter, and it may not work even with the pass. And I know for a fact that they’re going to deny her they don’t care about people can literally die and what they’re doing to make it worse is that before you can even speak to a cast member they make you sign a waiver, some sort of legal document saying that you’re not gonna be part of a class action lawsuit against them for violating disability rights, you heard me right they want you to sign some thing online before you can even talk to a cast member about your disability. I’m not sure how illegal this is to do that but that’s what they’re doing taking away advanced right selections is one thing reducing amount of people that you can bring with you is another thing and telling you that you can’t book another ride for 10 minutes after you scan in I mean OK those are all things I guess I can understand that they’re going to do them to make it more fair I guess towards other people which is ridiculous, considering disabled people already have a hard time of everything but if that’s what they want to do but why take away the pass completely From disabled people and only give it to autistic people? I mean they’ve taken a problem and gone from one end of the spectrum all the way to the other I mean cutting they have just done all those things and just let people still have their deaths house, regardless of their diagnosis, this should be about their symptoms not if they’re autistic or if they have some other condition it should just matter what the symptoms are and why you can’t stand in line. Disney has filled big-time here, and I am just waiting for the class action suits to roll in
I actually went to the CM chat on the app to talk to a cast member about how I no longer feel safe as a disabled individual at the parks after seeing how aggressive and hostile many AP's are being towards disabled guests blaming us for all of the problems in the park and mocking many disabled and chronically ill guests. I may not renew my pass after seeing the ugly this has caused
They put a clause in their terms and conditions that people can’t sue. I think they’ll struggle justifying that when disabled people are passing out and having accidents in the middle of the line because Disney refused them any other option!

It says people can file suit individually but not in a class action suit. The Disney lawyers figure people are afraid to sue because Disney has deep pockets. A way around this that I'm sure a smart lawyer can figure out is to take a lot of individual suits and file them separately but all on the same day. Not class action but a lot of lawsuits nonetheless

I’m a disabled person who went through a terrible experience with the staff used to change the DAS . I would love to tell you what happened to me, I wish I had a lawyer.
This isn't new, a new way etc. This us hurting people who need this service. It's just that simple. Disney magic isn't in existence any longer. They are discriminating. It's a cash grab for them.
DAS is something the company created of its own will. It’s not a legal requirement. Disney must provide adequate accommodations as outlined in the ADA. Anything they do beyond that regulation is of their own choice. They can also remove them at their choice. As for the mental health babble… never mind.
Be angry at the people who cheated the system for so long. As much as I think Disney are money grabbers, this was always going to happen if the system was abused. You simply can’t have a lightning lane if there’s so many people in it that it just basically becomes the same as a regular line. I found DAS so useful when I went (I have epilepsy and the heat exacerbates my seizures) so I hope I’ll get it again but if not, I guess I’ll have to pay for Genie plus.
I never used DAS. I’m 100% disabled veteran. This situation doesn’t affect me at all. However, I do feel they should’ve kept the eligibility but raised the MUSTER significantly for proof of said disability. Now, people might say “well that’s against HIPA law.” Yeah. It’s not against the law when you’re offering up your information for a benefit. You volunteer the info, it isn’t being forced out of you. You either give the proof, or you don’t get the benefit. The only way forward should be to keep the eligible conditions the same but RAISE the standard of proof for the disability.
Disneyland Paris asks for proof of Disability (like a disability license) and the benefits you get are a lot better than the DAS. It's basically an unlimited fast pass for every ride and some extras for shows etc. From what I could read up the DAS system is similar to the program Paris has for temporary disabilities that require a doctor's note. So people who qualify for it get a lot more and better benefits, while people who need some assistance also get benefits and no one can abuse the service.
The process of getting approved is also a lot easier. You fill in the form a up to a month before your visit with infos like name, email etc No zoom call or anything Then you have to fill in if you need help with getting on rides, If you would be able to evacuate on your own etc. And then you just show your proof of disability when you get to the park and done you get a card you can show the cast members to get on rides. You can take I think 3 people along for rides and 2 for parades and shows.
Last time I went to Disney World a kid with a sprained ankle rolled up in a wheelchair and skipped the line with 8 of his friends… these are the people they need to block, not people with true disabilities!
Thank god someone is still talking about this! I’ve been DREADING May 20th. I have a visible disability and youthful appearance so I am lucky in that department but even still I’m terrified. I’ve been denied disability aid before because they said I was so high functioning I didn’t need it. Disney was the last place I expected to deal with ableism but for the past few weeks I’ve had to see so many vitriolic comments against MY community. They’re not mad at the abled body people abusing the system they are directly attacking people with all sorts of disabilities saying they should suck it up and sit in a wheelchair. It honestly breaks my heart and if there isn’t a total shit storm over this I will lose ALL my faith in Disney and Disney Fans.
So true. I have social anxiety, panic disorder, I have Crohn’s disease, I am a diabetic, and I have rheumatoid arthritis. I do use the mobility scooter, but my problems extend much more deeply than just my mobility problems. So if I have an anxiety attack where I can’t catch my breath and start crying, then I’m completely embarrassed and now I have to try to maneuver my mobility scooter to get out of the line while I can’t catch my breath. Great job, Disney.

Also lines are HUGE! I doubt they have enough cast members watching for fainting, hurting, panicking people.
I had issues at WDW with my friend who has MS, she was required to switch from her scooter (which provides her independence and ability to conserve her energy stores) to a manual wheelchair in some of the lines. Which we, as her companions, now had to push for her. The manual chair was wide, poor condition, didn't move easily, it didn't fit thru the stanchions in the line (but her scooter was slim and would have easily fit). If she was solo, would a cast member have helped her through line? As my electric wheelchair dependent friend said with similar expereince at Disneyland ... you are taking away my legs and my friends are not my caregivers (she had the cast member push the wheelchair).
My mom also has MS and had to use an electric scooter because she recently had foot surgery that year and I nearly fought a cast member that made my mom feel like she was an inconvenience for needing an accommodation. The wheelchairs they force you to use in queues are by far the worst things, especially in winding paths like for Peter Pan and Pirates. The paths were so narrow that I kept running the front part into walls because there wasn't enough room to turn. It really sucks :/
This is disgusting. I suffer from social anxiety panic disorder and I have used DAS for years-I was DENIED this morning. I am so disappointed and will not be renewing my annual pass next year. I always went to Disney, monthly, because it was so accessible for me and so easy but that is not the case anymore and it’s a damn shame.
@idaUnchained why should they pay??? And Genie+ is NOTHING like DAS. It isn't for every ride, and the spots fill up quickly. The Genie+ comments are ableist and uneducated 🤷♀️
@@austingirl39 they pay to get into the parks, they can pay a small fee extra to alleviate concerns related to crowds. DAS isn’t an entitlement, Disney is ADA compliant without it. It’s a courtesy service for those who truly need it. Everyone else can pay for the alternative. Life isn’t fair.
Spent 4 HOURS waiting to do the new DAS ENROLLMENT…. 4 hours! I’m really sure now that we shouldn’t continue with the annual pass. On so many levels Disney has went down, including their costumer service. The prices are more than outrageous and now with the DAS situation, which I do have medical documentation for, it’s having to relive serious injury every 120 days. I will not ever understand why they just didn’t do it like Universal Studios? I give props to Universal Studios for having established a platform, which was ingenious! The process is terrible and the lack of transparency of the conditions that qualify are even worse, as there’s no guidelines where at least our medical providers can provide documentation for. I spoke to my provider and they were clueless, as they could only provide documentation such as FMLA paperwork and a letter of permanent disability. I’m not sure I want to be put through this process every 120 days. Plus the prices are becoming ridiculous and unaffordable. My DAS got denied as they stated it was o lay for developmental disability. But complex PTSD AND military sexual trauma are not even closely considered. This is concerning. Not ADA compliant for sure.
So... You GOT your special DAS priveledge. You probably had to "wait 4 hours" because of all the thousands of people with "self-diagnosed conditions" with NO documentation who were also trying to continue getting special priviledges they've been getting for years. I'm sure the cast members were ABSOLUTELY FLOODED with all these "special cases". Blame these abusers. I am a firm believer that if you cannot provide paperwork from a clinical physician, you should automatically NOT qualify.. Problem solved!
On one hand, I understand why they'd do this because people were abusing the DAS pass, but on the other WHAT THE HELL!? Yes, I am autistic, but that's not the sole factor that makes me unable to stand in lines for extended periods of time, my anxiety, ADHD and IBS are also contributing factors. On more than one occasion my anxiety flared up so bad because I was so overwhelmed with sensory overload that I started overheating and vomiting. I actually had to leave the entire park and couldn't return! This is nothing short of a disaster to anyone with a disability!
You make a great point. I wish I explained how being on the Spectrum often is Co diagnosed with ibs, adhd, anxiety, and as a whole the diagnosis truly is a Spectrum.
@@lisah9561 What the fuck my guy? I *can* technically wait in queues, but it poses a risk for my physical and mental heath, and overall experience in the parks. Just because someone is disabled does not mean they shouldn't be able to enjoy the parks?? I've been going to Disney since I was a child, and the DAS pass has saved me so much stress and anxiety - especially the embarrassment of having to take the walk of shame out of a line because of sensory overload -, and overall has improved my park experience. Let me tell you, when I went to Tokyo Disney SEA, I had never been more miserable in my life in those lines where I didn't have access to the accommodations I required, I made it through two hour and a half long lines, but by the end of them I was antsy, overstimulated, and could barely function normally for the rest of the day, this included having a full blown panic attack in the stairwell of Journey to the Center of the Earth. You will NEVER know what that kind of shame feels like. Accommodations exist for reasons, not just to not stand in a crowded queue. So fuck you and suck my dick
I’m sad now because I also have IBS and GAD and people don’t realize how line anxiety can cause a bad flare! People don’t realize IBS and stress are correlated, and now just thinking about being in one of those lines, how awful of a day it will be. IBS/Crohns/Colitis isn’t a piece of cake.

I have many guesses as to why they aren't accepting diagnosis, but non that can be proven. I don't know if they just can train enough cast members to accept them and understand them? Does it cost too much to have real medical professionals on staff? Could they not work with the same company SeaWorld and Universal work with? They just are taking people's word. They are looking for how well someone can explain the standing in line and how it affects then. Sigh
@@fantasylandnews Yeah I'm from the UK and have many documents/cards that are proof main one is my ASD diagnosis letter from 2012 when I was 11 that is from NHS (National Health Service) that I need to obtain a Priority Card at DLP (Disneyland Paris) due to it being French Law to show proof of disability when request access arrangements.

This info is not true. A family member qualified and had one of issues that you mentioned “would not qualify.” Please do more research before sharing bad info.
Autism is NOT the only one that qualifies but it is just an example. The new policy is geared towards people with developmental disabilities like autism or similar, and of course, even if they do have that, it isn't a guarantee that they will get approved. Please don't spread misinformation.

I’m autistic and I was denied the other day. Before the changes I had DAS for multiple years and currently have it for Universal. It’s definitely helped me at the parks. If you lack visible stereotypical autism traits like lack of eye contact, or if you’re well spoken they will almost definitely deny you as “you don’t look that autistic” I don’t get offended by things easily, but that pissed me off.
they did it because they have enough evidence to back up the abuse. Never in a million years would they open up to a ADA compliance issue if they were not sure of it
I don't have autism, my symptoms and triggers for FND (neurological disorder) can be very similar to autism. I don't think anyone wants the hassle of me leaving a line (especially fantasyland at Disneyland with older very tight ques) when my FND and vestibular migraines kick in from overstimulation or heat. Transient blindness, dragging my now non functioning leg, dizzy and/or myoclonus (jerks, twitch). My brain has a glitch, not under my control.
With my wheelchair and how tight some of the lines are there’s no way I’d be able to leave the line. Especially if someone else in a wheelchair is queueing
Get mad at people who abused the system. I hate to say it but people with anxiety, IBD (I have both of these), and even cancer can purchase genie + to bypass the lines. People in these categories can understand a return time window. DAS is different because it’s one ride at a time (so, no ride stacking) and the return window is “anytime after the return time” which is longer for an hour for those guests who may not be able to return within a specified hour window due to a number of reasons. Neither system is perfect, but both are better than a standby only system, and Disney can only do so much. I have found genie + to be very effective for skipping lines in the parks and I don’t mind paying for that service given what I’m already spending to be there; universal’s express pass is wayyyy more expensive, even Dollywood’s express passes are more expensive, so in comparison it’s not so bad.
Your comment is extremely ableist...not to mention, you are proving the real reason behind Disney's decision....$$$$$ from Genie+. Using your logic nobody needs DAS, because everyone can purchase Genie+ or utilize everything Disney is now telling disabled individuals. You can't charge disabled guests for their accommodation 🤦♀️

DAS is different because there isn’t a limited return window, it’s for the remainder of the day until used due to the various reasons why it’s difficult for those who need it to adhere to return window times. And you can use DAS multiple times on the same ride in one day whereas you cannot do that with Genie +. They are different and genie + accommodates anyone who doesn’t feel comfortable waiting in line, including those of us with nondevelopmental disabilities. Being offended and labeling me as “ableist” isn’t going to change facts or circumstances. You’d be better off taking a deep breath and thinking of more constructive ways to approach the issue if you believe it’s a problem.
@@austingirl39 access and convenience aren’t the same thing. Disney doesn’t have to offer DAS at all, but they do as a courtesy for children with developmental disabilities. They’re already ADA compliant without this courtesy service. Adults who can comprehend return times and manage to get themselves to parks can purchase the same paid convenience service as everyone else. You can name call all you want, but it won’t change reality.
@@idaUnchained We know the difference between access and convenience. We deal with it daily. Disney is offering DAS because they were sued by an Autism group sometime ago (maybe 2010?)and the plaintiff won. It was not the suit lots of people bring up about the child wanting to ride over and over again.
@@abbyrock5684 right. And in those cases (I believe there were multiple) one of the key elements of the plaintiffs’ disabilities was the inability to understand the concept of time. The vast majority of people freaking out about this new change is not due to an inability of o understand the concept of time but a general aversion to lines for whatever reason. That’s not the same thing and there has to be a line drawn somewhere. It’s absolutely taking advantage of the severely autistic group to claim the same harm when there are other solutions that could work for the majority of former DAS users who can understand return time windows and would benefit from genie + or alternative modifications. I’m sure in a few years or however long it takes for such litigation to reach a trial phase that this will be argued and answered (and undoubtedly appealed by the party who doesn’t prevail). At least lawyers will be making bank, so there’s security in that profession!
Also a quick reminder, I'm autistic myself and I love being called disabled and special needed or autistic as i am different. So you did NOTHING offensive to me!
I have primary progressive multiple Sclerosis I have to use a wheelchair to get around,also due to my ms I have a very weak bladder which means I may need need to go to the bathroom without much notice and my brain no longer works as healthy people I have massive cognitive problems!
i went to disney for the first time in a few years a week ago. im a very "high functioning" person despite my autism, but waiting on those crowded loud lines is awful for me! i went to a guest support desk and had a cast member explain the DAS process to me. when i was gonna go, they stopped me and let me know that i would probably be declined under the new system because i "understood lines". so basically we have to be profoundly disabled to qualify? am i less deserving of accommodations because i dont have an intellectual disability? decisions like this make me want to not plan my next disney trip and just opt for a smaller local park instead. who approved this?? no one disabled, i assume. thank god i had a friend there in my disney app party with me who got DAS, all of our trips wouldve been ruined if we had to stay in the conventional lines instead of waiting outside.

Also I wonder in the past, was it true that anyone who has a DAS service, they could just skip the queue and go straight up to attractions or characters immediately?
That is a good question and not easy to answer. Yes, and no. Depending on how far in the past you want to go. In the early 2000's yes, you could go right to the front of the line. Disney changed that to the newer version, where you had to get a return time that was equal to the queue time to return. As far as characters, I have absolutely seen families who truly needed DAS and support being given front of line so they did not have to wait as long. Those were very special cases like Make-A-Wish or those who were severally disabled. So in each case it could have been slightly different for different reasons. Which is why all of this is such an in depth conversation.
@fantasylandnews I see! See, with the return time, all disneyland are like that including one in tokyo, hong kong and paris too which in the past, it wasn't the case. Well, in hong kong, the DAS is only new, in recent years, in the past, there were no such things as DAS in hong kong as hong kong didn't understand about autism not until recents years these days.
It’s not broken! It’s the same system as before just online and zoom call. The question is why you can’t stand or wait in a long queue? Well for one I can’t turn around for a fire emergency or restroom bc I am in a wheelchair or ecv scooter. Daaaa.
My granddaughter with POTS is no longer going to be able to enjoy the parks. She will be spending the day in the room. She ends up in first aid with DAS without she will not be able to go.
The das pass saved my first ever trip afew years back. If I didn't have the Pas for me and my partner with my condition the parks just would not have been possible to try and enjoy. I understand all the fakes etc it is trying to eliminate, but people like myself who have documents and proof can easily share the information needed. Being from the UK I understand it is a different situation but a system where we can just share our info and get the das pass genuinely would make it so much easier on the people actually needing it. The current situation has put out future trip at a standstill for now as we are waiting for more information before we even think of committing to booking a future trip.
Documents and proof being the key words. The abuse has gotten rampant because everyday people have been allowed to “self diagnose” their hangryness and Taco-Bell intolerance as “disabilities”.
New Rules went into place at 7:00 AM EST today. Disney now makes you sign away your rights to a class action lawsuit when you sign the terms of service. We will be updating our video and information later today.

What in the actual FUCK?!! That is diabolical because nobody is sharing that new information. A lot of people are gonna go in thinking the terms of service haven’t changed and agree without reading.
Disney has become inaccessible to people with severe disabilities like me. It’s not right and it shouldn’t be legal. They need to be sued. They no longer recognize the physical reasons why someone needs to skip lines. I am non-ambulatory and cannot stand. I have always needed 1 to 2 people to lift me on and off my favorite Disney rides, including Pirates and Haunted Mansion. I have to pay for my caregivers' tickets and food. I don't expect Disney to cover that, but I DO expect them to allow me to experience as much in a day at the park as I could if I was able-bodied and those rides were accessible. Being lifted on and off rides takes a lot of energy for me and those helping me. If we must wait in line for hours in the heat for each ride, or even get a return time and go somewhere else to wait, I will only be able to go on a few rides per day. When disabled people could skip the lines, I could visit everything I wanted to in a park in one or two days just like everyone else. Now it would take me three or four days, adding massively to the expense. I should not have to pay more because their rides are inaccessible!
You DO realize that the abuse is so rampant that the people standing in lines have to wait 2-3 hours for each ride too, RIGHT?? This is because the “special line” is literally NEVER ENDING nowadays. So, if I ALSO pay the high price to get in, but can only ride 3 or 4 rides because I stand in line all day, how is that fair to US?? So, by your own words, only “disabled” people get to “enjoy as many rides as possible” And I use quotations for the word “disabled” because the majority of these people, are NOT.
I am so sorry for anyone with an actual disability or is physically unable to wait in lines but the bottom line is you should be screaming at Disney not at the people who are scammers. Yes they screwed up. They shouldn’t be doing that at all using systems that are meant for others, but how about we bring back fast passesthat are free and maybe stop price gouging everyone then maybe people wouldn’t be resorting to such extremes
The das pass is a life saver for those wirh disabilities . Both physical. And non-physical. . give an example we’ll chat on person with a compromising immune system cannot be out too long and sunlight or someone who suffers seizure disorder. This is a great pass for them now only need to keep them safe but the guest around them.
If you can actually provide paperwork that you get constant seizures, I'm SURE you will have no problem qualifying. However, If you believe you need "special priviledges" because Taco Bell gives you the runs, GET OUTTTA HERE!!

My daughter is completely blind, and we've used the DAS pass with our Magic Keys at Disneyland for several years. Having her navigate the twists and turns and constant stops and starts of the line while completely blind is nearly impossible. We've had people in front of us trip on her cane or step on it and break off the tip. Minimizing the distance she has to travel in line is crucial. The way Disney states it now indicates that she would no longer qualify. The new rules start in a few weeks at Disneyland, so we'll have to see what happens...
I just returned from Disney World with my wife who is visually impaired. We were denied the DAS pass. My wife has a great deal of trouble navigating the stand-by lines, though some rides had lines that weren’t a complete nightmare. For the ableist post above who seems to think this is all about standing in lines, it isn’t. The other issue we faced is not always having a Disney employee ready to assist with the rides. There were rides we could not have gotten onto were it not for the availability of an employee. When riding “Tower of Terror,” the sole employee managing loading the ride told my wife “I can’t help, I’m the only one here.” There are a myriad of issues facing individuals with disabilities, and Disney did a decent job in the past. Now? I think we’ll be visiting other places next time. To the previous ableist poster, maybe consider that until you live with a particular disability, you have no idea what that person can do or needs - NONE. Take your ableist responses to somewhere on the internet where hatred can thrive.
Unpopular opinion. All qeues are ADA compliant with the exception of big thunder mountain. DAS was never meant for medical/mobility..and yes even mental health issues. It was made for the developmentally and cognitively impared. If your mental health or medical condition is so bad that you can't tolerate waiting in line then you probably shouldn't be trying to force yourself through a crowded theme park with attractions full of motion and photosensitive effects and sudden loud noises. Sometimes you're just not able to do something no matter how much you feel entitled to the opportunity. I absolutely believe they need to be even stricter and require an IBCCES card. The abuse was so bad that disney actually had to do something about it. At great risk of discrimination complaints and hippa roadblocks. If you're too fragile to wait in line then you're too fragile to use the attraction you can't tolerate waiting for. I said what I said.

The new paid Multi Pass is the PAID DAS pass but 1) you can’t chose the big rides (ex: Flight of Passage, Rise of the Resistance) with the multi vs how the DAS did allow you to if available. And 2) you can only book each ride 1x per day vs DAS allowed you as many times as there was availability. But the pre booking, booking (3) rides before your trip, all apart of new PAID revamped Genie+
