Disney Should Be VERY Worried About This! Big News For Star Wars Movies 

Barbenheimer was a phenomenon because of just how opposite the two were, two sci-fi going up against each other will not have the same result.

Disney does not realise that 30 minute episodes for Acolyte and ALL shoes in general is not acceptable by anyone, nor is it enough time to flesh out a complicated story and characters. 8 episodes are pathetic, way to few, and you cant explore anything. You need 12-15, so you can take the pace down, and give characters a propoer arc, you dont need big effects every episode. By having more you can have more history, more explanation of what is going on, and when you then have action, it all makes more sense.We need 45-60 minute long Star Wars episodes in general.

Favreau & Filoni just need to create the best SW film possible! Kathleen & Iger diluted the quality of the IP via The Sequel Trilogy! The fact Dune is releasing the same day proves Disney’s incompetence even more.

Im a die hard star wars fan but id rather rewatch dune1 than anything disney is about make.

Disney’s handling of Star Wars has been disappointing. Favreau and Filoni should have been in charge from the start. Now, things are a mess at Lucasfilm, and at this point I doubt they can fix it. The Star Wars brand has suffered, and based on their recent history of failed products and declining interest from casual viewers, it might take a long time to restore its reputation.

I'm excited about Mando and Grogu. The director of the Rey movie has me concerned.

I don’t think you understand fans. The fans who care about Mara Jade or Ventress are also very much going to care about Mundi.

They truly missed the mark with a Sith series most fans wanted, including myself. This could've been a great Ronin style, Shogun revealing Darth Plagueis or Tenebrous.

When a star wars show have HALF the audience of BABY REINDEER it's obvioud something is very wrong.

I will watch both movies regardless of whether they come out at the same time. One difference you didn't mention is that The Mandalorian and Grogu will be more family friendly than Dune and attract a slightly different audience (that includes children) than just general sci-fi fans.

I don't think the December 2026 date for the Star Wars movie is accurate. After they announced new movies at Star Wars Celebration 2023, there were rumors that two Star Wars movies would be released in 2026, in May and December. But a few months ago at a Disney meeting, Bob Iger said that only one Star Wars movie will come out in 2026, in May and that is The Mandalorian movie.

I think we all need to redefine what being offended means. It definitely does not mean "disliking or disgreeing with something". It takes a lot to really offend someone.

The only thing that will improve viewership is a story with Luke, Han and Leah, because they were so badly treated in the Sequel films the desired hand over to a new generation fail spectacularly. Until these hero’s get the fitting ending they deserve then nothing new will ever succeed.

I think they're just going to push the movie back by two months or so. It would be stupid to show the movies at the same time.

Anotther problem that also applies to Marvel's shows is that episodesare too short and too few of them. Audiences getting frustrated by that.

Non-issue, it’s almost impossible Dune 3 will be finished by then. Pre-production has already begun for Mando&Grogu. Meanwhile, nothing has occurred with Dune. 1) Denis Villeneuve has established that he’s taking a break from the franchise to direct something else before returning for the next Dune. 2) He’s also admitted he has no idea how he’d adapt a long, low-action story like Dune 3 to the big screen (experts have their doubts about how it can be done, but they did before), and Denis’ only interested in in creating a sequel if it can be of equal quality to the first two. 3) The writing alone is going to take forever and pre-production hasn’t really begun these films take years. December 26, 2006 is just the studio picking a target date that will get moved. It’s no threat to Star Wars whatsoever. The only threat to Star Wars is STAR WARS. Disney’s been plagued by trying to serve too many masters including 1) Disney’s changing CEOs, fickle shareholders and threats hostile takeovers. 2) their floundering attempt at creating a streaming network with limited *new* content and over-investment in rushed TV shows for two IPs: Marvel and Star Wars of wildly inconsistent quality. 3) President Kathleen Kennedy’s high-level and very loose vision of the franchise vs the conflicting visions of various writers with very strong but different approaches such as Filoni/Favreau to Rian Johnson to Leslie Headland to Tony Gilroy. 4) Showing their cards WAY too soon by announcing upcoming releases with little-to-no development or commitment to or from writers and then deeply disappointing fans over and over and losing their trust when too much time has passed and deals fall through. (See the Kenobi and Boba Fett films that became mediocre TV shows, Rian Johnson trilogy, Game of A Thrones producers’ old republic show, Patty Jenkin’s Rogue Squadron, Taika Watiti’s hypothetical film, the Lando series/movie, and something about Droids that was prob just a sticky note someone threw into their brainstorming pile. 5) And most challenging: the deep-seated desire to give those talented (but very different) writers, producers and directors the freedom/space to create something as fresh and different and groundbreaking as the original trilogy to NEW audiences…but keeping them trapped/hamstrung from being creative by an already highly-developed canon. A canon that is so strictly gatekept by a loving but deeply attached fandom often poisoned by a toxic few with very little tolerance for deviation from *their* idea of what Star Wars is. A toxic minority whose fears are stoked by influencers looking for views and taking advantage of modern social media as a rage engine (supported by literal Russian bots) to deepen the divide and destroy good will towards anything that threatens their nostalgia. Like modern American politics, there is money and power in sewing this division, deepening polarization by strictly adhering to one set of views and rejecting others outright with no space between.

I am very concerned that you're anxious that Disney should be worried about a movie release date. I'm more apprehensive about the Fandumb Review Bombers turning people away with their Social Politics War. _Begun _*_World War III_*_ has._

Star Wars was once the world’s largest IP, and every other movie would have to schedule around it. Now a Star Wars movie can’t even compete with Dune 3, and has to schedule around everyone else. I have zero interest in watching any Disney SW movie.

Simply put, The Acolyte is an amateurish attempt to make a Star Wars like story. Unfortunately it even fails at that. I will watch it just out of curiosity, just like when you see an accident on the highway.

I'm not a fan of Star Wars movies anymore. Shows give us far more to unpack and feels more exciting on a weekly basis.

I mean the ingredients for a Star Wars comeback are all there, Kathleen Kennedy just doesn't want to use them. Look how crazy the fans went for Luke when he showed up in Mandalorian. Look how everyone went crazy for Darth Vader in Rogue One. Look how well-received Andor was. Look at what a money pit Grogu has been. Make a movie starring beloved characters like Din Djaron and Grogu, with the tone of Andor, that has awesome cameos from legacy characters from the OT doing awesome hallway scenes. And to make sure people come back to watch it again, delve deep into the lore and make a rich, plot driven story. THAT'S how you make a Star Wars blockbuster nowadays.

If Mara Jade come into cannon, it has potential to save the sequel movies. If she is Luke's wife in Disney cannon. If she and Luke had at least one child. If she and the child were in hiding after the attack of the knights of Ren on Luke's academy. And finally that being the reason he went into hiding sin solitude, to protect them.

I think she would make an amazing Asaaj Ventress in live action!

Sydney Sweeney as Mara Jade is actually something I could get behind but only if it ran true to the original Thrawn trilogy. Episode VII: Heir to the Empire Episode VIII: Dark Force Rising Episode IX: The Last Command Yup. A complete Retcon (faithfully) based on the Timothy Zahn masterpieces.

tbh I think everyone needs to drop the pitting properties against each other mindset , people are capable of watching more than one movie, doesnt need to be on the sameday, its also a Jon movie like the guys made great movies lol

I wish Disney Lucasfilm would hire a director like Villneuve and leave them to their own devices, to create their own vision, without the ‘checkbox’ input from anyone who has been working on Disney era SW, including (especially) Kennedy & Filoni.

Disney sw isn't in the same league as the dune movies.... Not even the same sport. Still baffled how bad a job Disney has done with sw, it almost seems like it has to be intentional, lol. How could they've messed things up this bad?

They should be worried. What Dune has so far accomplished with such dense source material is nothing short of amazing. A director with a vision, a plan, fantastic acting, and mind blowing visuals. Oh yeah, and it checks all the boxes that DSW seems so preoccupied with. Let's hope the Dune IP never comes up with an atrocity like The Galactic Star cruiser "experience"!

Shows you how bad Disney Star Wars has been. There was a tine when other peiple moved their movies they didnt want to go up against Star Wars. The fact they don't think any Star Wars movie they make can handle competition. Makes me think they know that they can't deliver.

As a big Din & Grogu fan I’m all the way in. I still would’ve preferred season 4, but either way I’ll be there. Very, very doubtful, 2 sci-fi/fantasy films will create the same effect as Barbenheimer, so hopefully Lucasfilm will decide against this.

She reads more Asaaj Ventress to me. Not even close to Mara. As much as I've wanted a live action Mara for decades, I don't trust them to ever do her right and not ruin her.

My son and I will see it and I think that it would be great for the theater box office. I did not see the dune series and I will wait until it comes out on what ever station it is on. I think that Sydney Sweeney will be a great fit for new the new star wars movie get her while she is the hot actor in movies and the Ray movie will be another movie we will see. I didn’t watch the acolyte because of all that came before… I’m in a position I’ve never thought I would be in, and that’s being absolutely sad about Star Wars content… Kenobi killed my enthusiasm, mando 3 and Boba were pretty lame too… even Ahsoka had so many missed opportunities and character plots ruined that I just couldn’t watch anymore… oh… and the “sequels”… I’m tired of canon breaking stories that go absolutely nowhere… I can imagine after the Acolyte a lot of fans are going to feel the same, so I wouldn’t dream of a massive and triumphant return to the big screen just yet Lucasfilm… you need to get your Bantha Fodder together first.

Ditch mando, ditch Rey. Mara Jade should be broght into cannon with a brand new movie. Honestly people if they decided to release the Thrawn trilogy of Zahn's with a few added twists they would have a hit on their hands. Yeah they would have to recast Han, ,Leia, and Luke but so what.

Threatened by Avatar? Which at best is a blip in sci-fi cultural relevance (the vast majority have already forgotten the last one). But not by Dune: Messiah? The current sci-fi movie juggernaut, and a strong reason to why Star Wars was great in the first place! Odd choice!

If I had to choose I’d certainly be seeing Dune. Really bad timing for a return to the theaters for Star Wars.

Most people will go and see one or the other, ands at the moment my choice would be Dune, because they know what they’re doing. Another question would be why are they releasing so late in December? Go for the end of three first week in the month and they will be guaranteed the Christmas market. I think the overwhelming feeling around the Acolyte has been people are either puzzled or pissed off. I’ve been closer to being puzzled most of the time, but I’m trying to be fair to it. I understand they’re going for a mystery type series, but there has been a lack of flow to the unraveling and it’s been very slow at times. The last episode was almost too fast in some ways, and they’ve currently messed up canon for a lot of people. Look, canon can change, but they tend to more subtle ones that make sense and add to canon. As things stand, there are big scorch marks running through it and they have three episodes to resolve that in some way. If some of it is left hanging then it’s fine, but the main tentpoles people have hinged things on going into this show need to be resolved.

It would be very presumptuous of Lucasfilms to overlook the millions of old school fans upset with Disney Star Wars. Betting on The Mandalorian fan base after season 3 is crazy. Unless, Ahsoka S2 comes out by the first trimester of 2026, and blows it out the park with ratings, critics and fans setting up a big finale for the big screen. That would be, in my mind, the only scenario that could make The Mando film competitive with Dune. Otherwise it will be very painful to see a fanbase loved by the people behind Dune crush an absent fanbase alienated by Disney.

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing a double header DUNE 3 & Star Wars movies in 70mm IMAX but that Star Wars movie absolutely has to be amazing this time around.

Drama films like dune always get the upper hand. Because it’s “mature” and “adult” and “prestigious”. It just seems like people forget to have fun sometimes. Dave Filoni draws inspiration from movies like E.T., Goonies, Close Encounters. Films that give you a sense of wonder. So many “intense plots” these days. He’s trying to bring wholesomeness from my point of view.

Villaneuve's first two Dune movies are VASTLY better than anything Disney Star Wars has ever put out.

I've never watched Dune so I'm definitely going to all the star wars movies because I've always loved star wars.

Still Un sure if its a Dune sequel. Villeneuve said he needed to be in another universe before he could return to Dune.

I ❤ Grogu and the Mandalorian. I do not usually find tv show transfers to movies work. I may wait for the stream release. Not interested in the Ray movie. Very interested in the Early High Republic James Mangold movie.

About The Acolyte viewership… Keep in mind that this is still the summer and many people are traveling without the means of streaming in the manner that they are accustomed. People will binge watch. On the new theatre releases… I will be there for all of them at a theater with reclining seats that serves alcohol. 🎉

I honestly don’t get the logic behind this Rey movie, if you want to make a movie on a sequel trilogy character why on Earth wouldn’t you just do a Ben Solo prequel with Luke’s Jedi Temple. Kylo was by far the best and most popular character in that trilogy, bro’s a fan favourite even among people who hate those movies. A Rey movie is simply just a bad idea, and they’re not doing themselves any favours in also getting an outspoken activist talking about *”I like making men uncomfortable”* to direct the movie…just fumble after fumble after fumble, it seems like they’re never going to learn.

The poor performance that Star Wars is likely to have in theaters has nothing to do with them not having anything in theaters since 2019. And Dune has actually done very well. The issue is their product is now so bad that they have wounded their fan base. It tells you all you need to know when they are afraid of other franchises now. It used to be that every franchise, and I do mean every franchise, was afraid of Star Wars. To be honest, there's no spit in reality where they should release the "Rey" movie anytime soon. They must repair the viewership damage before exploring that story.

I would release maybe Dec 20th, or go January 04th. Everyone is still on holidays.

It could be the problem of killing off the most compelling characters? Just as we were getting invested in the young Jedi Knights that were showing promise as action heroes, they kill them off again.

A lot of fans hate that Ki-Adi-Mundi is in the Crapalyte I mean Acolyte and Disney keeps messing up the Starwars

There’s also the worry that Star Wars under Disney has been generally on the decline but Dune has been amazing.

I strongly dislike when Studios push back release dates for such spurious reasons, in this case because they believe December is some magic month, sure it has Christmas in it, but i despise the idea they make us wait an extra 6 months just because they feel this month is magic for movie releases We have had so many delays in various shows over the last couple of years, writers guild strike, and silly studios pushing back for their "lucky month", im sick of it

I had always hoped they would somehow forget about the Rey Palpatine saga.

The new Jedi order movie is going to release on December 2025 and I really wish I was in that movie. I could be the son of Luke Skywalker. I think Dune 3 should release in spring or summer of 2026. Although it would be cool to see Zendaya in a star wars movies or tv series. I think Karen Gilman should play Mara Jade and Sydney Sweeney should a different Jedi character in upcoming star wars movies or tv series.

I'm super excited to see what Villeneuve does with Messiah. Our family also loves Rey and hope the new movie finally does the character justice. We will definitely see both films

Dune 3 is not a hero story, quite the contrary. And that is something only Book fans of Dune are aware of. And it might shock a lot of moviegoers seeing Paul as a tyrant and his Empire based on mass murder. Herbert wrote Dune Messiah partially because readers of Dune believed Paul to be a hero, which he is not. Why is that relevant? people disappointed by Dune 3's darker turn might look for lighter hero fodder and there Mando and Grogu would be ideal.

I disagree, a double feature weekend for Starwars would be a disaster, because the news outley would make it as a competition, and I think right now starwars would lost, even if he movie is good, and that is a sad beginning to the new star wars movie. Also I don't think the three last episodes can save the series, episode 5 was too good and I don't think the last part (with also a flashback along the way) can beat it.

Cinemas should push back on Disney. At Christmas, during holidays, they should demand good movies that will fill the seats. Not sure Star Wars will do that for them

Because the Dune series is kicking Star Wars’ hind end in every aspect. From story telling to cinematic quality. The Disney Star Wars is that disappointing family member that did well as a child and fails so miserably as an adult that everyone in the family eagerly watches and cheers on but just never seems to pull through for a win.

Sweeney would bring the younger fans to be sure, but the whole dang fandom wants anyone remotely attractive to be Mara Jade.

It’s pretty disingenuous to state that it’s hard to believe a singular event is the cause of people tuning out by episode 5 rather than acknowledging there was a series of events over the course of the first 5 episodes that caused people to tune out. 😂

I’m looking forwrd to the Mando and Grogu movie but not Rei. I just don’t care. Like I’ll watch it if it comes out, but I’m not eager for it. I have higher hopes for Mando and Grogu, but even that I’m approaching cautiously optimistic. The movie I really care about is Dave Filoni’s whenever that happens. I’m also looking to Dune 3, buy I found the first 2 rather confusing. I needed my friend to help me fully understand what was going on and the nuances of it.

In regards to the Acolyte, I'll stick with it to the end, but the Jedi just aren't interesting enough to be main characters unless they're rule breakers.

Most people have better things to do, like working hard to buy food or even sleeping to bother with Star Wars now!
