Dear Kneon: they used to hire based on merit and hold workers to a high standard. That's why things built decades ago are still holding up while today's garbage isn't doing so hot. People cared more about quality, period.
Additionally management is just focused on minimizing cost and maximizing profit, so lots of corners are cut. You can have the most talented imagineers ever, but even they'll fail if they're only given duct tape and a dream to make an attraction.
Too true!! Too true! You see that everywhere too! Even up north, you don't want a newly built house for 40K instead you want to buy that 250,000 fixer upper! It will survive longer because it has a good solid foundation, unlike the cookie cutter new building.
There attention to detail WAS fantastic. Then DEI hit, and things slowly went to crap. They don't hire the best executives anymore. They hire the required skin color, sexual behavior, genitalia, and right social and political views.
Walt and his people were consummate PROFESSIONALS. So much so, that they CREATED the standards of the amusement park industry and pushed this type of business to new heights.
It'll still take some time, but the end is near for Disney parks having the most visitors everywhere. The people running the company now can't get out of their own way to eliminate the layers upon layers of nonsense and cut through internal corporate politics to get anything substantial done. There's no hiding the lack of upkeep and lack of innovation at the Disney parks. People see it, and they see all the complex planning they have to do to be able to even attempt to go on rides before discovering the rides are down again.
Last time I visited Disneyland (2018) I was surprised at how neglected Tomorrowland felt. There was the abandoned peoplemover track, the waste-of-space Star Wars launch bay, the monorail that only travels a very short distance, the Astro Orbitor that I don't think they could have been placed in a worse spot. It almost feels like they forgot about its existence. And to me it kills the magic. So what does Disney do? Make Galaxies Edge that doesn't meet what they promised and get rid of attractions like Splash Mountain and make them worse. So you start to question is it worth the hiked up admission and add-ons.
I grew up going to Disneyland. I WAS planning to take my Grandkids. Disney has gone so far from what Walt envisioned it brings sadness to my heart. It is no longer a park for everyday families to enjoy. Disney has gotten to full of itself. I will take the Grands to Dollywood.
Great choice! I was there 2 years ago and no wokery at the park. Clean (and crowded due to the top ranking as the best theme park in the US). Dolly Parton is a genius.
My parents took us to Disney World for the first time in 2004. My mom had amazing memories of going to both Disney parks as a kid, but she got so upset she cried when she took us because so many of her favorite rides were gone or closed for refurbishment. This was before the internet was big so she didn’t know about it. I felt so bad for her…
@JillCee Tolkien's grandson is also a piece of crap and endorsed the pipe of feces that is The Rings of Power for a fat cheque. He's jealous of the talent that his grandpa had and of how his father preserved that legacy.
Here's the thing about the cruise industry,......every company seems to be leveling up, building bigger and bigger ships, thinking that there is an unending amount of people who want to drop 500 a day on their vacation (and re Disney, that would be on a boat with a thousand kids on it). In an age when the birth rate is falling all over the developed world, this is going to eventually turn out to be a bad investment. And here the world is on the verge of war all over the place, with some ports in the middle east area unavailable already and pirates going after anything they think they can. And then there is the whole issue of how we are deep in a recession and exactly what is going to keep us out of slipping into a depression given that the uniparty is fine with printing money and laundering it with criminals far away. This is just one more mistake D is going to F up.....they are letting their biggest moneymaker fall to ruins. They are set up for something bad to happen on the ships as well if they are run by the same company that is busy destroying its capital.
It is easier to ignore reality and say "Shut up, right wingers and doomsayers, NOTHING WILL CHANGE!" over and over rather than actually LOOK at the world, do the calculations, analyze the situation and admit they're wrong and that they need to change. Change comes hard for most of the world. Change is impossible for deluded people that live in gold-rimmed crystal bubbles.
Disney alienated its families with rediculous prices for theme parks that are basically worn to the bone. The lack of maintenance is beyond noticeable. The staff is not what it once was. The lack of family values is frustrating. Walt is so tired from rolling over in his grave. They abused the park income to carry terrible investments. And now they are reaping what they sowed. I for one after pandemic will never return. They have abused my good will. Hope all the woke BS fills their pocket cause family minded are not going to do it after what I have seen.
Someone with park experience on the imagineering side was posting to X talking about how hydrolic animatronics are better suited for wet and humid environments, where electric ones that they used in Tiana's don't stand a snowball's chance in heck
Knowing both, that is extremely logical, so of course Disney will use electric. Hydraulics repair is a specific skillset I hadn't considered becoming rare, but with mining and heavy industry drying up here in the States, I guess so. Plus, animatronic hydraulics repair would be a VERY specific skillset.
5 years ago a financial advisor at Edward Jones suggested I buy Disney stock. He told me that their company focuses on long term investments. I told him I had an interest in buying Silvercorp Metal Inc. He said that his firm doesn't do small cap stocks. This stock on the day I went into his office has not ever dipped below the price that it was at. Disney is down 30%.
If Disney stock keeps dipping and becomes insanely low, like a few dollars or dozen dollars a stock? I'll buy up as much as I can if it buttoms out at an insanely low price. If it bottoms out at a meager ONE DOLLAR? I'll buy a thousand of their stocks, because I don't think it can go below 1 dollar. On the off chance I can either make a big win later, or hold some stock hostage.
Disney needs to learn from universal. Let the rumor sites do what they want, and just start building whatever they’re gonna build, and when it’s 70% done, then announce them, not announcer everything so far ahead of time that you either don’t deliver or give people a reason to postpone coming to the parks. Logic goes right over their heads’ tho.
The big difference is that Universal is helmed by Comcast, who is substantially larger than Disney. They can actually afford to do that. It's obvious Disney throws out the first ideas they have in an attempt to grab investors
Remember when professional athletes, after winning a championship, would say "I'm going to Disneyland!"? They don't say it now because even they can't afford to go.
If they ever did a Villians' land, all the villians would be misunderstood. There would be one ride, with screens, where you help to reform the villians, 6 gift shops and five restaurants.
Having a villain area would be pretty cool but sadly I think you're right about how they'd do it which would make it suck bad. But it's a fun idea in theory.
I hear a couple products that will be sold in Tiana’s shop are good . . . Good but overpriced. I think the ride was themed to sell stuff from the shop. P.S: the shop is not open yet for some reason.
Donald Duck; Blame Mickey Mouse! LOL. But serious now. It would be SOOOOO hilarious if someone were to really remake that old song to fit Disney's fate.
Disney is in a state of degeneration for years by now. Maybe it´s time to finally pass away and make room for something new. Give the big franchises to anybody who can make them work again and win fans back.
It's not the parks' fault. it's the guy who manage Disney. Instead of upkeeping the parks, Bob Iger buys himself Knighthood. he's more concerned about his own legacy than that of Disney's.
Or that time he took a vacation and called it a "resignation" just so he could position himself like the grand hero returning to the save the day from big bad evil Chapek.
That's pretty much the only reason Chapek was made CEO in the first place back in 2020. Chapek was used as a scapegoat so Iger could come back and pretend he's making a difference, even though EVERYONE knows that Disney's current state before AND after Chapek is Iger's fault.
5:30 the cruises might be doing well now, but I think maintaining the islands will drag them down. I just watched one of the new videos from Theme Park Express and was not impressed.
How many billions has Iger spent on purchasing other companies, and then more billions on creating a streaming service. Disney would’ve been better off investing that money into its parks and making good TV shows and movies. Walt Disney did not spend millions (billions in today’s money) buying someone else’s story empire from them to make into shows, he either adapted fairy tales, (no existing copyright to worry about I assume) or bought the show rights from authors. Or had screen writers write a story. I wonder how much author Erich Kastner was paid for the rights to The Parent Trap.
The unfortunate reality of dropping the ball on Tiana's ride is that current Disney imagineering is worse than "racism" because that's their stated reason for changing it. Thems the rules that they made for themselves.
I like to think of Mickey and Bugs as the victims of their companies poor actions, rather than the ones pulling the strings. I just can’t see them otherwise.
They need to separate the park from other sectors, the parks make the profit but dont get investment cause every other sector doesnt make enough money. The parks are actually stagnating, look at Animal Kingdom closing everyday at 6 or 7pm,Epcot cut back the dates of the festivals and now that park is a ghost town,Hollywood Studios has like half the park with 1989 attractions or empty like the courtyard by the little mermaid and Magic Kingdom needed to do that rumored expansion like 10 years ago.The current parks are in need of expansions or renovations so they just will not ne able to build a 5th park and in the long run Universal will increase their market share.
Amusement parks always seemed like an economic sinkhole to me. On one had they can rake in millions or even billions of dollars. On the other, they can also cost millions to keep running. Especially if the park is expanding and adding new attractions. Now add in terrible management and hellish work conditions (long shifts and getting fired for the slightest upset) and you got yourself a recipe for a disaster.
Planned? I've heard how the corps do love to make things that quickly break down that should not break down so easy but I'm pretty sure that but for the rides that it's not that costly to maintain a park.
The issue is the corporate culture that has turned people off. Inside Out 2 is a one off and Deadpool3 is another kettle of fish. But until they consistently put out good family entertainment instead of propaganda then they will still struggle outside the smaller demographic they are aiming for.
Surprised geeky and kneon haven’t talked about the Disney vp just got caught basically trying to date a minor besides his leaked video on how racist he is for hiring people
Not really it’s just corporate greed in general, people and society are not giving them money for they’re bad attractions and bad movies except for they’re investors vanguard, blackrock, etc, etc, I don’t think Disney really cared about race or gender they just wanted the investors brownie points because they think it’s more valuable than money.
I was at Dland this weekend. I have been going since the late ‘60’s. The park was did not have many visitors at all. It was great for me! But this is a sign of things to come. Grifts like genie, reservations, all this nonsense on the app/phone does not make a visit enjoyable. Also I saw three male employees in dresses. Such an embarrassment. I remember when the berm was there to keep reality out. Now it’s unfortunately being shoved in my face. I do not want to see employees making social statements where ever I go as a customer. Since I have been so many times, I forgo all of that stuff and enjoy what I can when I want. Unfortunately I cannot avoid the reservation aspect of it.
Funny enough I do not see Epic Universe eating much of the mouse. And it's mostly going to be Marvel really. The government is SOOOO going to take the mouse first and then they will decide who gets what. After that's done what's, left will be reduced to mouse paste that will be sold to who is willing to take it off their hands. BTW; As strange as it sounds, I do suspect that a few IP will be getting the public domain arena.
Still won't change. Too many within Disney who can take Bob's position will keep ruining it. The board is not much better either. And I bet my squeedily spooch that somehow that FRUMPING HAGHRAVEN Kathleen Kennedy will take over Disney when Iger goes.
All I ask is when the last freefall finally hits the ground that it comically and magically leaves Mickey Mouse shaped hole for us fill in with all the dirt, they had swept under the rug for all these years.
@clownfish TV... look into that island, word on the street is: it's a bug infested nightmare complete with a loooong walk to get there, on cement, with no shade, and no benches. Yikes!
I wonder what would Disney do when the parks aren't bring it and the movies aren't bring it either, we also know that Disney plus doesn't bring it either!
@@StickySyrupEverywhere Then it comes a question of "Would you rather go to a theme park run by people who want to rip you off at every turn or take option B and go to somewhere nice and quiet with a genuine relaxed atmosphere with outdoor activities that are apart of the package and not spend all day trying to get onto rides and trying to figure out a app upon your phone that also trying to rip you off?? Me, I take option B as option A is the result of a board that would steal every penny from you and if they could would change you for simply breathing the air in the parks!!
They don’t really care about politics ether they just want they’re brownie points because they really think brownie points is more valuable than money. Think outside the box Bob Iger went to college, got indoctrinated, and was taught how to think. Kathleen Kennedy went to college, got indoctrinated, and was taught how to think too just like the people they hire.
People dont understand that the prices of things are never going back down. This inflation is deeper than we think. Those buying groceries are well aware that the real inflation is much over 10%. The increments dont match our income, yet certain investors still earn over $365,000 in stocks and assets. Wish I could accomplish that.
Very possible! especially at this moment. Profits can be made in many different ways, but such intricate transactions should only be handled by seasoned market professionals.
Some persons think inves'tin is all about buying stocks; I think going into the stock market without a good experience is a big risk, that's why I'm lucky to have seen someone like mr Brian C Nelson.
I heard stories of people "renting" a wheelchair user for a day to get some sort of advance in line. Horrible what we have become. Truly we live in a society.
Maleficent used dark magic as a Disney Princess villainess, and so did the evil queen in Snow White, yet neither one of them was cancelled. Oh wait...riiigghht, they can't be cancelled:they each hold an Infinity Stone of Wokeness, okay;my bad. 🙄
Well who could even wonder why they dropped. Can’t be woke remakes making things gey and lame for some mythical audience and not wanting to make things for the old fan base because the arrogance of thinking people will buy and consume no matter how bad they are, that and ped o indoctrination of normal peoples kids.
1/3 of Disney's income comes from it's theme park division. & there's signs that even that's not doing good due the drop in folks visiting due to high prices & better, cheaper alternatives. The more these stories go on, the more I'm glad Kneon sold his shares in Disney.
I cannot confirm, what I’m about to say, but I read that they were thinking about removing the hanging man from the haunted mansion attraction. In the elevator… I hope that’s just a rumor.
Bob and Kathleen Stole StarWars from George And bound it in a Graveyard The Money Be Ours Beyond the powers Where we will, we'll rule Yo, ho, all hands Hoist the Fandom high Heave ho, by these Thieves and Weirdos Or Faith will Never die. Yo, ho, haul together Hoist the Force high Heave ho, to these thieves and beggars, The Fandom shall Never die
Movies losing billions, Disney+ losing millions of subscribers, people stop going to the parks. The only thing that is barely afloat is the Disney Cruise, but Disney will find a way to messed this up too. Whoever has Disney stocks should dump now. As for Nike, they were really prop up by Air Jordan and other star powers, but most importantly they also used to make really reliably good sneakers. Now their sneakers break apart like Temu shoes. Also Nike with their talentless hires have made some really ugle sneakers while competitors are making great looking and reliable shoes. Nike is dying and no going back.
How did Disney stock crash? How about letting Bob explain the drop or how about we point it to the unbelievable spending on Marvel and Star Wars awful shows 😬
People knew how to MAKE things in the old days. These days, what you are seeing is not just disney rides, but EVERYTHING, cars, computers, machines, fast food, tools, services, roofers, ac, plumbing, no one has any idea how to do a job correctly.
Planned obsolescence - things aren't made to last anymore, they're made to be fixed or brake down so you buy a new one. When buying a new washer and dryer the salesman straight up said "yeah this will last ten years cuz that's all manufacturers make them last for" Kudos to that guy being honest about it.
I’ve heard that at least with some of the more modern rides a lot of it is the over abundance of safety sensors that cause a lot of issues. Some people are speculating that I’m the incident that happened recently in Oregon with the Zamperla disk ride was someone leaning on the gate. Causing a safety sensor to go off leaving people stranded upside down for 30 min.
With Tiana's i heard someone suggest part of the problem might be the difference in actuators. Newer stuff might be using electromechanical while the old ones used hydrolic or gnumatic. Electromechanical are more precise but also more delicate and break easier.
I also wonder about control systems.Modern "let's use a microcontroller for everything" has its advantages over old discrete logic, but has its disadvantages too.
@@TheLoneWolfling PLC's. Back when I was in college they were still in use ina a lot of industrial equipment. It was cheaper to keep using them than to replace e the equipment which was designed and built decades ago. Then again some of the equipment in that place still had reel to reel data storage ports.
Make sense since all of their video entertainment are soaring successes. Especially Star wars. Still never been to any of their Parks, never wanted to go and sure as hell never will at this point.
Travel is up for the Summer already. The fact of the matter is that the mysticism of Disnew World is totally lost on families now. From parents disenchanted to children having zero connection to Disney. Add on terrible recent experiences. I stayed at Disneyland Hotel a couple summers ago and went to Disneyland with my kids. I was so disgusted by the hotel (especially the service). My kids were so underwhelmed by the new Star Wars Land or whatever it was called and the cringe scenes and cos-play that occurred. I really examined, even looked through the merch, etc. It was just garbage! Then it appeared they changed Pirates of the Caribean and just made it worse!! It's like, I couldn't even take my kids through the classics. We couldn't wait (a father, an 8 year old daughter and a 6 year old boy) to get our way out of there. Even my original talking point about Disney about how "they pick up every piece of trash" was ruined as we stuffed the half eaten ice cream treats into the overflowed garbage cans....very much the same as we would do at the country fair.
Didn't Bob say LAST YEAR the parks were too expensive... Gosh... You'd think he would have foreseen then that making it Cost more with their stupid app, while destroying beloved rides would have been bad for the bottom line.
here in SoCal if you want entertainment you hit up Knotts. Disney is cutting shows, Rogers wasn't brought back and nothing is scheduled to go into the Hyperion. the Pixar Fest is horrible, show was canceled and food booths are horrible.
The parks have been the cash cow for years. Why would anyone be optimistic about them in the near future??? Universal is about to crush Disney World and they have nothing significant in near term coming. The economy is coming to a screeching halt and the cost of parks is now totally out of hand. Its game over for several years for parks. What will prop up this company??? I think most people can see the writing on the wall with pixie dusters being the only exception.
Looking at how contractors are limited to Buena Vista Construction reminds one of how the mob controlled construction and construction supply back in the day. So costs are high, but it is because it effectively pays back on itself. The grift over years make effective build outs less likely.
I don't know where shareholders get off being upset. This is exactly what they voted for by keeping Iger's inner circle on the board. I'm supposed to feel bad when they spurned a chance to make things better? Boo the damn hoo!
