The writer had a brother who died when he was really young. Peter was inspired by his brother so he could be a symbol of child like wonder and live forever as the little boy he was when he died.

I read somewhere, that James Barrie made Peter Pan ageless because his brother (that passed) will forever remain young in the memory of his mother. His mother will never think of his brother as a grown man, therefore, Peter does not age.

There is a theory that says that Peter Pan is actualy dead, and all the other people in Neverland are dead too. The Darling chirdreen are able to go to Neverland because they literally jumped out the window believing that they could fly, and it obviously didn't end well. But that isn't very Disney friendly. And there is a lot more information and explinations about this theory but I can't remember. But this one is very good too, I only think that the darkest theories tend to be more intriguing.

I heard something similar to that. The theory said that Peter was actually an angel, and that Neverland was a section of Heaven set aside for children.

yes but pirates coming after them?? idk if that'd be heaven what about reuniting w/ relatives/friends etc later on? even if their childhood friends die as elderly adults, would they become children again?
@sofiafeliciano3713
@sofiafeliciano3713 7 лет назад
oooh19 I'm not sure if that's heaven, it depends on your religion. Just because their dead it doesn't mean that they have to go to heaven or hell. And probably Peter only teams up with the children that go there, if you die an adult you probably apear there as an adult and vice versa.

Here's a notion.....I believe that Neverland (aka the second star to the right) is also the Wishing Star from Pinocchio and The Princess and the Frog. I believe the first time we see the Wishing Star used is when Geppetto wishes that Pinocchio become a real boy. We see it used again in the Princess and the Frog when Tiana makes her wish and when Ray the firefly dies, he becomes a star to join his beautiful Evangeline in the sky....and his star is on her LEFT side. Now hear me out....We know from J.M. Barrie's original story Peter Pan that the reason why Peter Pan ran away from home as an infant and journeyed to Neverland was because he heard his mother and father discussing what they wanted him to be as a man....and he wanted ALWAYS to be a little boy and have fun. And we know that Neverland is second star to the right and straight on till morning. So what if Peter made a wish too....that exact wish in fact that he would always remain a child and have fun....and the Blue Fairy granted his wish by creating his Neverland home so that he would never grow up? That is why his home is quite literally a star. Its just a thought.....

Regarding 0:43, in the book it is hinted that Hook doesn't age either. It is clearly stated, that Captain Hook was the bo'sun (petty officer) of Blackbeard (Edward Teach). Later in one of her stories, Wendy makes a reference to "London Station" which the earliest of which is London Bridge Station built in 1836. Now Blackbeard was killed in 1718 which means Hook would have to be 118 years old _minimum_ and since Hook is nowhere described as an old man he doesn't age anymore then peter does.

@GanonGhidorah
@GanonGhidorah 6 лет назад
I actually think the truth is a lot darker... In the original novel, Neverland doesn't seem to stop aging; the only one who doesn't seem to age is Peter. It's actually described that occasionally the Lost Boys that Peter recruits eventually hit puberty and start becoming men...and which point, Peter describes having to "thin them out"... This could mean anything from banishing them from the Lost Boys, leaving them no choice but to join Hook's crew - supplying Hook with his - or to simply having them murdered; probably dropping them 100m into Crocodile infested waters. It's why Peter has to occasionally go to London to "recruit" more Lost Boys...when in reality - let's face it - he's kidnapping them. My theory is, in Disney's version...Pan and Hook (and possibly Smee) have all had to make sacrifices in order to prolong their lives and attain at least a form of immortality. With Peter it comes from killing a few Lost Boys every now and then, and with Hook, it comes from (both losing his hand) and killing a few members of his crew. In a sense, Pan and Hook perpetuate the cycle, fighting a never-ending battle between the two of them, so that they can both live forever; Pan gets to live his fantasy of rebelling against a mean-spirited, good-mannered, but ill-tempered Adult, and Hook basically gets to live forever... I have a feeling that Hook eventually brought in Smee on the spell to grant him immortality as well, so that he'd always have a second in command and confidant to help keep things in line, as well as someone to talk to.

I like your theory. I personally like to think Terence from the Tinkerbell movies eventually runs afoul of some kind of magic that turns him human and wipes his memories. Tink chooses to stay with her best friend until he can regain his memory and maybe return to his true form, but he thinks her story is ridiculous and instead takes on the name Peter Pan and has his subsequent adventures with a frustrated Tink in tow.

I've often wondered if perhaps Peter was a Changeling and that Neverland was a part of Faerie (fairyland). Let me explain what I mean: Peter was taken to Neverland by Tinkerbell where he stopped growing. In folklore, fairy kidnappings are a common occurrence, particularly with young children. Also, normal/human time doesn't apply to Faerie; a kidnappe/visitor might think that they have only been there for a few minutes or days, when they've actually been missing for years. When they return they don't live for long because they waste away their days desperately pining for the delight and luxury of Faerie. This could maybe explain why Peter doesn't know how old he is and why he was so afraid of leaving Neverland and growing up. In Hook, he is shown to have a younger brother, perhaps that was the fairy doppelgänger that was swapped in his place.

@fransesca not quite. He adopted other boys later on in life that go by the names of the boys we know, 2 of which died (one being Peter). This changed his story of Peter Pan, to how his remembrance of the children bringing joy to his life like youth.

I remember reading that Hook and the pirates do age in Neverland, and I think the Indians do too, at least in the original book and play. Not a 100% on that tho. Seems every version of Peter Pan the rules change. But I seem to remember the kids in Neverland don't age because they are kids and the youthful spirit. Some versions, like Disney, I think just gloss over that and make everyone in Neverland not age, but I don't think that's how it works. I've always seen Neverland as a place for children and fantasy so when they are in Neverland, they don't age, but the adults still do. As for why Peter can fly, that's be debated too. In another video some guy thought that Peter himself can produce pixie dust which enables him to perma-fly. But I've always seen Peter as someone "special" in that he has such special abilities that are unexplainable - flight, strength, ability to mimic voices, not aging, etc. Not saying he's a god but he is very magical.

There's a book that I read in Elementary that was based around how Peter Pan came to be. I think it was called Starlight? I'm no too sure, but the boy in the book didn't go by Peter but it did have the elements such as pixy dust, pirated, fairy's, etc. It's been a while but I remember him having to hold this box that held a really special kind of dust and if you held it for too long, it can cause some damage. Of course he held onto it for so long because he was protecting it form some pirates. Anywho, he ended up being able to fly without dust and never age. I think that's where Tinker Bell came in. I believe she was there to help him adjust and protect him? I'm not so sure, it's been a while though, I thought you should know. Btw, I like your theories, you give so might evidence it's hard to prove it wrong.

While the forever tree is a good idea it is, sadly, not true... After the success of the first Tinker Bell movie, Disney released several short stories about the Neverland fairies. These stories all centre around one fairy and a life lesson. One such story (which I read too many times to count) was entitled "Beck Beyond the Sea." The story follows Beck, an animal fairy who wants to journey beyond the seas of Neverland, but can't because she can not fly fast enough. After seeking help from a number of fairies, Vida gives Beck a pouch of special Pixie dust that allows Vida to fly faster then any other fairy. The Pixie dust s made from a feather of Mother Dove. Mother Dove is the secret to Neverland. She is protected by the fairies, and is thievery essence of magic in Neverland. Mother Dove sits upon an egg, which never hatches. Mother Dove's egg is the reason the people of Neverland don't age. The story explains that if Mother Dove's egg were to be broken, then the eternal youth of Neverland would cease to exist, and all of it's inhabitants would begin to age. The story goes on, and Beck realizes the pouch of Vida's pixie dust has been weighted with rocks to try and get Beck as far away from Pixie Hollow, for as long as possible, because she is Mother Dove's favourite animal fairy. Vida plans on taking another one of Mother Dove's feathers for her special pixie dust. Beck returns just in time, and manages to Keep Vida from taking the feather, and spooking Mother Dove, thereby saving the youthful egg she sits upon.

@bravestraven4650
@bravestraven4650 Год назад
I’m 5 years to late to even mention this. But I’ll do it anyway. Now it’s probably only canon in the Disney fairy books. But it’s explained that the reason no one ages in neverland is thanks to Mother Dove’s egg. Mother Dove is a mythical creature whose egg prevents anyone on the island from aging. As long as she keeps caring for her egg, it will keep everyone young forever. But like I said, it’s probably only canon in the books. But it would be nice if there was a conformation that it’s the canon version.

I have an idea for a future video, or some things I’d like to point out that could be a future video. Is peter really a person? Or is he in fact a type or fairy or magical being? The pointed ears and the fast that he seems to be able to fly without pixie dust, and possibly his shadow, (which has the ability to deal away) could have something to do with it?

I have a theory: He was a Mean one and always wants to be a kid, his father wants him it grow up to be like him but Peter didn't want to grow up. In that night, his parents left to go to a party, Peter ran away and meets a Strange random man Aka the devil. He says to him " So you don't want to go up?" And he says yes, The devil Tells Peter to think about a land in above so he Called it never land. Peter goes to neverland. And sees a pirateship and everything, Mermaids and Pirates weren't their because The Pirates and Mermaids were actually kids because Peter turned them. And u may ask why Hook want to kill Pan? Well Because he used to be a kid and believed in neverland and went their then after that Peter took him home. Then when Hook got older He realized Pan was evil so he wanted to kill Peter but Peter send him back to neverland and Hook decided to become a pirate to have his own Army

In Both movies Hook did age but it doesn't look like it due to a magical flower. I don't remember what the flower was called but it's not the same as the one from Tangled. If you combine the flower with the forever tree then you never grow old and look young. Pan used both. Hook only used the flower not the tree. He grew I believe 7 years between both movies. Also 1 day in our world is only one minute in Neverland. So while yes you were correct about the tree you forgot about the flower and Hook and Pan and everyone else did age. It just doesn't show it. Hook did age because he was brought to Neverland as a kid and grew up and ran away.

I think that peter pan never grows up because he is dead and if he dies at 13 then he stays 13 thats why he never grows up and he takes dead kids to neverland which is heaven so basically wendy and her brothers were dead but I dont understand how they came back to their parents If they were dead(the lost boys got back to real life too)??if somebody knowss plss tell me cuz I hear this disney version theory everywhere...and one more question if neverland was just for dead kids then how did hook got there?

Strange thing, I actually had a dream where I was watching one of your videos. I guess i do that enough that my psyche decided it would be cool to have you there. and I was asking if you ever went to Disneyland. I was just asking questions to the screen. So I went on to tell you about a lunch date I had with John Musker-a few days prior (which really did happen). and you got mad and stopped talking to me). my dreams after that just got weird and had nothing to do with you. I learned some cool things from John Musker though. I'll have to tell you about them sometime.

I always thought that Peter stayed a child because he was based off of JM Barrie's older brother who died at age 14 and he was "forever a child" according to JM and his mother

He stays a child because he doesn't really exist. He symbolizes eternal youth and Neverland is in the minds of the children. It's all symbolism. Peter Pan does not age. And Hook is chased by a clock.......the crocodile symbolizes time and after Pan cut off Hook's hand and threw it to the crocodile, from then on Hook was a grown up. The croc had ready taken a piece of him. And that's what happens when you get older, you realize that time has already got a piece of you, and will eventually take you entirely.

I think Peter Pan died as a war orphan. They live during the time of bomb shelters(as shown in the 2nd movie)but of course his time may have been longer and more violent than that. He felt bad for the LOST boys because they reminded him of himself. He just wanted to have a fun and have a happy childhood but his life was taken at an early age; which is why he took them in away from reality. He also took Wendy to Neverland for this reason because she said she was going to be "forced to grow up tomorrow". Wendy chose to grow up so he returned her home, but the lost boys stayed by their own will. He is still a kind-hearted 12 year old boy in my eyes and Hook is the bad guy. Remember he kidnapped Tiger lilly and forced Wendy to walk the planks to her death.

CelandKaysisters btw peter pan is the bad guy the creator said it and even disney said it online and in a interview and hook is actually a good guy he used to be a lost boy and his whole crew escaped from peter pan is the bad guy the creator said it and even disney said it hook only did that cause he went crazy trying to stop peter pan from killing wendys family he takes people to never land and when they are at the mature age he kills them

i know that this comment is 5 years old, but i have to give my thoughts. peter has an american accent (and it sounds almost southern in the sequel). there were many wars in america in the 18th century, as they were seeking independence. perhaps he was killed (horrible, but they were very capable of that) or him ending up in never land was a way to protect him.

in the book I think he fell out his pram as a kid and spent enough time away from people he became a "betwixt and in between" so he literally can't die, thats why he doesn't age.
@ausomeaspie

The actual real reason is sad. J M Barrie's brother died the day before his 13th birthday so he was the boy who never grew up. But the Movie reason or why it is in thw story is probably this.

Peter Pan isn't a metaphor for our inner child he is a metaphor for our problems and how we deal with them. In the live action peter pan he wasn't always happy go lucky and optimistic. He had his turmoil too. He as a child that never ages has to find a way to deal with those problems. You can't solve problems by running away from them or acting like a spoiled brat. Despite technically never growing up, he did grow up, not in body but in mind. He takes care of the lost boys and specifically convinces Wendy to be their "mother" and tell them stories. He is more adult like than he thinks. Which brings me to the point of why? Why does he take care of the lost boys this way? It's because he wants them to have a family. Peter can't remember his family and never remembers having one. He is the oldest out of all the lost boys. Where I think Peter was abandoned by his parents. He takes care of the lost boys almost instinctually. He doesn't even know what a kiss is! He shows that even in the hardest times your inner child can help you solve the most complicated problems, he solves the problem of the lost boys by bringing in Wendy to tell them stories and make them happy, simply solution for a serious problem. I will warn this may get dark. Take suicide for example. It seems it would be easy, everything would be over, no one would care, in the movie Peter just gives up to hook until Wendy kisses him. Childish romance basically saved his life, simply because he felt there was a new reason for him to live. In his words "To live will be an awfully big adventure" each day presents a new challenges that the child's mind may not understand but solve the easiest. Adults over analyze thing and complicate themselves. Adults need to learn to act like kids more often. Kids don't always worry about the little things and when the big things come around they don't do it alone. Peter tried to solve everything on his own but hen realized he needed his friends to help him. Adults are stubborn and try to take all the burden on themselves, we all need to learn that there are people who are there to support us and help us when we have a problem.

I think he means the imagination of a child. We can't forget about the world's problems. They'll always be there. But imagination can make you forget about your troubles for a while, and sometimes, imagination can lead to inventions and solutions

so my family was in the truck driving to Erie and the song Peter Pan was on and I said "I would love to go to Neverland!" And my mom told me what neverland really was...she told me "Neverland is wher parents would tell their kids they would go and never grow up when they died" and I began piecing Peter pan together like how he doesn't grow up and how wendy and her siblings are able to go there so then I looked at my siblings (2 older brothers and younger sister) and said "So does that mean that Peter Pan and Wendy and her siblings are dead?" and my brother said "Oh my god!" And I said " i just made Peter pan really dark" and that's how our day went

Peter pan never grows up because he is a GHOST. He kills the children he has jump out of the window, they hit the ground, but he makes them believe theyre flying. The original story of peter pan was a horror. Disney just flipped it around and made it appropriate for children. The "Lost boy" nickname, was made bcus of the fact he's killing the children, taking them to his island and keeping their spirits there forever.
