Disney should be ashamed of themselves for taking away the magic by forcing everybody to look at their phones constantly. It's disgusting.

That is a big part of why I don't go anymore. (At least to US parks.) The system hasn't quite caught on in Paris, hopefully French culture keeps it that way. As for Japan, phones are basically for translating purposes and that's about it. Once again, the best Disney experience is the one Disney doesn't own.

I agree. I don't go to Disneyland to have to be dealing with my device all day long. The info isn't accurate either. I was with my brother in July and we checked Genie+ for Matterhorn times. His device said 4:30 pm. Mine said 10:45 pm.

@@dogg-paws Don't let the actions of some Parisians and President Macron paint the whole of France in a bad light. It would be like looking at New York or Seattle and saying America has nothing good to offer. There is a lot of good that comes from French culture, not the least of which is cooking. I can also confidently say that while Disney owns both the US and the Paris resorts in their entirety, the French Resort is a noticeably more relaxed vacation than either US park. Prices may be awful due to Disney HQ but the service is very friendly and polite. Also as mentioned before the resort is not molded around you being on your phone 24/7. (In 2023 I didn't even use it my entire stay. Things like reservations can be made in person and there was no need for app ordering anywhere else.) If nothing else that proves Paris is doing something right.

The only virtual que usage I felt was actually useful was for Hagrids Motorbike Adventure at Universal. Its long gone now, but when it was a thing, it was useful, as the average wait time was in the hours. CORRECTION!: La Reina overestimated her wait for the Peter Pan ride. She took 2 minutes to walk through the building, and only *6 minutes 45 seconds to actually stand in the line* (30-minute posted wait). She even commented that she didn't have enough time to appreciate it while she rushed through, "i hate going through here so fast 😆". @@ciberdude611 I mean, you aren't wrong. But Disney also has a duty to mitigate that. If the option is a long indoor line or an outdoor one they *should* favor the indoor one. But, that costs money, and requires creativity. So instead Disney is happy to let people line up outside in the sun with little umbrellas and fans to *attempt to* keep people cool. (They use the same strategy in California) It used to be that lines were built to be inside, Indiana Jones at Disneyland, Star Tours (and the adjacent overflow), Space Mountain, etc. The problem is Disney doesn't make lines like that any more and more so, Disney has done very little to maintain crowd levels on popular rides. (So 80% of rides have almost no line, 20% are several hours.) So even lines like Indiana Jones end up with people backed up outside for hours.

@@jonnym4670almost always for sure. I was there the first week all parks were open after the pandemic. While occasionally we did have to wait longer, That usually wasn’t the case. in terms of today, could be longer posted wait times be due to the fact that they want to sell more lightning lanes? We need Fast Passes back. Change my mind.
@ThemeParkZilver
@ThemeParkZilver 5 дней назад
Playing Iger's advocate here. (I also think they need to come back.) But, I'll make an attempt. I do want to mention this isn't Fast Pass vs. Lightning Lane, it is Fast Pass vs. nothing. (There is no defense for Lightning Lane.) Fast Pass was at it's peak back when they Kiosks were set up right next to the rides. The only way you could get one was by physically going to the ride. Many were distributed when people saw a long wait and wanted to come back later. Others were just people planning ahead for later during their visits. (At the cost of no more Fast Passes until later.) The benefit is instead of a really long line filled with people, some would come back later in exchange for a short wait. This keeps lines under control. Now the downsides... Those machines were set up at nearly every major ride, often 3+ for each. Those had to be maintained, along with the return time signs and the little tickets had to be restocked. (As well as often including attendants for confused guests.) All of this is an expense for Disney, and if you think Disney was just eating the loss out of the kindness of their hearts, I have a bridge for sale. Those costs would be passed on to customers, $1, $2, $5. Other things went up in price to cover that expense. *In theory* the cost saving from the removal of that version of the system *should* be passed onto customers, but let's be honest we all know they aren't. The other problem with all versions of the system is with an hour return window there was no way to control how many people return at once. The rolling return time helped but if it is 11am you could have people return for everything from 10am to 11am. Maybe that is nobody, or maybe it is everyone at once. There is little to nothing that can be done about that. Disney World would then upgrade their version of Fast Pass to something none of the other parks had. They incorporated the Magic Bands into the system allowing people to simply tap for Fast Passes. This could be done online or at a central Kiosk somewhere in the park. This in theory made things cheaper, though again guests would not get those savings. (Or maybe they do, who knows if Disney would charge *even more* had these expenses not been cut.) This system was fine and dandy while the Magic Bands were free with resort stay. But, once again that is a cost that is passed on to guests. (This time through room costs.) But, eventually you had to buy a Magic Band for $15+ just to access it. (Before they implemented phone codes.) The worst part though of the newer system is the fact that being at a Kiosk no longer was required. Even worse Disney let Hotel guests book Fast Pass days or even weeks in advance. All while maintaining a limited supply for guests. There were days I couldn't get a Fast Pass at 7am because they were booked days in advance. All on top of normal Fast Pass restrictions. The absolute peak of this failure I experienced in 2018 in Magic Kingdom's Space Mountain. The line was moving hilariously slow, so when we got to the merge point I actually counted how many Fast Pass went for each stand by. 70, that's Seven Zero were allowed from Fast Pass and even then it was only after I made a comment about the number we were allowed to pass... just my group. 70 Fast Pass for 2 Standby. It was bad enough that outside the 2-3 Fast Passes each guest got for the day it felt like being a second class citizen trying to get on a ride. (And remember Hotel guests are given priority booking too. Adding to the feeling.) All that is to say, the old system had flaws. *If* they brought it back it would need to be with revisions. Otherwise, it would be better for supply and demand to dictate what rides people wait for. IE. everyone waits in line no skipping. (Disney just hates that because if you are in line you aren't spending money, especially at Disney World.) Were it me, I would return Kiosks to each ride or at minimum each land. You can use phone or Magic Band tech to make the whole process just a tap. You wouldn't need many Kiosks in each location because the line should be tap and go. This means no advance booking, no getting passes by phone half a park away. Maybe you grant a single bonus Fast Pass to Hotel guests that is selected at check in. That I could be okay with. (With the downside being you won't know for sure which park you will go to which day, making it hard to change your mind. Well, if they ever drop the horrible reservation system that is.) They can keep the Lightning Lane infrastructure and just convert the digital part to free. The last thing they would need to do is control the number distributed, something they clearly lack at Disney World. The flow of guests should not impact the wait time of the normal line by more than 10-15 minutes. This is also easily achieved as Disney knows the per hour capacity of each ride. (Say a ride is 1800 per hour that's 450 fast passes max for that hour. About 112 or so every 15 minute period. or 75 every 10 minutes which I think used to be the intervals.) If that isn't enough Fast Passes it is a problem with ride capacity not Fast Pass quantity. (If that many people want to ride, increasing fast passes won't control the wait time.) So to recap, to bring back Fast Passes you would need to. Limit acquisition to a physical location, day of (or in limited amounts at start of stay at Hotel). It is okay to use phone or Magic Band to save some costs. (Phones people have, Magic Bands is a convenience cost.) Finally, the quantity distributed needs to be kept under control. If that can't be achieved it is better to have nothing at all. *Edit: Clock times were turning into timestamps, adjusted so that didn't happen.*

There is always manipulation of the guests, however at some point emphasis changed from a priority on the guest experience to a management style based on "management by math". It's the Starbucks Syndrome, Starbucks suffered when the founder released day to day management to graduates of an institution of higher learning. These "leaders of the future" promptly removed coffee grinding and roasting in the stores, more profit, additional elements of this master plan included removing the classic equipment with automated dispensers, firing baristas replacing them with someone who just hands them a cup. If you are not picking up what I am putting down, they took all the things that persuaded (manipulated) customers to pay 8 to 10 dollars for a cup of coffee away. Starbucks recovered when the founder returned, closed every store for 10 days, restaffed, retrained, re equipped the stores and expand the baked goods. Seems like people enjoyed the coffee cafe experience a great deal more than the value of the coffee being sold.

It does have cool seats, and the Tron theme is cool. Many of Disney’s most popular classic rides are technically coasters - Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain, Matterhorn, etc. The issue is that it’s too short, and the theming could be improved to make it more immersive. In short, it would have been nice if Disney plussed the WDW version.

I love this channel. Almost always 100% correct. However, I love the Tron coaster. It is a short ride, but it is unique, has a super fast start, is very well done with respect to the movie, and is just a blast. Even the lockers in the queue are done perfect (open both sides so those entering are not 'going against the grain' with those leaving). Tron being a walkon is, for me, one of the only reasons I would go back.

Was there day one of Standby only. This ride was NEVER a walk on all day long. I took two rides that day, one at park open and one at close. The early entry was 90 minutes total wait time. Once the park opened at 9am, the line was still a 70+ minute wait after that. Throughout the day, the lowest wait time was 45 minutes. The last rides of the night were 45 minute waits. Don't know what you saw, but nothing i personally experienced suggested this was a 30 minute wait on day one of Stand By.

I think Cosmic Rewind would get long standby waits, mostly because there aren’t that many attractions to do at Epcot compared to Magic Kingdom. Especially with Test Track currently closed. It’s like how Soarin’ consistently had the longest waits at Epcot for over a decade, before a 3rd theater was added. While Soarin’ is a good attraction, I do think lack of other attractions in the park was a factor for why its wait times would stay so high for that long.
@ThemeParkZilver

This seems correct. It is the same in Shanghai. Contrary to popular belief, the idea of a roller coaster is not the turn off of the ride. Shanghai has the Seven Dwarves Mine Train and Hong Kong has Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars, both have decent wait times between 60-90 minutes. Meanwhile, Tron is often a walk on except the middle of the day. I also want to emphasize this is in comparison to other rides on an equally populated day. (So it's not Mine Carts on a busy day vs. Tron on a not busy day.) If coasters were so hated in China they wouldn't be adding a Spider-man Coaster to Shanghai. No, you won't get Velacicoaster, or Hulk or other big coasters. But, you also won't get those in the US or Paris either. That isn't the type of ride Disney goes for and personally I'm happy for it. (I hate going to other theme parks and looking at half the rides as something I don't enjoy.) The point being, Tron was a dud from it's conception. Perhaps why China *allowed* Disney to clone it. (Because let's be honest, if Disney had the freedom to clone anything they wanted Shanghai's Pirates and Hong Kong's Mystic Manor would be somewhere else in the world already. Or plans for Zootopia, perhaps in an *Animal* Kingdom...) That said, supply and demand has a funny way of working even when that isn't what the company wants. Tron is a walk on and for a walk on wait, it is a great ride. I often rode it 2-3 in a row. But for a park struggling with keeping people busy, a ride that people will ignore when the line exceeds 15 minutes isn't what you want your newest biggest ride to be. Something else to note is while Shanghai has relatively few attractions, Magic Kingdom has many, many other options for guests. Meaning if anything Shanghai is artificially *inflated* compared to Magic Kingdom with people visiting just because they have less to do. And yes, Virtual Queue is designed exactly to hide ride numbers. Rise of Resistance, Tiana's Bayou Adventure, Spider-man W.E.B. Slingers, Remy's Adventure (The Epcot one, Paris remains relatively popular) It was obvious the moment they put it on Rise of Resistance what it was for. What I want to know is, can Disney get legal action because they artificially manipulated wait times for something they were charging money for. In short, hey these lines are long but you can pay to get past them, when they were only long because Disney mislead guests. There is no way that is legal.

There are two Tron movies. Soon to be three. The original. The remake. And a soon-to-be-released sequel to the remake. Tron is a great IP. That’s not the issue. Not to mention not everything in the park has to be a well known IP. Splash Mountain was based on an obscure IP and became the most popular ride in the park (before Disney destroyed it). The issue is having a good ride that is themed well. I like the Tron ride as a concept just like I like Seven Dwarves Mine Train as a concept, but in both cases, the rides are less fulfilling than expected.

Cosmic Rewind is one of the better new rides at WDW. It’s a fun ride with a good story. I wouldn’t say it’s extremely innovative. The roller coaster style is a spinning coaster, which you can find at other amusement parks. And in terms of immersion, other new Disney rides like Rise of the Resistance have fancier special effects. But as a whole package, it works and is a very enjoyable ride.

Just visited Disney this past August. Spoke to many cast members there two things I came away with. 1. They are horribly under staffed. And 2, the reason there are higher wait times ion rides that used to be walk ons is the change in fast pass to standby ratios meaning for example a ride that used to be 5:1 fast pass to stand by would now be a 20:1 ratio. The ratio depends on the ride but the ratios have change not for the better. I confirmed this with multiple cast members.

While some of these points may be true, they opened this to standby on a weekday just when the last of the rest of the US kids are back in school, kids here haven’t been in school for long enough for parents to feel to go, and being a weekday lots of people working. So park attendance around this time is lower to begin with. In addition- Food and Wine pretty much just started so there’s a little more attention to go to Epcot right now.

You're wrong about the coasters in China thing; in fact currently (as of 9/13/2024) there are 1,839 coasters either Under Construction, Standing But Not Operating (SBNO) or Open according the RCDB (Roller Coaster Database). For comparison the US has 922 coasters in those three states. Even if you ignore the stuff from 2017 on you have *THIRTY-FOUR PAGES* (25 coasters per page) of stuff that opened from 1984/1996 to 2016, the slight discrepancy is because the 1984 coaster (Ocean Park's Dragon) is currently SBNO, however it was open in 2016. So that's roughly 850 coasters of the ones still standing, this doesn't even count the ones that were removed since 2016. So no, coasters weren't a new thing, the OCT Group, owner of the Happy Valley parks over there had 9 parks at the time (now 18 open with 2 Under Construction). The only thing is that a lot of the coasters are Chinese knock-offs of models made by western companies, Jinma Rides is probably the most notorious example as they got kicked out of IAAPA (the E3 of amusement parks) in around 2012.

I was there at Disney World on the day that they say it was 30 minute wait times. It was consistently 70 minutes plus. Even right now at 11:55 AM the line is at 75 minutes. Which is average for usual big wait time rides. 30 minutes may be on there for rope drop or maybe some other reason. But I bet most of the wait times will be around 70 minutes on average for most of the day.

The light cycle was closed off in the movie and really if they wanted to make this an "experience", I would have done individual simulation cockpits. Is it less expensive? Maybe not. I guarantee almost everyone would have a better and more authentic experience.

Should have made a giant 'grid' room with the cue in air-conditioned comfort being the audience watching those before them ride. A light cycle bumper car type thing? Have it be a continuously operating ride where the individual cycles can be remote controlled by the system when its time for that person's ride to be over. They exit out portals around the room where the riders disembark, the cycles continue on to pick up a new rider and are sent through a portal back onto the grid. Once out there, the directions and speeds are up to the riders. Maybe even have multiple levels like the movie? Now that would be a cool ride and a good tribute to Tron Legacy. Daft Punk soundtrack all around. Cast members lit up as programs. They should be paying me a fortune for this idea.
