Hey guys, I’m back at Disneyland, checking out the Little Red Wagon’s famous corn dogs. The Little Red Wagon employees told us that their Disneyland Corn Dog recipe uses a chicken and beef hot dog as the base, and most Disney message boards have confirmed it’s the John Morrell brand.
#Disneylandrecipes #DisneylandCornDog #DisneylandCornDogRecipe
The Little Red Wagon is located on Disneyland’s Main Street, right beside the Plaza Inn. And most critics have confirmed it’s probably the best corn dog you’ll ever eat! Currently, Disneyland’s corn dog will set you back $9.79, which includes sliced apples or a small bag of chips.
If you can’t make it to the Little Red Wagon, they also sell corn dogs at Disneyland in the Stage Door Cafe in Frontierland, and Corn Dog Castle inside California Adventure Park. At Corn Dog Castle, you have the option to buy their “Hot Link” corn dog, which is just slightly higher price at $9.99.
Personally, I think it doesn’t matter what kind of hot dog you actually use, and today I’m using the Foster Farms Turkey Dogs for this recipe (since my wife doesn’t eat beef).
According to several nutrition sites, Disneyland corn dog calories are approximately 375, but I suspect it could be much more. But who's counting anyway? haha!
Disneyland Corn Dog Recipe - Hand Dipped Honey Corn Dog Recipe
Source: Jason Hill @ChefTips Copykat Recipe (We agree it's spot on!)
Wet ingredients:
1 egg
3/4-1 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons organic raw honey
Dry ingredients:
1 cup corn meal
1 cup flour
2 Tb. Sugar in the Raw
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Assembly:
8 hot dogs (Disney uses a chicken/beef mixture from John Morrell brand; We used Foster Farms turkey dogs for this video)
Wooden skewers or popsicle sticks
Vegetable oil for frying
Set your deep fryer to 375 F. (I said 350 in the video, but I found 375 is better).
Mix together egg, buttermilk, vegetable oil and honey.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Mix dry and wet ingredients together. Add a bit more buttermilk if needed to make it wet enough to dip the dogs in.
Fill a tall glass with the cornbread batter.
Skewer the hot dogs with a popsicle stick or wooden skewer. Spoon on more batter to ensure every part of the dog is coated in batter. The thicker the better!
Make sure your oil is 375F before dropping the dogs into the oil!
Drop into the hot oil and fry for at least 6 minutes, or until a nice DARK golden brown. You want that crispy crunch!
Drain on paper towel lined plate or platter.
Serve immediately with ketchup and yellow mustard.

If you want a more exact match they do double dip the corn dogs at Disney, you dip and fry, then dip and fry again, it makes a much thicker and crunchier coating.

HI Jason, I just made my own quarantine corn dogs with your recipe. They are AMAZING! My wife never orders her own at the fair but usually has a bite of ours....She said they tasted JUST LIKE the ones at the fair. My 13YO son SCREAMED when he took a bite! He's only allowed one per day under quarantine and only after chores are done LOL. My changes included doubling the recipe, using regular sugar and honey and cooking at 350 in my mini deep fryer and they came out perfect!! Thank you!

You could make this in pan with hot oil, but it does get tricky keeping the temperature at 350-375. Give it a try if you're feeling adventurous this weekend, haha! ;)

Very disappointed you used such a cheap dog for this. Even if you are feeding kids, use a good quality Nathans, or Hebrew National Skinless beef dog. It may take them a while, but eventually they will appreciate that you made them a great Corn Dog..

I watched a documentary on the little red wagon's corn dogs and found out that the batter that they use comes from a off the self box, just add water, dip the dogs and fry. Later on they decided to improve the recipe by using the best ingredients, but people complained saying that they just weren't the same, so they went back to the old method of using a premix from a box. We also have to take into account the oil that the corn dogs are fried in will take on a unique flavor from the other foods being cooked in the same vat. I enjoyed your video very much and plan on trying your recipe. 😊

Why not measure things in milliliters it's so much easier. If you did I doubt you'd have to add more milk because you'd have prepared the volumes. Yet you use an archaic system and that's what's happens. Also why not degrees Celsius? I can't say this was replicated as the texture seems too different.

Disneyland corndogs are SO greasy. I learned the hard way that I just can't take all that oil. I can see why some people like them, but I prefer the more "corn bready" type. Mustard/ketcup mix is the way to go as far as eating them is concerned. Nice vid.

I read that if you dry the dogs after removing them from the wrapper, and then coat them with a dusting of cornstarch or flour before battering, it helps the batter to stick better. Haven't tried it though.

I also used America's Test Kitchen Gluten Free 1:1 Flour Mix. The batter changed from thick to runny to thicker so we adjusted as needed. We also like the batter a bit sweeter so we added a bit more sugar. They deep-fried fine in a pot on the stovetop. Will definitely be keeping this recipe.
