With me being a very simple cook I in turn tend to cook very simple meals. I always watch these and say hey I could make that but I never do.... Until today. I manned up and took my list to the store and got all the stuff to make both style corn dogs. They were a smashing success... I feel like my rather simple chef self evaluation has shot all the way to where I feel like I could run a line at a Michelin star restaurant. This is an exciting high I'll enjoy it while it lasts. Thanks for this and now I'll start doing other recipes and maybe even get that cookbook. The sky is the limit, thanks for the boost Josh and corn dogs.
Korean corn dogs are soooo good when covered in granulated sugar and dipped in ketchup and mustard! It sounds weird but that's how I had it in South Korea and it was amazing.
truee, when i made some at home i tried doing that even though i didn't think it would taste good cause I'm super picky and don't like sweet and salty food, but it was so good that i had to admit it makes the hot dog taste heavenly!!
It actually doesn't sound weird after all ketchup contains sugar anyway lol if it was vegimite/marmite then it would be weird as that stuff is gross lol
@@AaronW-ww4ds unless you have it on toast with only a lil bit and more butter then vegemite, than its good. Unlike you americans who just smother it...
I had korean corn dogs rolled in sugar, and korean sandwiches that had sugar too. I thought it was too sweet for my tastes, but I understand the reasoning due to the yeasted dough.
I just made these!! Both American and Korean and they were FANTASTIC. Korean corndogs are PHENOMENAL. I never thought they would be THESE good. And the sauce really elevated the taste so much!!
Look I'm from Seoul and these hot dogs (yes they are called hot dogs, not corn dogs in korea) are EVERYWHERE. When I had a Korean hot dog for the first time it tasted like nothing compared and these are only a few cents on the streets. And josh u nailed it my guy Edit: Thanks yall for 1000 likes. Most amount I ever got in my life 😆🤣
A vlog of Josh in Seoul trying all the street food things would be so fun to watch. I would be so jealous! Wish I could go back. Best street food ever.
If I made the korean corndog, I would probably cut the cheese and sausage into bite-sized pieces, and then alternate them on the skewer, so you get a more balanced experience of cheese and sausage. Then again, maybe that would make the bits lose integrity so they'd fall apart in the oil.
They won’t fall apart but what I found is that there will be little gaps where you don’t get either. We found it was best to do the original half and half
It's a pretty accurate koreadog. My only particular criticism having had these from Seoul. They don't really do a super fancy sauce for the dog unless it's in a particular restaurant ((Yes, Korea idolizes hot dogs so much you can end up getting them in an extravagant restaurant.)) They intentionally will leave sauces separate and drizzle it over. Usually a combination of ketchup + mayo + mustard. A lot of the "carts" will do the halfsies, but my personal favorite korea dog hailed from this . . . I just want to call it a truck stop? It had tons of little food shops all over the place. Instead of doing a half and half, they essentially created multiple segments so it'd be like sausage, mozz, sausage, mozz, sausage, mozz. I don't know what else they did, but it was a truly phenomenal dog. Regardless, the replication was pretty accurate. Korea food is pretty delicious and simplistic and always worth giving a try.
Korean corndog(aka hotdog) were not much different from American one, except that they had the corndog with fries. However, most of stalls used to sell those street foods are now gone. I don't know the exact reason, but maybe due to fine dust, covid or popularization of food delivery.(or b/c people's perception on street foods are changed) Some of the good ones are manage to survive and became a franchise of their own, specialized in those street foods items. That's why they become fancy now, because they are not street food anymore(at least those on the video). Well, they are delicious either way, so I have no complaints.
Yup, this gochujang mayo sauce recipe seems derived from popular online fusion recipes and maybe Western franchise restaurants who offer it. I can see it being offered at South Korean restaurants outside of common street food stalls though.
@@nom928 Yeah it's a pretty Americanized thing. The one he created would be something more commonly found in "Army Tourist Trap" land with all of the Korean BBQ stalls and the like. The deeper I went into Korea the less American it was. AKA, no English translation, a lot of your interactions are pointing and nodding lol. The month I was there was definitely worth it.
I just made the Korean corndog recipe and it was so good ! I tried other recipes and it didn't turn out right but this one did will be making these often now
Ah yes. The Korean corndog truly is divine. I tried one once and it changed my life. I think of those korean corndogs anytime I have american corndogs. I tried to spread the word but I don't have the widespread reach. Luckily we have food youtubers like Joshua here. Really, if you love junkfood like pizza, burgers, corndogs, then a Korean corndog will be the best junkfood you will ever taste. I guarantee that.
@@Ahglock I’m like a grown woman who is obsessed with certain childrens food like fruit snacks and lunchables AND American corn dogs. They’re so so so good! I can’t wait to try Korean corn dogs! I wonder which one I’ll prefer most!
The first time I had a Korean corn dog I was in Harajuku, Japan. These are delicious and I am so happy I know how to make them at home now! Edit: I got them at a Korean street food vendor on the corner of takeshita street in Harajuku. I was an exchange student and my host sister actually had bought it for me before I could say no. Needless to say I enjoyed it because I am going to be making these all the time!
@@kingatlar7036 it was a Korean street food stand, it's like saying since I got french macarons in the united states they must be American macarons. It's they way that they make the type of food that makes it special.
He's actually right about Korean style corn dogs changing your life man. There's a Korean place near me called Bang Bang Chicken and ever since I had that potato corn dog from heaven, I can never stop thinking about
I was only speaking to my son this morning about finding a restaurant that does these and finding a recipe to make them and then this video drops 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
@@Shane3599 thank you although I we don’t have fried food to much (I would always rather grill, but it’ doesn’t always taste the same 😩🤣) but we do like to try new things occasionally.
I'm in Australia and I never thought I'd had/seen one, but apparently I have! They're called Dagwood Dogs here, they're always at carnivals and theme parks but I never knew it was a corn dog.
You convinced me to go eat a Korean corn dog. I was like eh, it’s just a wiener on a stick with some cheese. No… it is so much more than that. And now I know because of you. Will get that next time as I do have a Korean corn dog place that just opened up near me.
Useless trivia, in Australia we have “Dagwood Dogs” at fairs, they’re made with a wheat based batter, corn dogs are also sold at takeaway shops but they are sold as “Pluto Pups”
Yes! I made the mistake of trying a Korean hot dog. New spot opened up, first in my country, so I had to try. I spent the next few weeks trying to recreate it at home. At least 7/8 times until I told myself to stop obsessing 🤣😭 Watching this video just started the cravings up again
Korean corn dogs are on another level, i live in arizona and theres a place called Two Hands corn dogs here and they have the best corn dogs ive ever had, one has potatoe cubes on the outside and has hot cheeto dust on the outside its amazing
It seems like it would be better to alternate the sausage and cheese four or five times instead of half and half. That way, you'd get dog and cheese with every bite!
That would be nice if it worked, but you might end up with some 'defects' meaning some of the chunks might not be skewed properly and could fall off while putting batter on (it's pretty thick so that can happen) Plus it takes more time to make which means the price would go up (if you are buying one on the street) Still worth to try it at home I think.
That's exactly what I was thinking, getting both dog and cheese would be much better. To solve the structural issues the other comments are talking about, I'm thinking wrapping the dog in multiple slices of cheese before dipping it, or dipping it very softly in just the wet batter and then rolling it in a tray of grated cheese, then dipping it again in the batter and onto the potatoes and panko. Might just work as the dog would still be sturdy enough to hold the whole thing together while frying.
Actually went to Korea and had a bunch of street food, including a corn dog, and it was the weirdest experience. The hot dog was definitely different (maybe made out of fish or something? Idk still good) and the batter had actual kernels of corn in it. After it was fried, it was rolled in granulated sugar and drizzled with ketchup and mustard. Really tasty but totally different than this and totally different than any American corn dog
a better way to do the Korean dog is to chop the hot dog and cheese into thirds or quarters and layer them on the skewer. Cheese, dog, cheese, dog etc.
I honestly think my favorite thing about your whole channel is the sheer evolution of it. The earlier videos feel more like tutorials, where you explain how to and provide little tips. Now you have embraced the memes and are full blown fan servicing your audience without lacking in the how to and tips. Seriously, I appreciate the shit out of you man, keep up the classy content.
My mom looked at this video, and she is a korean. She LOVED this recipe except for the fact that korean hot dogs you dip it with sugar as a topping. idk if big papa Josh did, but NICE
@74 Rowe whereas they are not Korean, streetfood is more broad term and not limited to pizza burgers and hot dogs. Also Koreans cook them way better at this point as American standartes have degraded over time. Finally, Burgers and Hot Dogs are German and Pizza is Italian. I don`t know what kind of cultural appropriation you are talking about. You need to learn the basics before tjrowing such comments DAWG
He is correct. I had this at a place in Atlanta last week and it’s seriously amazing. I didn’t get the one with potato, but I’m sure it just makes it even more amazing. It’s like a funnel cake wrapped around a mozzarella stick lol doesn’t sound that good, but it’s amazing.
Yeah I’ve tried these with different recipes and you really have to work fast on that batter or it separates from the dog before it reaches the Panko. Love these!!
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 Bruh I aint gon cap I am vegan but I respect ppl who be eating animals because for them its food not for us tho U dont gotta be so rude ppls like u make Vegans look like bitches yfm
@@mukhirr1438 I’m not a vegan; I am a 30 year long vegetarian. And I really don’t give a crap about how you think I make vegans look. I have just much of a right as anybody else to express what I think. And by the way, there are plenty of foods that don’t come from an animal that I think are gross too. As a vegan, you are the one that comes off looking like a “B“ for attacking someone that calls out meat for being nasty. I’m pretty sure vegans are all about animal rights, and their intent is supposed to be about defending animals. You obviously don’t give a shit. A vegan saying that they “respect“ people for eating animals is literally an oxymoron. I bet you aren’t even a vegan, and I find it suspicious af that the very first comment you’ve ever left on this video was to attack someone for saying meat is gross if you actually were one (as well your second post of the only two comments that you have posted on this channel).
Dude, I was watching you on loudspeakers and then this 7:40 came, Thank you for everything Joshua, I will meet you again when I buy decent pair of headphones.
Corn on the cob but instead of the corn bone, it’s a hotdog: something Jenna Marbles tried to do and I suddenly have the urge to see Papa Josh attempt it 😂 Edit - I’m afraid edited stills from this video will end up on the Reddit page 🙈
So, yeah. Just made the Korean corn dog this weekend and I understand now. Holy cow, I think I have to use this sauce for literally everything though. It's so good!
I adore corn dogs. I of course want so bad to have a Korean dog. Honestly used to think the little potatoe cubes where cheese...... and honestly they should be. Multiple types of cheese. Mozzarella on the inside, Feta maybe, on the outside. Now I will have to make these since you so generously provided ingredients and instructions.
Easily my favorite episode so far between this and the chili cheese dog one. As a texan that used to go to fairs all the time this is my freaking childhood. I don't have the culinary expertise to make nearly any of the things he makes but I'd absolutely pay if he ever opens his own place. You should totally do some homemade pork'n'beans soon since you have all those dogs saved up!
The mix is a bit thick even with another 100ml of buttermilk. I just added a good dollop of whole milk until I had the right consistency. First time trying them. Tried regular hotdogs and good quality frankfurters and the Franks were by far the better, smoked too. Loved them, that crunch was great. Big tip, wait for the oil to heat back up to 350 after cooking a few or else you might end up taking more than 5 mins to cook and it goes a little soggy.
Please do a but better for nacho fries!! I love them, and you could do more than just those fries, like all the fast food fries since they are worth just one video. Please🙏🙏
a quick tip from a former fryer at a k-dog restaurant: you can actually squeeze the potatoes nice and tight to your batter so that you won't lose any potatoes on the coating and you batter should not be really wet
Would be so cool if you could do some classic german Bratwurst, like a really coarse one thuringian style I‘m from Germany by the way and I’m loving your videos since three years now
I'm here because I bought frozen korean corn dogs for the first time today. I ate two in the evening, then another one, now another in the middle of the night. I agree it changed my life. I got out of bed for it.
I am one of Josh's most fervent and loyal fans. He nails cooking techniques, and even after being a passionate home cook for almost 40 years, I always learn something from his videos. With all that said, what's with the proliferation of "All Things Junk Food, only Better" videos? His Sourdough Bread is now my go-to recipe so there still lots here for me. I'm not asking for Julia Child redux, but Corn Dogs? What happened to his killer home cooking for the everyday table? I'm just a loyal viewer asking for less Junk Food Squareoffs, and more of his skillful and great home cooking . . let the flames begin.
I made these using this recipe (minus the potatoes and panko) and it was AMAZING!!! However, if you want more flavor, add more sugar, salt, or even some honey to the batter. Hell, even other seasonings! The cheese pull was great and I would make again.
I hope you guy enjoy various korean special corn dogs~~ Actually, there are so many different types of corn dogs, and this is a kinda basic style ~~~~♡♡맛있겠어요
my school always served corn dogs with breakfast sausage for breakfast lol.. it was so good. dip in maple syrup. i literally havent touched a corn dog since graduating but i kind of want to make them now
