Omg I remember riding this when I was really young. Scared the SHIT out of me back then. But the orange and white bobsled cars were ICONIC. Idk why they changed them.

The ride is slower than a typical roller coaster. There has been a death on the ride, and it was from someone falling out where there is a large dip (henceforth called Dolly's Dip), but nobody has been decapitated.

I went on this ride at the age of 4 and I was amazed by it. I remembered that the yeti appeared about 150 feet to the left and only once. I went on it for the second time when I was 10 and it scared the shit out of me. The eyes, the yeti being so close and appearing twice were not how I had remembered it from when I was 4.

I'm glad that there aren't any major drops that give you butterflies in your stomach. I'm highly afraid of those. And by the way Disney, please make this ride more smooth. I get whiplash every turn.

Also the fact that Expedition Everest is themed like the place where the Yeti is said to actually reside; Mount Everest, Tibet. The Matterhorn is in Switzerland and doesn't actually have anything to do with the Yeti, Walt just wanted a ride themed like the Swiss Alps after he went there on vacation.

I remember slipping down in my seat when going UP because of what was in there! It took me the rest of the ride to try and sit back up, but that made the ride even MORE fun~!

Good bye classic matterhorn! Hello current extremely toned down version of the matterhorn.. (I hate the new yeti & the new bobsleds. It made the ride slower & less thrilling.)

I haven't been on the Matterhorn with the new effects, only seen it in videos, but I was very disappointed in seeing many of the new effects. I think I like the idea of the crashed bobsleds, but I loved the crystals. (I donno, maybe they could have shown the bobsleds crashed up on the crystals or something, like saying the expedition found some kind of forbidden treasure?) And the Yeti's new scream, so watered down and generic, nothing like the thrilling iconic scream of the original that made the ride so memorable.

@Wild Coyote93 are you sure? Because I heard they made it more thrilling. Perhaps when you rode it after the update, you went on the opposite, slower side. Or you just had higher expectations.

Come on Disney, let's get back to the old 2 seat bobsleds and make it more comfortable and enjoyable again. The current 3 seat bobsled is a major pain for anyone over 6 feet tall. The old 2 seat one was perfect!

after going to disneyland like 5 times i finally went on the matterhorn. i used to think it would be scary (track layout wise) omg i cant believe i was afraid of that ride, embarrassing to think about it now. same thing with magic mountain, i always heard it was fun. now its my favorite ride of all time even compared to mega steel track coasters ive been on. its definitely a treat to experience.

I remember going on vacation to California one time I was about seven I think, we had one day to go to Disneyland and I remember getting there and just staring at the mountain all day. @BerryBomber2 No. Just based off of Matterhorn Mountain. The ride was conceived by Walt Disney after various trips to the Swiss Alps where he was amazed by Matterhorn Mountain. He hoped to somehow create an attraction that was based off of this. That's partly how the Matterhorn ride came to be.

Considering that Matterhorn Bobsleds opened in 1959, was the first tubular steel roller coaster in the world, and is in a family theme park, I think it's doing pretty good in terms of speed. Go ride Expedition Everest if you want a similar but faster experience.

Yes, there are two tracks, each with its own layout. This is the Tomorrowland side, which queues closest to Tomorrowland. The Fantasyland side queues in Fantasyland.

Not a thrilling ride, but it's still fun. I recommend it for ages 7+, not because of speed or drops or anything but the yeti might scare kids a bit. The speed of the ride is pretty slow.

no, it doesn't have a lot of drops. in fact, there aren't any drops. unless you count that one at the end, but it's not really a drop, you feel NOTHING trust me this is the best ride ever! don't be afraid to ride it! xx

The darkness is what makes it feel faster. Kinda like space mountain. Did you know space mountain really isn't going that fast? But it feels like your FLYING through that ride at like at least 50mph. The complete darkness & fans blowing at you is what tricks your mind into feeling like your moving much faster then you are.

This closed back in January for referbishment. I was there the day before it closed and was on of the last people on it. All they are doing is putting in new ride vehicles, some referbishment to Harold, and referbishing the outside of the mountain.

This ride was built in 1959 and was the first steel roller coaster. Of course a ride built in 2006 would be "way better" to many people. I enjoy both so I wouldnt say either is better just because you can't really compare them besides being a mountain coaster.

2 people actually. One stood up and hit his head and fell to his death. (he landed on the sidewalk below.) The other one the ride malfunctioned and crashed into a wall. Everyone had at least one injury. A 47 year old women later died at the hospital from her injuries. They refurbished it. (Both of these deaths were from more than 20 years ago I believe.)

Expedition Everest is pretty much new and improved version of this ride. Expedition Everest has more of a storyline if you know what I mean (lost on Mount Everest with a Yeti on the loose). Both great rides but I would have to say Expedition Everest is more fun.

I remember I fell off the seat on this ride when I was 3. My mom was too busy enjoying the ride that she didn't even notice me on the floor the entire ride.
