Are universities preparing graduates to thrive in the real and diverse world? Andrew Fa’avale explores the perils our communities face if educators disregard diverse and traditional knowledges, as well as the potential solutions that valuing diversity can offer our communities in these times of unprecedented disruption and change.
If variety is the spice of life, then Andrew Fa’avale must love spices.
Andrew has worked as a mediator, practiced as a lawyer, played and coached rugby, worked with young offenders and is currently employed as an equity practitioner and researcher at QUT. These roles have blessed him with the opportunity to live in a diverse range of places such as Samoa, England, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, New Zealand and Australia.
Outside of work, Andrew co-founded MANA Community Mentoring Inc., a community organisation that seeks to foster the strengths, abilities and options of youth for positive engagement in the community.
Andrew Fa’avale is a Samoan by blood, Kiwi by birth and Aussie by choice
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Truth brother. Lets not forget in the early days we had a thriving culture with truth, values and knowledge systems. Then Christianity arrived.... invaded, occupied and subdued.
