This theme was a masterpiece and hearing this at the end of my first phantom liberty completion had me crying so hard.

@@grimscriven SPOILERS!!! TURN BACK IF YOU HAVEN’T COMPLETED PHANTOM LIBERTY!!!! YOU’VE BEEN WARNED ⚠️⚠️⚠️ Yeah, killing Reed and then sending her to the moon left me so empty. To be honest, all of the endings would’ve left me that way but having to end things that way hurt so bad. I genuinely like Reed AND Songbird so seeing either of them go just sucks.

Once you finish the expansion, you feel it. They were telling you the entire time with the composition, and as you complete each subsequent ending it only drives the nail deeper. How night city takes and takes, chewing and spitting out any naive gonk who decides to step into it. I liked the original game and story but Phantom Liberty was the where they perfected its storytelling and narrative.

They went full blown spy/espionage thriller, they even made their own Bond theme. My dad, who is a really big James Bond fans, even said that the song really reminds him of some of the recent Bond themes and if I didn't said that it's from the game, he would think this is for a new Bond film.

That "I'm just tired of looking the other way" line always hits me no matter how many times I hear this song. I'm not exactly in a position to do much about what's happening in the world, but fuck, I am tired of turning off the news, clicking off the article, looking the other way.

I'm glad that I waited until i rolled credits on Phantom Liberty before finally listening to this song. It's good in its own, great even, but with the events that happened leading up to it (in my game, a triumphantly pyrrhic melancholic "victory") coupled with the incredible Bondian end credits, it just hit an incredible other level for me. Emotional association is a hell of a thing. Have you listened to the track 'Let You Down' that Dawid composed for Edgerunners, Marco? It's also incredible, and hits like a truck everyone it comes on my playlist.

Im playing this DLC for the first time right now actually, and I love all the homages to the spy/espionage genre. From the high political stakes to the fancy parties to even the inclusion of the Mk23 (famous for being the MGS gun) to this theme that could 100% be a Bond song.

You should really check out the game's ending theme, Never Fade Away. There's two versions, one is a rock version by Refused and the other version is a haunting, emotional rendition that plays in the end credits. It's powerful.

The pull back right at the end hits so hard. All the instruments are gone, leaving just a lone voice asking "who are you now?" And then the screen fades to black and you have to look at your own reflection in the monitor. Who are you now, indeed.

One of my favorite things, is about cyberpunk is their way to tell a story through music, or rather reinforce it. It's crazy, how well they do the music. What got me the most about this soundtrack is it has such a different feeling after you beat the DLC. When those credits start to roll, it's so haunting. What's crazy is, Edge Runners shows the grind and the climbing of the ladder from just a no body. Martinez trying to reach the top, it shows that it doesn't how much chrome you got, you can go out at a flick of a light switch. Cyberpunk 2077 goes to show that no matter how high you are up on the ladder, you're never safe. There's danger around every corner you look and the /amount/ you have to sacrifice to get there isn't a simple weight in eddies. That Sacrifice can go in vein and all of it just washes out once you make it to that 'big league' everyone talks about who's there to share the glory with? Chances are all who you worked with are dead. The DLC, Phantom Liberty though is the scariest and most deep in my opinion, V always had luck meeting and making friends. The path was much easier, he had a direction. But in Phantom Liberty? You're at a crossroad, and that light-switch is around anytime. You're in a belly of a beast that the people that are your allies in that DLC are such in a high place, will they just toss you in a dump again? You're always on edge, on a seat of a rollercoaster that you end up listening to each word someone says, and when it's time to make the big decision. It's impossible, there is no foundation, no right answer almost. Even Johnny, has no clue what path is right. But he knows, you're wading in a creek that you can't see your feet in. Like as if you're in a whirlpool trying to keep everything from going down. And with the relic? Only adds more 'Ticking Time-Bomb' feelings. You can't dig your nails in to anything to hold you down because at the end, your /survival/ is what matters. Everyone seems to have an idea, but just nothing feels right. Phantom Liberty also shows my personal favorite enemy/antagonist. Not the gangs, not the corpos, or your street hoodlum. It's the tech. The | BLACK WALL | and you learn pretty quickly, you're just a small gear in a machine, under a lot of pressure. They did so good showing the unseen enemy and as a Cyberpunk fan, I'm just so thankful they dug more in it. The lyrics hit it perfectly, "Be careful with your moves." I'm so happy the company stuck with it, and pulled it back out. They did marvelous and I will always be a loyal fan for CP. I can't wait for the next Cyberpunk game, and I hope they take all of this emotion, music, and everything and put it in to the next one. I couldn't imagine what'd it would be like. I'll tell you one thing, just like 80% of the people here in the comments. I cried in the credits too. The game just did something so crazy.

Thanks for this awesome analysis, I was hoping you would do it for this song. For the vocal technique, I find it feels more like a cry than singing making me almost crying myself (and maybe because I played the whole game and the different endings so I know what it's about...). Thanks again !

Thanks for the video on this phenomenal theme. I do feel like this song resonates the most after you finish your playthrough of Phantom Liberty and, regardless of the choice that you make at the end, this theme hits you right in the heart. I chose the PL "new ending" and the finality of it all just made the whole playthrough of the expansion unforgettable and bittersweet. This was on the level of Ending E's final song Weight of the World in Nier Automata for me.

My gosh this gave me chills. I wasn’t expecting this. I played a lot of cyberpunk a few months ago and I’m nearing the end. Now I need to get back into it. Definitely a Bond vibe. Reminds me of the Bond song that Radiohead did but wasn’t used. I’m really keyed into any horns used like this ever since my son started playing trombone for high school marching band. I appreciate that sound so much more now. This was great, I can’t wait to share it with him. Thank you 😉

I'm sure this is gonna be a bit niche, but Davaid's performance in this always reminds me of Woodkid (Yoann Lemoine) in how they sing - beautifully melancholy, drifting up and down in pitch in a way that feels on the edge of discordant, but flows perfectly. Beauty in a harrowing way, a feeling of pain to come or to resurface

7:16 that "It ends right here right now" part made me slide off my chair with how well it accompanied the credits scene where Kurt Hansen placed down his chess piece against Myers. It just felt so grand and chilling at the same time. The whole song is a masterpiece, left me staring at the black screen afterwards, feeling hella empty.

Phantom Liberty is the ultimate cyberpunk-ish James Bond experience. the Theme, the expansion, is something else. Simply heartbreaking, beautiful, melancholic, this song is turned into my favorite ever, not only because is cyberpunk, but because its beautiful. Dawid just nailed it. He deserves the world

This ending theme is really cool. It reminds me a lot of the more downbeat and downer endings in the James Bond series. Also hitting people with a well done theme like this after the ending is a really great way to kind of force that weight to sink in emotionally. Again its a very James Bond kind of strategy.

Im sorry i just cant finish this game, i have so many other titles to play that pull me away. This game just feels like its trying soooo hard to be meaningful, but i just dont have any connection to V or Johnny. Its a shame because I just cant muster the patience to sit through the walking/driving simulators anymore. As for the song, its emulating Thom York from Radiohead. All the sounds behind the music, its dripping with Kid A energy.

This is an odd take for sure. V is pretty much just a self insert with a few flourishes, and having a connection with Johnny seems like the least important thing in the game. Their relationship progression is just a side piece. The overlying story/worldbuilding is what keeps me hooked, along with the combat system which is phenomenal in terms of build variety, it probably has the most diverse builds you can have while still maintaining balance (somewhat).
