His Majesty's Tenth Regiment of Foot in America is a historically re-created infantry unit formed to portray the service of the British Army during the American War for Independence.
Composed of three types of soldier, Grenadiers-typically larger men who are used as shock troops, a company of Light infantry, generally smaller, more agile men--capable of maneuvering in the dense wilderness to skirmish or flank the enemy, and a battalion company--a company of regular soldiers, capable of mass volleys and were the heart of the army and are trained in both Grenadier and Light Infantry tactics. We also have a company of Music, who provide music and commands to the army. Last but certainly not least, a Corps of Civilian Volunteers--who provide food to the regiment during encampments and accurately portray civilian and camp life of the 18th century. Each is open for recruitment. The members of the Tenth are accurately uniformed, equipped, and trained in 18th-century military drill and life so that we appear in public as members of the British Army would have in 1775. Good job, though I would maybe have added the musicians and their own rank accoutrements.

Great video. Among the officers, how do you distinguish between an Ensign, Lieutenant, Captain, Captain-Lieutenant, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel and the General officer ranks?
@HM10thFoot
@HM10thFoot Год назад
Hi Tina, great question! All officers within a regiment (up to Colonel), regardless of their rank had the same uniforms. Different companies had slight variations on distinguishing rank, but all officers within the company would have the same uniform. (Ie. Grenadier Officers had two epaulettes vs Battalion Company's one). Once you got to field grade officers, a Major General would wear a coat faced in royal blue with gold lace, while a Brigadier General would typically wear his regimental officer's coat as these were sometimes temporary positions. Hope this helps! Glad you enjoyed and thanks for watching!

@@HM10thFoot So I guess the only way to tell would be asking them... that could lead to some major mix-ups and officers artificially changing orders by lying about their rank.

Sgt looks like he doesn't want to be there or embarrassed. Be proud, I wear an M41 Parsons jacket with 6th Cavalry Group patch. Cav Recon (Mecz).

Great video! One question I have is what is the protocol for walking sticks among the officers?
@HM10thFoot
@HM10thFoot Год назад
Hi Michael, great question. Walking sticks were popular amongst the civilian population at the time and considered a very fashionable item. Thus, most officers would have one. There is documentation supporting their ownership by army officers, however, it was not a duty item. Thus, on parade, an officer would not carry one--only his issued accouterment (either a polearm or fusil.) The officer in this video, however, is not a standard officer. He is our regimental surgeon and does not typically fall in as an officer in battle, thus, a walking stick would be more appropriate for someone in his position.

I would describe your sergeant as having "resting smug face", but I suppose that's appropriate for the brits, haha. Seriously though, keep up the good work

All British soldiers during the American war for independence sported a black cockade. This was because King George came from the House of Hanover, whose cockade was black, thus the official English cockade was black. Despite fighting the English, colonists also sported a black cockade for the majority of the war. After a short period of using colored cockades to distinguish rank, they went back to wearing black---often adding certain elements for some sense of differentiation from their foes. When the White-Cockade-Wearing French joined the fight against the British, the Continentals pinned a White Cockade to their black cockade and the French vice-versa to symbolize the alliance. (This became known as the union cockade) Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
