Kaycee Brown Official you don’t have to pay to sync your lyrics. this guy is lying. don’t use this video. he’s been paid to talk against Distrokid. i’ve been using and releasing with Distrokid for over 2 years now. only thing u pay for us store maximizer
@@BlockDollazCanada Damn', sorry, no notification... Yes, they did the exact thing a lot of musicians are talking about, for example on Trustpilot. I describe it in a post in the Community-tab of my channel. 👋
Haha I loved this comment, choosing the right distribution service is something I’ve been thinking about a lot. I’m doing some research on how musicians weight the pros and cons of services tailored to help them. I’d love to buy you some lunch over a phone call to talk more about this!
hey gif i watches this video more than 9 times,,, united master is the best, cause , yes they take only 10% but you said they have partnerships and tehy get your music to more stores , more store is the way to get a fanbase,,
Really love the way you go into detail on these digital distribution platforms. It's so important to know what type of revenue and analytics your music is bringing in. GREAT CONTENT !
With distrokid and unitedmasters I will love using unitedmasters thinking about switching from distrokid to tunecore DISTRO definitely way behind in payments and taking my money
United Masters would be my clear choice but that right of first refusal portion of their contract worries me. I’m using Distrokid right now I paid for the upgraded version. So far I haven’t had any issues.
Exactly on the fence about that trying to think whose better overall because I don’t want get locked in with United masters because of that right of refusal
DITTO is a good company there interface is user friendly but if your putting up heavy streams make sure you write down your irsc code with these distribution companies because at anytime they can take your music down and all you can do is email...DO NOT USE THERE Promotional Services you will be disappointed because there is no ROI. Once you get going they will provide day to day updates charts of your streams so you can look at your growth
Maaan I switched from tunecore to Dsitrokid I just got my first payout these fools paid me $61 for 186k spotify plays I got paid the same amount for 12k spotify streams on tunecore.. I think they keeping my money the shit don't add up
Used this video years ago to decide and chose ditto but coming back now to share that I was given a broken smart link (all the links to your music release before it drops) and didn’t get an email back about it until like 3 days after it dropped. Big fumble imo and I’m switching to distro now. Choice is yours obvs just wanted y’all to know
i fw united masters heavy cuz i’m in college & i hate to spend money on anything especially some recurring shit (that’s just me) so united masters is my obvious choice and the app lay out is very easy to use. The upload process is super east and the release date is right at 12 everytime for me. Also the 10% is really not bad at all if we all being honest..
I ain’t mad at it. Different strokes for different folks - pause. The 10% thing... $10K for the year will cost you $1K for distribution vs. maybe $20 or $50 elsewhere.
from the review is sound like ditto is best , but most ppl tell me they have bad ex with ditto , so im still lost ,, i want an update about tunecore . how much is for youtube content id??
@@trillionbtamillion ya they take forever to respond I just switched to tooncore but they were too anal about song covers so I switched to distro and I’ve been happy besides for double charging me
That's a complaint you'll consistently find across all bargain distributors. They're not charging you for services equal to Tunecore or CD Baby. They're charging you less, for less. They might cut corners on customer service, distribute to less stores, etc. there's always an area they're coming up short to save money. It's a trade off.
Great Video! 💪🏿👏👏. Do United Masters or Ditto withhold 30% of your income for tax when paying non USA based artists? Also can I get my money paid to me in USD not local currency with them?
Back again. Check out Steve Freeman's blog on Ditto. He rated it the best, he tested the service, until he was accused of "illegal streaming" and Ditto only communicated by Twitter. After two scathing blogs, Ditto tried to make up but never mentioned the money he was owe, denying any sales at all, and said nothing about horrific customer service. They stopped communicating and never admitted any sales. The upfront service was good, the back office was criminal
Your off about the isrc and a few other things with distrokid. I do hip hop and I get content Id. I don’t pay $36 for isrc, they come when you release. The only thing that’s good about masters and ditto is the opportunities, distrokid doesn’t “steal” or do any of that I’ve used them for years and make good money. Thanks for the video I am going to try some singles and maybe an album with another 🙏🏼💕
I got on distrokid years ago. They were the only unlimited upload game in town. So far I have had no bad experiences for the most part. I'm not motivated to switch but I'm pretty sure if I was looking for a distributor I would be tempted to go elsewhere.
I’m switching because they keep denying my songs that are made by me there company is also ran by fucking bots so there’s no customer support it’s trash
United Masters got a 50 something dollars fee now with there united masters select, where you can submit music to the ESPN the NBA sometime even power105 its a yearly fee
I am using distrokid since 1year but the big turn off is they charge 5$ every year for Content Id & 0.99 to distribute to Shazam per song. There are like so much extras.
@@Devantey Everything is fine with distrokid infact....i love it... but I just don't like it when they charge extra for youtube money & shazam. That is why I am looking forward to do content Id through other distrubuter.
If you pay for united masters it's like 50 something dollars and you keep 100% of your masters and you get a lot more out of it I don't know why he didn't talk about that at all maybe it wasn't an option 10 months ago
It’s all with a grain of salt. I used Unitedmasters and they fucking sucked. I used Distrokid, and they’re good and they’re great. But they need better features to get you in front of people who need music, basically like Ditto. But if they’re a little cheaper I’m sure they’ll be the biggest distributor in the indie game.
I say go with United masters bc you can get a 2 weeks free trial for the select feature. I have a single called chopsticks and a album coming soon through UnitedMasters. If you don’t know what select artist is it’s basically unlimited releases and you choose your release date. But you get all that for 2 weeks for free and it cost less than distrokid even when you do start having to pay the fee. I recommend it. It is wayyyyyy better than amuse. Tbh amuse is a complete scam. It takes almost month just for songs to release. Go with UnitedMasters and keep all your money and dont worry about nobody stealing it. Make the good choice
Great video none of these other videos from other youtuber go as indepth as you did and left out a lot of vital info and your video is a lot shorter lol too. Thank you
@@allaboutwwe9269 Amuse allows you to keep 100% royalties. United takes that 10% of whatever you make off revenue which can be crazy if you don't make a lot
Ended up on this video because my band's latest release was just removed from Spotify and Distrokid is being shady AF. We're trying to have this fixed but I'm hopeless at this point DO NOT USE DISTROKID GUYS
Since you have an international audience you shoukd talk about international issues. Last month distrokid started taking between 10 and 30% (depending on the tax accord between the US and the user's country) of international users because of taxes. In Brazil its 30%, and this revenue is not tax free, Im going to have to pay brazillian taxes besides this 30% american tax. Most distributers are americans so according to the law, sooner or later other distributers are going to do the same as distrokid. Can you make a video about it?
Sorry but that's a mistake because your task is to submit your tax number from your country. At All Marketing Companies and Music Platforms. I e.g. tax number from Germany transfer to the marketing company and everything is O.K.
Thw only issue i have with UM is customer support. Rn they telling me my legal name and artist name is now trademarked and getting in touch has been a pain.
Pretty much. But, artists do it because the alternative is worse. Streams pay little, but they pay something. Most artists can't sell music, meaning nobody is willing to pay them for it. eCommerce platforms are $10 - $20 per month, if you go completely on your own that is a monthly fee for hosting and the domain name. You end up spending like $200 - $300 per year to get no sales. Artists that can get sales, don't care about streams, it's pretty much just icing.
I did my last 2 releases through Distro but im so tempted to move to United Masters because of the other opportunities like NBA, Apple Playlist, etc. I really like that. Plus i like how we can link our social media, have a website in their platform, etc. Those are useful features. BUT!! United Masters says "RU-vid Service temporarily unavailable" and at least in my opinion, people listen to youtube more than anything. I know i do.
They also changed their plan. Free users get into like 4 stores. Now you have to pay $5 per month to get what they used to give you on the free tier. The only positive is, paid users keep 100%.
@@Payusnomind yea I noticed that. That could mean out to $60 a year compared to $20 at distro. But UM offers the website where u can add your music, dates, and your store. So it does make up for the the extra $40 for that year. At the end of the day, $60 is still worth it. It's nothing. U can cut some grass in your neighborhood for that and BOOM! U got yourself a years worth of music to release and opportunities to get on other brands and have a website.
Thanks so much for all those info man! I was wondering if there is any advantage in choosing a distributor that is based in your home country when it comes to currencies? I could not find this info anywhere... and I mean when collecting payments rather than paying the annual fees. Cheers
Hello ! i learned alot from you! i have a question. do you recommend to distribute songs using distrokid to youtube even if the youtube channel is already monetize? or should i upload it separately? Thanks in advance!
Great video and breakdown! Really helpful information. I was curious to know do you need to have a Spotify, Apple Music and whatever other account set up before you sign up for Online Distributor such as DistoKid, or are the accounts made once you sign up for DistroKid?
@@Payusnomind Hi. what if you created accounts on all those platforms already. Will they link your distro kid accounts to the already existing accounts? because I have a few uploads on those accounts already.
thanks i am a indie producer looks like united masters in since i create hip hop and edm beats trying too get with playstation like the sync feature they have with united masters
Oh yes. And, get locked into a Right of First Refusal when they submit music for opportunities on your behalf or locked into an exclusive agreement if you submit yourself. There's more to it than the sticker price.
@@Payusnomind wow seems like you wouldn't recommend UnitedMaters much! I'm a new artiste in Africa, should I just go with Distrokid?? Would you say that's my best option starting out on my career? Thanks in advance for your answer🙏
@@ZakiaKunge1 Just starting out... If it's really important for you to do digital distribution, you should try Amuse, they have a tier that's completely free. That way, you can test and see if digital distribution is worth you paying for right now.
Distrokid paid me $61 for 186k streams on Spotify it doesn't add up I reached out to them and they told me to talk to Spotify. I did that and Spotify said they released all the money to my Distributor smh. Somebody owes me money and I can't find out how to get paid
@@itsWilliamOwen I wonder how long I have to fight this and how to fight this I keep getting repeated emails basically telling me to look at my Dashboard pre written emails
They do not allow you to use Content ID for those genres. Unless they’ve changed in the last week or so, it’s the same. When you go to upload a release, if you select Hip Hop or EDM as the genre, the box for Content ID is removed. I’ll check again though, just to be sure.
Butler Thier payment timeframe is anywhere between 6 month to a year. On numerous occasions they have been late with release dates for no reason. Even having set them 3 weeks prior. It’s not a good look for a label. As an indie artist, it might be ok but I couldn’t handle it anymore. I had been with them since 2011 btw.
