Actually its probably one of their worst to be honest, better than sickness yeah, if that's anything to go off. Dan has been playing that same riff since the sickness and it's gotten pretty old. This venom had way more growth in terms of guitar and that's just recently, I can't see the hype with this new song, pretty overrated if you ask me. I hope the new album gets better
Kind of a problem I've been having lately with Seether, Breaking Benjamin and now Disturbed, is that they're getting lumped into this "one-trick pony" song writing. Like I want to expect something from these guys but it's getting kind of boring and makes me less motivated to check out their new album. But it is a good song and it does give me hope for the new album. Just wish Hard Rock bands wouldn't box themselves in like this.
I agree, that's the problem with mainstream bands is that their target audience is the mainstream fans who's general expectation is to get the same sounding song over and over again, that's the sound they demand. It's safe, familiar, and is a proven successful formula so if you're a long-standing mainstream band you really have no reason to ever break out of that box. Luckily there will always be other bands a little beneath the surface that are still exciting and taking those chances and risks that the mainstream acts don't. That's where the real magic is happening, while the mainstream stuff is more for the casual fans. It all has a place. Bands like Disturbed, Seether, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, etc are all good gateway bands into other stuff that's even better but those bands are a good place to start. Sometimes you don't crave something unique and different, you just want something that's familiar sounding. That's why I come back to these kinds of bands.
@@MysticGuitar77 Yeah that's a true point. Like Breaking Benjamin and Disturbed were my gateway bands that got me into Metalcore and Deathcore. And I do find myself coming back to them a bunch. So it's not all bad and they still make great music. I am finding the singles are much less enjoyable than the album tho (Example like Seether and Chevelle's new albums). Great cover btw. Just wanted to rant a bit XD
It’s largely due to record-labels pushing deadlines & various requirements upon their acts. Not solely the bands themselves. Simple “mainstream songwriting” helps accomplish deadlines & pleases record-labels & their paycheck. Labels & managers get up to 20% of their artists revenue.
I think Seether "Si vis pacem" album was familiar but definitely one of their less mainstream sounding album except maybe 3 songs (Wasteland for example). Also every songwriter and lyricist has its own way to write, so I guess it comes quite natural that some guitar patterns, lyrical expressions repeat over a career. U can only write what u are able to play on guitar..
