Marc Davis, an animator on Peter Pan said in a interview in the early 2000s "I don't think we would do the Native Americans if we were making this movie now. And if we did, we definitely wouldn't do them the way we did back then."
The one with Santa Claus is not offensive only because he didn't touch the doll and stamp it okay But it also issued the black daughter say Mammy as though that was original speech of black people. And the fashion of the hair as people would try to depict all black people as having unruly untamed hair. 😑
@@terrellp22 Lmao what? They were never specifically targeted toward children at all, general audiences if anything. Not only were none of these first shown on TV, (except The Flintstones) these were mainly shown before feature films that also weren't targeted specifically towards children either.
@@terrellp22 not all of them: some of them were though, mainly the Disney cartoons, and even then they were more “family oriented” then “for kids”. Classic Warner Bros. Cartoons and Tom & Jerry were absolutely NOT for kids. 😂😂
If you are wondering about the second dumbo, it was in the 1800s about when the slaves used to be doing this work for punishment when they were treated like trash in the war
In 1941, as now, "roustabout" is defined as "a laborer on an oil rig", "a dock laborer or deckhand", or "a circus laborer". There's no racial connotation to it, much less any "racist" connotation to it.
another channel did mention that originally cartoons were meant for adults ,and it makes sense ,esp with the racism and dark themes that you would have to understand the real life equivalents in order to grasp it straight away....i remember watching some of these in the early 1990s and i just saw them as cartoons ,but being younger i still wondered why the crows had to talk and act that way ...i only seen few of these ,since the only cartoons i watched were cow and chicken and johnny bravo, and others around that time...but i knew of tom and jerry ,and few popeye episodes i saw were from a later date...
To think that people who were around as kids or even adults during the time that some of these were made are still alive today for example: living people who are now in their '90s to 100 or older were already adults by the 1940s! This just goes to show how far we've come since those cartoons were made!
These were horrific! As bad as these moments were there are far far worse ones! I don't want to tell them what they are because your head would explode. My eyes almost popped out of its skull!
If you push your thinking about poeple watching this in the 40-50 as kids… they are the one in charge in government right now. How do you think they see black people?
