Would you please do a show on the aluminum Land Rover V8 (3.9/4.2 with distributor, 4.0/4.6 with the distributorless setup) and what head-piston-rod-block combinations can be built using buick hardward? Will a 350 crank fit in the 3.9? what are the best heads? what rod and piston combo would work with that 350 crank? what about lifters and roller cams? Can SBC hydraulic roller lifters be used wth a custom ground roller cam in this config? etc? I am looking to build a naturally aspirated 3.9 based stroker with (relatively) mountains of low end and mid range torque.. Not a race car.. ideally in the 300hp 300ft-lb range.

The way I explain gear ratios is, think of how many turns on the input shaft equals one turn of the output shaft. The more turns is like adding a longer arm on the end of a breaker bar you're applying to load over a greater Distance by having more turns

You might think about making a drop crossmember for your transmission. I had to drop my toploader about an inch so the driveshaft would clear the tunnel.

Very cool info Dallas. Were the shifter mounting pads one way to identify the super t-10? Been decades but I remember seeing that pattern in the parts books.

Basically the more torque multiplication you ask the transmission to do in first gear the less reliable it will be. Someone should have a billet case designed...stronger material to begin with and easy to add material to high stress areas....also I wonder if there is space to add some type of reinforcement to the case...I wish I had the money laying around to mess with all of the ideas I have...just buy one and see if it's possible to weld reinforcement to the outside of the case or drill holes and add a tensioning device with plates on both sides to spread load over a larger area of the case....also I'm no Buick expert but is that a 455? Weren't standard 455's 2 bolt main ? And the rare high performance ones 4 bolt ? If so I'm now curious how far you could push a really well balanced 2 bolt bottom end...800 ft pnds and 7000 Rpm? What about the 4 bolt? Now I need someone to loan me a large sum of money so I can get this information for you guys... wouldn't want to deny you this very important information

Those are some stout transmissions,. Do you know anything about the new process 4 speeds? I picked one up several years ago, didn't know if it would be good for racing.
@mr.roddersneighborhood2740
@mr.roddersneighborhood2740 Год назад
some... if it's a New Process NP833, thats a Chrysler 833 that was used in Chevrolet Trucks in the early 80's with an overdrive and will bolt in place on any GM bell housing using a standard GM Clutch. Always wanted on and try it in a GM car. and would take the overdrive out and use a different gear set to make it into a true 4 speed once again.

@@mr.roddersneighborhood2740 I believe you are correct, I'm thinking it's 883, I'll have to go over to the other shop and dig it out.

I am curious what valve covers you have on that 350? They look like 66' and earlier 300/340 ones but I thought they had a different bolt pattern than the 350.
@mr.roddersneighborhood2740
@mr.roddersneighborhood2740 Год назад
You are correct, they are 66 and earlier 300 valve covers which are the exact same size and shape as the 350 but the bolt holes are in a different spot. I cut the flange off the 350 Buick and the tops off the 300 valve covers and welded them on there. Then I hammer and dollied the factory bolt grooves out of the 300 covers and knocked some bolt grooves in that fit the 350 bottoms. I was going for a factory style of look. For the price I have in the covers, I think I nailed it. The price of aftermarket valve covers are stupid expensive and these were virtually free, while maintaining the look and no one else has a set.
@bcavmechanic
@bcavmechanic Год назад
@@mr.roddersneighborhood2740 Cool. A great way to make the later engine look like the 300/340. Most would not notice the port layout at a glance and take the image of the valve covers and tall deck to think the engine was a 340.

Is it me or does the engine and trans look like they are sitting a bit high. Actually that might work well for weight transfer on launch. Especially with those narrow Hoosiers in SEGA S/S.
@mr.roddersneighborhood2740
@mr.roddersneighborhood2740 Год назад
The trans is sitting high, the engine is correct. I don’t have the proper trans mount. It’s about an inch higher than normal.

@@mr.roddersneighborhood2740 Do you know of any video or detailed guide to use a T5? I'm not interested in drag racing, but I would like something more for cruising in a small block Buick.
@mr.roddersneighborhood2740
@mr.roddersneighborhood2740 Год назад
@@ivanarrache5154 I don’t know if any video, but I do know the S10 t5 will bolt up to a stock BOP bellhousing and fit behind a small block Buick. Plus it will accept a hydraulic throw out bearing or even a cable assembly to install it in anything where clutch linkage would be hard to come by.
@ivanarrache5154
@ivanarrache5154 Год назад
@@mr.roddersneighborhood2740 I've seen people putting Mustang T5's (they're stronger) on Chevrolet's by putting two simple holes in the top of the bellhousing. But not doing it with a BOP, I don't know if the spindle has the correct length. I guess it doesn't matter how many tooth the input shaft has, the important thing is that it uses the correct clutch. There is even information to do this on Rover, but I can't find anything precise about BOP.
