Great review! I am in the market and this is on the short list along with a 32w Light Monkey. I had the opportunity to dive with one of these during fundies and was extremely impressed with it. With the e/o option it's a light that can definitely grow. I agree with the goodman handle criticisms, I also had issues with it staying tight.
I personally use a Light monkey 32w adjustable focus led primary light with a 15amp battery.. My dive buddy though uses is a focus 2.0 and really likes it. He does use a light monkey 15amp battery over the halcyon battery for increased burn time.. I don't know if I'm sold on the focus over the LM... But it is pretty, no doubt.
Thanks for your comment! I think that it simply depends on the dives you are planning to do. As i usually dive in real cold waters in Poland i rarely go for longer than an hour/hour and a half, so I didn't mention it while writing the review. Of course, you are completely right, a longer burn times are great, and any cannister with e/o will work, depending on your needs. I think that the size and burntimes combo in standard set are a nice balance, at least for my personal use! Have a good one! :)
I used an old 10w HID Halcyon, also with adjustable beam. It did its job pretty well. But i decided to get a Scaleo Infinity. Mosty because of the two battery options (with and without canister) and the included videolight
The only complaint I have is the Goodman. I am a fan of the standard Goodman Handles. The gap can be a line trap. Other than that, it is a great light.
I am a GUE trained diver, from Rec 1 to Tech 1 - and I don't wish to train with any other agency. I just wish that some of these GUE videos would review other gear. The diving industry is full of good quality gear, not just Halcyon. For example, I prefer the Goodman handle from Apeks, it is adjustable so that the gap can be decreased while closed on both sides and generally it is a more superior grip and much more comfortable to hold for hours despite being a tad heavier. That is without even mentioning price differences.
I have had the 2.0 with attached battery, no cord for while. I have the ”normal” goodman handle with thumloop. The light is great but 2 things that bothers me, the leverer to adjust the power is a bit flimsy and the attachement points with attached battery makes it so that i always have it clipped from back to double ender
Great review. I own this lamp and really love it for backmount. Would wish I had a way to also use it in sidemount as I use this config for my cave trips.
Nice review #thumbsUP but i dont dive it.. Got few HID lights like : Halcyon Explorer 21w (DIY li-ion upgraded) + 40w DIY upgradeed explorer lighthead DIY Apollo 2x 21w 24ah li-ion setup + DIY 2 x40w videolight LM 35w HID halcyon proteus 10w with 4,5ah nimh battery and a DIY Led upgraded proteus (1500lumens) would be nice to have a focus lighthead i think..
Nice head, and good light, however; is very poor quality on the charger for this price. No option for extending the cable. I bought Ammonite - a lot of changes are possible, better quality and much cheaper 😉🇵🇱🏆👍
