You played it correctly, she was a novice. Checking “c” cards is important.

Always better to under sell yourself. Rather pleasantly surprise someone than end up putting myself or others in danger.

Perfect response. There’s a real social-psychological indicator exuded by individuals with high-degrees experience. “Humility” when discussing personal KSA’s. Dunning-Kruger showed how this naturally develops in their model of experience/confidence. It’s a good indicator to look for when meeting new divers for the first time.

Open water with maybe 12 dives in total . What makes me say that is the diver was vertical most of the time . A cave diver would know to be horizontal . I could be wrong could be other issues.

"Diving is a diminishable skill". I'm stealing that. And it is the reason why I am going to be super conservative getting back into the water with my CCR that has been dry since January. Going to link up with my instructor in October and have a refresh. Dying seems too permanent.

@@__-oq8gz I have seen to many people do very reckless things in the water at all certification levels I have learned to ask how recently they have dove and if I’m doing anything beyond recreational limits I now ask to see electronic logs of their recent dives beyond recreational limits

interesting ... I personally only do salt and warm... so I can respect this video... been diving 40 years but in my mind every dive is a shakedown dive [ down in south fl ] and [Pac Rim / asia] I got my rear handed to me in Japan with surge at depth ... overconfidence kills going from cold to warm I always fear a overheated diver [it can happen] now as for warm to cold -- not my bag [ if I needed to do cold I wiould need to treat it as a new area be it below 60F or Ice... I have done minimal freshwater also I would be more at home in salt.. I respect the environment I dive and also am cautious in new settings.. ( I am curious was she mainly a saltwater ocean diver doing her first cold water in freshwater? ) that could kill her weighting which she should have calculated for... ( so 35F ) freshwater wetsuit no hood I see you decided on a dry suit there is a lot to absorb in this section of video

Not familiar with her gear. Not much experience. Has not been in the water for a long time (years). Never mastered buoyancy control.

Looks like she was tasked overloaded maybe being her first time at site ( trying to be nice) I spend as much time in the pool when I can’t dive. Trying to get to Gilboa

Possibly but at a certain level of diver a new sight that’s only a quarry shouldn’t pose any issues at all I didn’t make this video to be mean that’s why I withheld the name of this diver

@@overcash007 It’s professionalism if you ask me. Absolutely no disrespect to the customer, but like you just experienced here, there are all kinds of people, and if they haven’t dove with you before, you simply never know who’s honest. I always “trust, but verify” (to bring out the military adage). If they refuse, “That’s cool, have a great day, goodbye.” (Then calls other shops in the area and gives a heads up, just to be safe).

@@overcash007 Is rather avoid the “agency” discussion. We all have our feelings on which is better, standards, and more. But I will say, a garbage instructor and garbage training standards create “statistics”, and unfortunately, that’s the majority of dive instruction programs worldwide. In this video, the skills I saw demonstrated were not even on par with a basic course graduate with 6 dives in the books. Yet that’s my standard. 🤷🏼‍♂️☺️👍🏻

I'm not a diver... so my question may seem odd... but, Do you get like a punch card for every dive you've completed? Cave dive, get a punch Go 130ft deep, get a punch ...etc...
@overcash007
@overcash007 2 года назад
so we have what a called C cards which just shows your certification on what it skill it is you learned how to do there is a card for everything some are more useless than the plastic they are printed on but some are very important to relay your skill level to everyone else some of those cards are open water means you are at least certified to be in the water advanced open water means you have taken a few more skills and are " advanved " now as you go up some cards tell someone a lot from rescue diver to dive master to instructor on the recreational side of diving

I have never seen anyone narked at 20-30’ idk if that is even possible but this all started as soon as we went under to the first platform at 15’ so no I would say there is no way although I have heard of people getting narked at 60
@divecurrent
@divecurrent 2 года назад
At 20 feet, she’s not narced… she’s just showing her lack of skill. From what I’ve seen, when an inexperienced diver doesn’t think he or she are being watched they can get a bit lax. I remember doing this myself. I would do my best to “look good” when the instructor was watching me, and mess up when they weren’t 😂 I think she got taught being a “newb” 😂 probably a little embarrassed too. She’ll get it 👌 every dive is a learning dive. I’m just glad someone didn’t catch me being like this when I was starting out 😆
