Finn's girlfriend is Sherlyn Doloriel who also has a vlog and was Miss Scuba Philippines 2017. It's no wonder really that they are both involved in environmental causes.

He has an episode where they tried to “clean up” a badly infested reef and it was alarming. I’ve been a long time subscriber of his. It acts looks like a fun dive to do.

I was the first diver to take that specialty course from Alegria last year. I took 31 on my cert dive. I even make my own injectors. The COT takes about 24 hours to completely die and then anything will eat them, with most of the remnants completely gone within 72 hours. I can give you info about the process and I even make my own injectors.

I watch Finn Snow blogs all the time. I have been to couple places where he n Sherlyn have been around Cebu area. My house is on Camotes Island n my gf Liza n I go up to Bantayan Island n down south to Carcar

Crown of thorns are horrendous.. currently on Cebu in Liloan. You should see what they are doing to the great barrier reef in my home country Australia

I did one dive in Antique in December 2023; the corals were healthy and there were plenty of fish like barracuda and queen trigger fish. I didn't see any crown of thorns. I saw one when snorkeling in Guimaras. Yes, vinegar is said to be 100% effective when injected into the CoT. The one site I went diving on in Antique was pretty deep, though...the tops of the coral were at about 60 ft and I think I went to 90+ feet without even reaching the sand.

Hi Critter Hunter. These starfish are a real scourge for corals, these last years in Dauin, we trapped them with large pieces of coral above or when we were at the top of a drop off we threw them deep. This vinegar injection technique seems really effective and that's a good thing

Finn is telling like it is. The video where the COT Were removed with bars with hooks on them. During both dives there were 8 or more divers down at a given time. Death was only about 10 meters. You should watch his earlier underwater videos. The COT were everywhere. Almost 2 numerous to count.

Always enjoy the videos, but when you mentioned your wife’s home made spicy vinegar I literally laughed out loud. My wife also does this since she knows that I love spicy food. She’s from Cebu.

Hi Justin, in my several dives in the Philippines, especially on Apo island, our only idea was to destroy the thorny starfish by throwing them away from the drop off or burying them under a pile of large corals. We will surely be called to meet us since my house is in Masaplod Norte. enjoy

They tried that on the Great barrier reef it did nothing they are part of the eco system, and they dispersed on there own and the reef survived

@@CritterHunter Yes, I subscribed and viewing your channel extensively now since the Typhoon, and I saw Finn giving you guys some support. But also looked at some older videos and found this one - not sure if you knew that fact. Also that young girl you were teaching to scuba dive, she was so cute and shy. I have been to the Philippines many times over the past 9 years, and I am moving there on February 18th. I have a 16 Feb flight and a visa on the way, so I hope the flight goes. I have a Filipina family there and we are moving to Cebu City area. I was always interested in Scuba, but I don't know at my age. It may be too late for me.

Yeah mate Finn is only second to you being the MAN. Just for saying if you crush a crown a thorns in the center with a rock and pulverize its center it will not come back. Having vinegar and needles not gonna happen but cool. He went to Moalboal right after I left and did some good things on those evil stars. I give them 10 blows to the top center and they fall apart and it destroys their nervous system. Its fun too.

I understand that improper eradication of COTs can also mess with the natural order of things, and should be left to a more professional management approach of the ecosystem. BUT, I know that this is probably not possible in the Philippines.

Not possible. Dive operators always have to take things like this into their own hand to protect their reefs

It seems to me that every diver or even fishermen should own a vinegar injector gun or at least always have one ready on the boat.

Well most places don't have the issue. So if a place isn't overrun with them, I don't recommend killing them

@@CritterHunter Well, maybe just for a "just in case" scenario when there are more than 7 or 9. And a lot easier, as you say. I did see another video from Finnsnow where they saw dozens, left to inform the dive resort and get some help, returned to the dive site, but then only got to eradicate less than 20 because a lot more have already left. So maybe just in case.
