Divers swept in a fast current 

wasn't looking for an underwater rave, but I found one

legend says they are still behind that reef waiting for that current to stop

As an open water with only 16 dives, I would be shitting myself if this happens to me. You can tell they are experienced and know the spot.

There are actually some dives where this is supposed to happen, it clearly isn’t here, but there called drift dives. I went on one and our whole crew got swept out into the drop off area, but when we came up the boat was within 100 feet. Probably the best dive of my life besides a reck dive.

i love swimming underwater, I consider myself apt. But watching this video made me realize I know jackshit about diving. Holy shit. Looks amazing (and dangerous), gotta hit a good diving school.

Have only had 14 dives but had a drift dive off Nusa Lembongan as part of the advanced course. Went for about 30 mins along the reef and was freaking out the whole time, but was awesome. Was very fast. Key is to keep your cool and manage the breathing.

Getting my PADI open water and was surprised to learn that some divers ride these currents on purpose... impressive. I want to get to that skill level one day.

Those are some insane speeds! As someone with barely any practical experience with diving, are such current speeds common in the ocean? And this there some specific conditions that cause this?

Ive been in similar current. Its a blast!

Reminds me of an epic dive I had on Barracuda Reef, Cozumel's furthest northern reef. God was it beautiful, absolutely pristine and so much different than any other reef environment that cozumel presents. Too bad we all were superman the entire way through, i mean it was cool.. but we were all moving so fast that you just kept an eye on what was in front of you, and trying to find any sort of structure that you could use to slow down a little and let the group catch up. This was a 1 and done dive, if anyone got separated even for a moment the dive was to end immediately. It was freakin intense.

Drift diving is fun.. just sit and enjoy the ride as boat follows ur bubbles no finning ... Washing machines currents are not fun though when you get tossed around and you can taste the last meal in your mouth.

I thought of those tourists who have not returned from their diving to the boat, and got lost in open waters. Maybe a rip current took them. Also it could have been a shark there too. But i give you tumsbs up because you choose to live without fear. So even if you die because of it, you had life to the fullest. I would do it too if I didn't fear.
