This man is a useful idiot to globalist communists and is a victim of their subversion tactics. This is literally the exact type of useful idiot that yuri bezmenov said would be shot the day the communist seize power. Parenti pretends to know the pitfalls of socialism in that it's an ideal, but his contradictions and blind spots, which are ironically born of idealism, bring to mind an Orwell quote that I think describes this man perfectly. "Some ideas are so stupid, only intellectuals believe them"
@@Ko0okieeZ nah all the money was syphoned from the collective by the inevitable oligarchs that will never relinquish control of the supposed transitory state capitalist system. That's why we can't afford good audio. What's scary is the socialist sheep have no idea what I just said, yet will lap up Parenti's nonsense
Parenti is da man. Just got Contrary Notions. Great read. Everyone talks about Chomsky and that's cool. I prefer Parenti. He has a warmer sense of humor and a more passionate delivery. Reasoned rage at injustice.
Chomsky did some great work back in the day but he’s really lost his edge. He’s nothing but a shill for the Democratic Party now. Like Amy Goodman. Parenti is a deeper analyst than Chomsky ever was.
Unfortunately, Murdoch and his fellow oligarchs' control of the media narrative is so absolute that they don't need to pay attention to the Parentis of the world. When it comes to the world of ideas, we of the left (in the West, where the power is) are the 1%, but needless to say, unlike Murdoch and his craven kin, no one need pay us any heed. (If you think the Democrats in the US or their neo-liberal equivalents in other wealthy countries are substantively left, you are still under the delusion most of us brought up in the liberal tradition struggle to transcend.
Stunningly accurate! Could had been recorded yesterday! Thank Jimmy Dore and Max Blumenthal for mentioning his name on Feb 11, 2021! Surprisingly RU-vid never offered any of his clips as something I might be interested in! They only offer the Rot condemned here as worthy!
He really is great. At this point I think I've listened to almost every lecture he gave that's on RU-vid. Completely clarified my understanding of imperialism and how it actually functions, and for whom it functions for.
His class analysis of the late Roman Republic is also really great. Highly recommend "The Assassination of Julius Caeser" if you want to better understand that period of Roman history. Cuts through the horseshit that people like Gibbons were writing and that, unfortunately, is still being promulgated by people today *cough* Mike Duncan *cough*
@@AntonioGarmsci-cy5vt To me I think his lectures give people a new way to see things, and the right to engage in questioning. A lot of stupid people listen to him and Chomsky and think they know something, but the real something is a way of thinking, a logic. To me, MP is the most human and kind POV without being coddling.
Speaking of Michael Parenti's 1986 book "Inventing Reality: The Politics of the Mass Media" preceding Edward S. Hermann and Noam Chomsky's better known "Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media"(1988), I would like to draw the reader's attention to the even more obscure "Australia's Media Monopolies" (Widescope, Melbourne, 1977), by renowned Australian Marxist historian Humphrey McQueen. It contains a critique along the same lines. I suspect McQueen wouldn't make a claim to originality, it really is a standard Marxist critique, the value is in the bringing together of the empirical evidence and establishing an eye-opening (to me) exposition of how it is manifested in the geographical and temporal field in which it was located. It also shows the historical process of media concentration (in line with the broader trend in Capitalism towards Monopoly and the constant of cross-ownership across sectors) and speculates on the effects of technological change which have played out to a remarkable degree.
"“Freedom of the press” in bourgeois society means freedom for the rich systematically, unremittingly, daily, in millions of copies, to deceive, corrupt and fool the exploited and oppressed mass of the people, the poor" - V. I. Lenin, 1917

I just found this guy from a stranger source.. I'm absolutely intoxicated by these topics, and how sophisticated but digestively explained. But Michael is unbelievably inviting, and also somehow able to comfort others with these really challenging, and conflicting perspectives.. I don't say this to many. But Im beginning to really admire, and desire more of Michaels insight and thoughts. With everything going on currently, and everything that has happened. I've been very lost as an human. I see so much that hurts humanity, and see the very few hording mass wealth, off the backs of 2 many who have always been impoverished, unequally treated, hypocritically non stop abuse, from the ones who own, and control, and enforce then mandate these systems. I've been getting more and depressed, because I don't even know where to start to try to change these for the betterment of everyone, not just for the few. So Mr Michael parenti, u have lifted my depression, and opened my mind some how. And I truly appreciate that more than anyone will ever know. When the video ends.. I have changed.. but everything remains the same.
Heard his name mentioned on Jimmy Dore’s show by Max Blumenthal on Feb 11, 2021! Hopefully I’m just ignorant, and Parenti IS as well known as Chomsky, Hedges, West, Wolff, .... but I don’t think so! Best to download now before it’s targeted!
"Hopefully I’m just ignorant, and Parenti IS as well known as Chomsky, Hedges, West, Wolff, .... but I don’t think so!" No, Parenti is underrated, under-known, and under-appreciated. He doesn't share Chomsky's knee-jerk anti-Communism, has a nuanced critique of it well worth reading. See "Blackshirts and Reds" published by City Lights.
Chomsky and the others (but especially Chomsky) are “establishment friendly” versions of Parenti. They’re critical, but they generally denounce AND demonize the alternative systems that have been tried (USSR, China, Cuba, etc). Parenti views them in a nuanced way, and rejects the propaganda that the others accept or don’t dare challenge so that they can keep their platforms.
Fidel was wrong at the point that there is nothing backing the Dollar. There is a backing for the Dollar, the US Military and all the country´s know that.
I would also say the labor of the American taxpayer, Prison System, Alphabet Agencies, and the amassed resources of the Americas.America's. Which all is considered capital.
@enwurds in total agreement. chomsky, zinn, et al are also correct naysayers to the faulty, supposed fair accepted dichotomy(either/or) of views: "conservative celebration" or "liberal complaint". But Parenti's common, nyc working class delivery is more effective: the third view that is left out: " a radical analysis". Also Tarique Ali is an effective public speaker for social democracy. Chris Hedges would be good but he comes across severe. He needs a little humor when speaking.
@emotionalinvalid true. true. I like Tarique Ali as well. He carries himself with a little more class than most. I think I'm a closet fan of Anglophile oratory (and Huey Lewis and the News). Greg Palast, John Pilger, Seymour Hersh, Naomi Klien, and Russ Baker ain't too shabby neither.
@canaan1967 I'm enjoying some Naomi Klein right now. Good stuff. She also brings the added bonus of being much easier on the eyes than either Chomsky or Parenti. Beauty and brains, you gotta love it.
Sadly Klein came across badly in the ruckus over Planet of the Humans. I lost a bit of respect for her then. Plus, where is her commentary on the 2019 Bolivia coup and ongoing coup mongering in Venezuela & Nicaragua? She has apparently abandoned radicalism. Her excellent Shock Doctrine will stand the test of time imho as a classic of radical analysis--depending of course on whatever historical commentary remains as civilization unravels (as I now fear it will) over the next century.
She WAS "easy on the eyes" at one time (perhaps circa 2004). And was much easier to listen to, before she began carrying water for the Democratic Party.
Parenti Has a real inferiority complex complex I've been constantly to remind his audience that he belongs in the conversations with the Chomsky's the Zinns the v Vidals and others... right down to some of his mannerisms and speaking style.. style I see a little emulation going on. Nothing wrong just not necessary it's not necessary hes doing his thing and that's fine and great
