Interesting plant propagation techniques for storing over your winter. I hope they do well in Spring. On the other side of the planet in Australia where I live we had 42C, 108F today, not even Summer yet. Bushfires everywhere. I hope you survive the cold winter in Utah. Looking forward to your lawn in your next Spring.
Those are awesome plants. You will definitely reap the benefits in the summer when they are in full bloom. You are a good source of inspiration in a lot of things. Keep up the good work!
Great video! I planted one dalia this spring and got beautiful blooms. I dug it up out of the ground and put it in a paper bag. Now I'm going to have to check to see if I can split it. Thanks for showing how to split them.👵
Interesting. I do something similar with my lily tubers every fall. I just clean them off and put them in a plastic tote with the lid partially on and put them in the basement. About March they start sprouting and in late April I put them in the ground. It’s fun, kind of a family tradition. Thanks.
Yes it did help me. I only wish I could grow dahlias. I think my climates to warm. But, yesterday I picked up 2 different types of tulips, crocuses, and some ranunculus'. Zone 8b/9a. First time with bulbs. Wish me luck!
Do a dahlia give-away. Could you imagine the value of a Conor Ward Fuzzy Wuzzy tuber? Edit: I love the b-roll finish! It's as if we all had our lighters out waving them around.
I'd totally love to get some of your tubers dude. I couldn't really overwinter them here in GA, I still have some dormant bermuda, and some that isn't. I bet I could have dahlias year round.
When you plant the tubers in your flower bed, do you use a looser soil, such as half peat moss and half native soil? I grow roses, geraniums, and iris. Seeing your dahlias this season, I’m contemplating planting some next year.
Yeah Sooo many ways to do it. I stored in straight peat the first year being dry and my tubers didn't make it. They all shrilved up. I will check in a month to see if it's too wet in there
Love all the videos brother, my wife and I want to plant dahlias this upcoming season ...... any recommendations on where to get them and when to put them in ? Northern NJ zone 6a I believe.
I did it once but put them in plastic and then paper sacks instead of boxes. Some dried out. Some rotted. A few lived. It's a delicate balance of moisture and temperature. Also, it was a tremendous amount of work. I don't have a crawl space any more. I'm not sure where I would put them now. A spare fridge I guess or a chest freezer style fridge.
Yeah I've heard that you can put them in the fridge. Yes.. Delicate balance is right. I've had the same thing. Some dried out... Some rotten. This method I showed gave me the best results personally
Not if it's cold and dark. They grew in the bag because the garage was somewhat warm and there was sunlight and heat through those plastic bags. Key is... Cold. Just not freezing Temps
@@lawnrebel if you had to pick three of your fave, which would you recommend? How far apart did you space each plant? Any issues with pre emergent or your other fert hitting them?
BTW Connor mentioned he got his Dahlias at Swan Island Dahlias. There is a lot of other good info about Dahlias here: www.dahlias.com/howtogrowdahlias.aspx
