a few questions: is it not necessary to wait a few days for the wounds on the roots to heal? Isn't it better to remove all the soil from the roots by rinsing them with water? .... and watering the plant from above I noticed that the dust / dirt of the pom falls from the bottom of the pot and also a superficial white mold forms on the layer of pon (wouldn't it be better to rinse the pon before using it? when white mold forms I spray it with hydrogen peroxide

Hi Sandro, - is it not necessary to wait a few days for the wounds on the roots to heal? No - Isn't it better to remove all the soil from the roots by rinsing them with water? Yes, you can rinse the roots. *When I repot a plant in Pon without dividing it, I personally keep the soil around the roots so I can test the moisture levels of the soil with my fave soil moisture meter bit.ly/2yuXVpc to avoid over or under watering. *If I am repotting an overwatered plant, I will wash roots well and remove any damaged roots before potting the plant in Pon. - watering the plant from above I noticed that the dust / dirt of the pon falls from the bottom of the pot Yes, you can wash Pon before using if it is dry. Fresh Pon does not have much dust. Some amount of dirt will be there for a while even if the Pon is fresh. - superficial white mold forms on the layer of pon This means you are not providing enough time for the Pon to dry. For plants like Snake plant, Pon needs to dry very well/completely before the plant gets watered. When using the water reservoir of the planter, Do Not refill the reservoir as soon as it is empty. Allow the Pon to dry out between refills. Green Cheers! 🌱

Since snake plants don’t like to sit in moisture, how do the self watering pots work with them? Sansevieria are my favorite but been leery of self watering pots for them.
@Mycityplants
@Mycityplants 2 года назад
Hi Andi, Thank you for watching 🌱 Most people refill the reservoir as soon as plants used all the water, and this leads to the over watering issue. When Snake plants are potted in soil/potting mix: The most important thing about how to water Snake (Sansevieria) plants is to allow the potting mix to dry out completely - all the way through, before refilling the reservoir of Lechuza's self-watering planter. When plants are potted in PON: Small plants (4") - after all water is used, wait for approx. 3 weeks before refilling the reservoir Medium plants (6"-8") - after all water is used, wait for approx. 4-5 weeks before refilling the reservoir Large plants (10"-12") - after all water is used, wait for approx. 6-8 weeks before refilling the reservoir *** You can also tell if the plant is dehydrated and ready for a drink when leaves are not as firm and start looking wrinkly. Green Cheers!

Hello! New to your channel! Does using that new substrate help decrease pests and root rot? Also I want to know more about the pots you used too! Looks like some growth curve with setting it up but it looks high-tech! So cool! The pots and the substrate are super cool. I just saw the link in your description to get more info about it. Going there now! 😁

Hi Jasmine, Yes, the substrate is great for preventing root rot and for some pest issues (like gnats). Planters are great and plants love growing in these! Thank you for watching 🌱

I noticed you cut off the rhysome. Does that prevent it from rotting? I tried separating a pup and sticking it in soil but it rotted in a week. The whole leaf turned to mush

Hi Kaitlen, I have pruned some curved part of the roots to make it easier for me to repot it after all are divided. As for propagation, this article is very helpful www.masterclass.com/articles/how-to-propagate-snake-plant Green Luck and thank you for watching 🌱

Hi J. I repotted a severe root bound sansevieria as you did My worry is that the watering despite important at that stage, however could harm if the plant wasnt in need to be watered as its nature So what to do Or
@Mycityplants
@Mycityplants 9 месяцев назад
Hi! Thank you for watching. If you used moist/wet soil for repotting, no need to water the Snake plant but please do, when the soil gets completely dry! May your plant grow happy and healthy! Green Cheers!
@Melissa-hc9gs
@Melissa-hc9gs 3 года назад
Wow! Thank you for showing us how to divide them... I was told the 'best' way to propagate snake plants was to cut each leaf into 2" parts in water or soil, and it was a disaster. I had two sansevierias and now I only have one. At what size do you think it's good to try this? Mine only has 10 leaves at the moment. Why do you cut the little offshoots when you divide the plant?
@Mycityplants
@Mycityplants 3 года назад
Hi Melissa, If you have a type of plant where each stem/leaf has its own roots, you may divide the plant at any time. If your plant has one root system and leaves are growing in "flower look like" shape (Sansevieria Trifasciata), then division is not an option and you need to propagate it with leaf cuttings. May be this article can help: www.apieceofrainbow.com/propagate-sansevieria-snake-plant/ Thank you for watching! 🌱

Can you use moisture meter in pon? How to know when pon is dry?
@Mycityplants
@Mycityplants 2 года назад
Hi! Not the best tool for testing the moisture level of pon. I usually leave some soil around the roots when repotting plants that are growing in soil, so I can use the meter to test the moisture levels 😀 In this video Snake plants are potted in pon without any soil around the roots. Here is how I water these Snake plants: - fill up the reservoir - when the reservoir is empty/all water used, wait for 2-3 weeks (succulents/cacti) and refill the reservoir *** for small foliage plants "dry phase" between waterings is 7-10 days You can always use your finger, stick it in as deep as possible and test the moisture level of pon to make sure it is not wet, or water plants when the top layer looks very dry. Green Luck! Thank you for watching 🌱

May you please do a video on how many hours of sunlight a 4in, 6in, etc plant would need. I know it would depend on the plant but I would love to hear your thoughts.
@Mycityplants
@Mycityplants 3 года назад
Hi! Thank you for watching! 🌱 Snake plant (any size) can grow and be happy without any sunlight, and can handle direct sun as well!!! This is why I love these plants. Remember to rotate plants frequently to provide an equal light exposure to all sides 😀 *** Most plants prefer to stay away from direct sun and do best in a medium light environment. Check what are the light requirements for plants you have to make sure you are placing them in the right areas. Our Light Guide explains different light types: mycityplants.com/blogs/plant-journal/plant-light-guide Hope this helps. Green Luck!

Hi Juliette! How long do you need to wait to start using the reservoir? Is it the same as when planting them on soil? In other words 3 months
@Mycityplants
@Mycityplants 2 года назад
Hi! When it comes to Pon, you don't really have to wait but I would recommend to water from the top for the first couple of rounds to give the plant some time to adjust and get used to the new environment. Thank you for watching 🌱

How to check in the first weeks after replanting when I need to water? It's not as easy with pon as with soil. And another question: how long do I need to wait with snake plants before refilling the water reservoir after it reached min?
@Mycityplants
@Mycityplants 2 года назад
Hi! Thank you for watching 🌱 If you have watered your Snake plant well after repotting, you do not need to water it for a while. Snake plant is a succulent and prefers to stay dry for sometime before getting a drink. If your plant is small, wait for 2 + weeks before refilling the reservoir If your plant is medium size, wait 3+ weeks If you have a large plant, wait for 4+ weeks Green Luck!
