Would this treatment be damaging to orchids? I’ve had Phalaenopsis orchids for years and a new house plant sprouted scale. If it turns out they are affected, I don’t want to kill them trying to cure them.
@Mycityplants
@Mycityplants 15 дней назад
Hi! Thank you for watching! - Before treating your Orchid plants, try to spray the solution only on a few leaves, as for some, it can be damaging and burn leaves if they are young, sensitive, or already damaged badly by the infestation. - Switch to Neem Oil amzn.to/3V4ICvB as soon as the infestation is under control and minimal. Spray Lightly (stems, leaves top and under + top soil) once every 7-10 days until the issue is solved and no new signs of pests are present. - It is best to use just Neem Oil as the treatment for sensitive plants. Once a week - Wipe off visible bugs with 2-3 drops of dish soap diluted in 20oz water and LIGHTLY spray leaves, stems, and soil with Neem Oil. *** I would also recommend using Neem Oil for all your plants as a preventative measure during Spring-Summer or when you have a sick plant at home. Spray lightly once every 2-3 weeks. Green Luck! 🌱🌱🌱

Hi there! I have a rubber plant of 3 years now in a 12 inch diameter pot. There are 6 shoots and 2 of the shoots are about 30 inches tall. However, they are very thin stems and tend to fall over without support. Is there any way I can prune or replant this pot so it grows stronger and becomes more tree-like?

Hi, thanks for your video! Do you recommend bottom feeding of bird of paradise? I started having issues with gnats and have stopped watering my plant from the top, while using mosquito bits for a couple of weeks to break the gnats cycle. The soil doesn't get wet on the top, but I don't have a soil moisture meter - just using fingers to check. I want to make sure that my plant is having enough water.
@Mycityplants
@Mycityplants 15 дней назад
Hi! Thank you for watching! - Bottom watering will help with the gnat issue but it is important to water your Bird Of Paradise plant when the soil is dry enough. - Aerate the soil to help it dry out faster. Here is my post + video about how to save an overwatered plant where you can see how to aerate the soil: mycityplants.com/plant-care/how-to-save-an-overwatered-plant/ - The best is to use the Soil Meter. No informaation of what nutrions plants lack if yellow.
@Mycityplants
@Mycityplants 15 дней назад
Hi! Thank you for your comment. Yellow leaves can be caused by a number of nutrient deficiencies, including nitrogen, potassium, magnesium, iron, and manganese. To avoid this issue, plants need to be fertilized regularly. How frequent and when depends on the type of plants you have - but majority of plants need to be fertilized during Spring-Summer, when they are actively growing. Faulty moisture meter perhaps?
@Mycityplants
@Mycityplants 17 дней назад
HI! If a soil moisture meter reads dry the next day after watering, it could be due to several reasons: - Root Bound Plant: If the plant is root bound. - Too Much Sand or Drainage-Improving Materials: If the soil mix has a high proportion of sand or other drainage-improving materials, water might drain too quickly through the soil, leaving it dry shortly after watering. - Incorrect Insertion: The meter might not be inserted deeply enough or in the right location to get an accurate reading. It's important to insert the meter close to the root zone where moisture levels are most indicative of the plant's needs. - Malfunctioning Moisture Meter: The moisture meter itself could be faulty. - Using too little water: It is best to water the plant, wait for 20-30 min and test the soil using the meter - to make sure the amount of water you used have reached the lower roots and the plant is well watered. - Hydrophobic Soil: Sometimes soil can become hydrophobic (repelling water), especially if it has dried out completely. When this happens, water runs off or drains too quickly without properly moistening the soil. Hope this helps. Green Cheers!

@princessmami8112 Test your meter before buying a new one. :) If all your plants are potted in the same type of soil, you can test the soil with the meter outdoors. Soil around any outdoor plant will do. Find moist/wet spot to test. If the ground is dry, pour some water and test the soil after. If this test shows you the meter is working, the reasons below might explain it all: reasons: - Root Bound Plant: If the plant is root bound. @Mycityplants
@Mycityplants 15 дней назад
Hi! Thank you for your comment! The main reason why plants get overwatered in self-watering pots is that the reservoir is re-filled too soon. ** The reservoir needs to be filled only when the soil is dry and not as soon as it is empty. Thanks for the video. When the moisture level is uneven, do you wait until the higher moisture soil is 3-4. I have plants that can have both 3-4 on one side and 6-7 on another side. I see this mostly on large plants. Thanks!
@Mycityplants
@Mycityplants 28 дней назад
Hi! Thank you for watching! Large plants can handle waiting longer for the soil to dry out. If the dryer side is down to 1-3 and the other side is still above 4, water the dry side only. Rotate your plants more frequently as the difference in moisture levels around the pot can be due to an uneven floor. Green Cheers!
