Genesis 38:6-11 "6 And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, and hee name was Tamar. 7 But Er, Judah's firstborn, was a wicked in the sight of the LORD😊❤, and the LORD😊❤ put him to death. 8 Then Judah said to Onan, " Go in to your brother's wife and perform the duty of a brother- in -law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother." 9 Onan knew that the offspring would not be his. So whevever he went in to his brother's wife he would waste the semen on the ground, so as not to give offspring to his brother. 10 And what he did was wicked in the sight of the LORD, and he put him to death also. 11 Then Judah said to Tamar his daughter- in- law, " Remain a widow in your father's house, till Shelah my son grows up"- for he feared that he would die, like his brothers. The reference to Er's( Er was wicked God's sight) death it tantalizingly brief( from Genesis 38:7 "7 But Er, Judah's firstborn, was a wicked in the sight of the LORD😊❤, and the LORD😊❤ put him to death."( Genesis 38:7 ESV Study Bible)"( ESV Study Bible) ( Imagine one to two Scriptures describe Er, i am not talking the Television series Er but i am talking wicked Er, "...the LORD ( God ) put him to death."( Genesis 38:7 b ESV Study Bible. He would waste the semen( sperm) on the ground."(from Genesis 38:9 middle of the verse). Onan engages in coitus interruptus, not self- gratification- as some early rabbi mistakenly thought. A detailed explanation for his( wicked) action is not given, but selfishless is most likely explanation: he( Onan) probably feards that a son born to Tamar would be previlege over all other sons born to him, reducing the importance of his own family line and reducing his share of Judah❤'s inheritance.
