In January of 1969, Paul McCartney walks into rehearsals, sits down at the piano, and starts singing a beautiful melody seemingly pulled from the heavens. It was a moment that lasted just 20 seconds.

In the 1970s, 150 hours of Beatles rehearsal tapes recorded for the "Let It Be" documentary, were stolen and leaked onto the black market. 30 years later they were recovered by British and Dutch police during an intercontinental sting called "Operation Acetone." In 2021, some of these recordings were used for Peter Jackson's "Get Back" docuseries. A goldmine of rare and abandoned Beatles music remains on the cutting room floor.

In those days Paul McCartney seemed to have songs just falling out of his brain left, right and centre. Even George commented on Paul's ability to come up with melodies and even praised how beautiful they could be. John, Paul and George had their differences but I believe they still retained a deep love for each other and musical respect. I get so tired of all the people trying to make them hate each other and compare who was best in this or that. History clearly tell us that there will never be another band like them. Why not just appreciate them and stop the infantile bickering. Peace and love!

@@jaygeecee13 what don’t you know about the God part? Stop acting like you’re too rational (logical aka godly) for the source of all that is logical (logic aka “the one true God”) I understand that a lot of people don’t know that God is God (because x is always x but especially so when we’re describing the one that “is what it is” and demanded that x equal x) but if you guys don’t understand it, then keep studying Logic until you do. God is the most rational idea ever because it’s literally defined as the source of knowledge in the Tanakh and by the ancient philosophers who used terms like Hashem or Adonai to talk about what we would now call Logic. Forgive them for not speaking English and for not only using terms that more modern but less wise people accept. The whole reason they called God aka Logic “Hashem” meaning “the name” in Hebrew was to demonstrate that the name is arbitrary and that it’s the substance of logic and/or the essence of this incorporeal God that we “see” in our minds that actually matters. We can say “x” instead of Logic or God and talk about the x that created the universe just as fairly. By definition it will still be the case that if x is what led to everything that is logical (existing) then x is “the source of order, knowledge, proper reasoning and all that is logical” as we humans/logicians can and have defined both Logic and the God of Israel. x=y when x and y both equal c God=Logic when both God and Logic are defined as the source of all logical and/or existing concepts.

Paul is a genius. When he's dreaming, he wakes up with a song called "scrambled eggs'. Simply like that. And when he's sure that it's an original, it becomes "Yesterday"
@jacksonmorganfroghin4815
@jacksonmorganfroghin4815 Год назад
Good comment. Yesterday is perhaps the most played and recorded song in history. It took a Kelsey Grammer to finally write Scrambled Eggs. He tossed in a Salad as well. And sometimes said "Good night Seattle" at the end. Then to make fun of himself added, "Frasier has left the building." But Yesterday came to Paul in a dream right from God. It was the song that made the critics take the Beatles seriously. They were not just a flash in the pan. Their music will be around for at least a thousand years. Or longer. So will Frasier.

Crazy thing about The Beatles is that they were each musically gifted to a degree that, when they began creating and composing together, you'd get these waves of coherent, perfectly balanced and blended musical beauty and novelty that no one had ever heard, or expected before. These were gifts that would sometimes merge, driving their creations into an additive/resonant realm that you just don't find in other rock groups before or since. Many people (myself included) are still watching and waiting for some group to arrive that can rival them, but in modern music they are, to date, absolutely unparalleled.

Paul seems to have an in-built facility or ability to dream up melodies you think you've heard before - but you haven't. They are just so beautiful and complete and timeless and simply 'there'. His songs don't sound like they have been written by a human person - they sound like they have been planted in the ground like a seed and grown: something natural and organic, you know? He writes like how we all create dreams, free and perfect. I don't know...I can't quite describe the quality they have...a universality, a cosmic wholeness, perhaps... (someone please hold me down and give me my sleep medicine)

Even though George had resentments at times! He said when three Beatles got together for the Beatles anthology that it just created magic. He had that feeling again and it was just the three of them. It was like certain things that create fire. We were so blessed everything was perfectly aligned for us to have the Beatles in our lifetime. They are the greatest musical influence in my life. Thank you God. If John Lennon would have gone off to sea, with his father, there would have been no Beatles. But it had to happen. It wasn’t even their music they were average musicians. But when their voices combined there are no words to describe! I get chills just thinking about it. It was magic! The song writing the melodies and harmonies my God the harmonies. And they were always one step ahead of everyone else just when you were catching on they were moving on to something new and exciting that shocked the world. We were truly blessed. Thank you Jesus❤️Amen
@roypemberton1983
@roypemberton1983 Год назад
@Anthony Danese. They were definitely not just average musicians. True, they didn't do much in the way of super-fast, virtuoso playing such as we sometimes witness in heavy metal and prog rock but take a listen to some of George's lead guitar licks, listen to the duelling Harrison/ Lennon guitars on 'The End', listen to Macca's bass lines which have been the inspiration for many bassists (ironically, his bass line is one of the key elements that made George's 'Something' so amazingly good) and listen, even, to Ringo's one and only brief drum solo on 'The End' and you'll witness amazingly good playing. The myth of them being average musicians was, in part, created by their own modesty. Lennon said it outright in an interview. But to truly appreciate the brilliance of their playing ability, just listen to the BBC recordings. These were completely live performances of both their own material and covers of classic American numbers. Their performances are immaculate and demonstrate a playing ability matched by few others on the scene at the time. Unlike most, they were able to just pick up their instruments and give a flawless performance on the spot. Of course, it's all down to the many hours spent playing in the Hamburg clubs where they had to sink or swim - and the swam when most others would have sunk. It's all too easy to forget that virtually everything that followed - or even much that emerged at the time - built on what these four guys gave us, in performance/ playing terms as well as writing.

@Mountain Chief thank you for this detail. I was already aware that the three of them rotated these solos, which really excited me and confirmed my view that they were way better performers than many gave (or still give) then credit for, and the three different styles were very evident to me, I didn't previously know, for certain, what order they did them in, so that information is highly welcome. I have the ATMOS surround mix of the album which literally brings an incredible new dimension to the listening experience and each of the three appear in different places in the room, so it's easy to imagine the three of them standing around my room trying to good humouredly outdo each other. I'm going to re- listen armed with this new information and picture each of them stood in position with massive grins on their faces as they prove their consummate skills as players to add to their amazing writing skills. What a truly remarkable band and how right it is that they continue to hold pride of place as the best band in the world, ever. In some ways, I'm glad they finished when they did as I would have hated them to continue to the point where they fell from that lofty position. And also so glad that they went out on this incredible high.

Anthony I'm confused with your assessment of the Beatles! You say they were average musicians and at the same time you say they created magic? It's seems to me it's an oxymoron average musicians do not create magic. The Beatles, as you say, created magic their ability to grow, to create, to reinvent themselves was unparalleled and infinite. The four of them were magical. I may be wrong but even though John, Paul and George and even Ringo went on to create fantastic music, Paul wrote a song that has become almost a national anthem in Mull of Kyntire, even that, nothing is as good as when they created together. The very soul of the music feels as if missing something. I absolutely love the Beatles their music brought so much joy and meaning to my life ... and now I can use John's words " there are places I remember all my life ... but some have changed" ... Love them forever and always 🙏

There is no Superstition or Mythology involved. Just McCartney’s ability to create very interesting Melodies.

Thats how it is. Often times you're trying to write and something just comes out of the ether, fully realized, connections you couldn't conceive of otherwise just fall into place in a moment of serendipity. I've only had a handful of moments like that when writing music but when it happens, you recognize it instantly. There really is something like a muse out there.

Paul also recorded a short (about 55 seconds) catchy melody for the Beatles 1969 Christmas messages disc (which went out exclusively to members of their Fan Club). He plays the melody on guitar, while singing some lyrics for it. My guess is that he came up with this, while he was putting together the songs for his McCartney solo album. Wish he had continued working on this Christmas song, and formally recorded it at some point.

It is very beautiful, bravo for the arrangement which goes very well with ! I had listened a little to the nagra tapes and what impressed me the most was "The palace of the king of the birds"... A really beautiful theme, it could have been a movie music...

It's a really beautiful piece. As you have done so well here, there is actually a whole song in that 20 seconds, what a shame he didn't carry on and do something with it. Yes the Beatles were such geniuses that even their rubbish bin is magnitudes better than anyone else's best!
