This is probably going to be the longest comment that I have ever left on a video and it will probably get downvoted into oblivion. To start with I have a Bachelors in Marine Biology so I have a bit of knowledge to back my claim and I just wanted to say that sharks get a really bad rap from the public. So I wanted to take this chance to spread a little information about the sharks that can be played in the game. To start with the Great White Shark, reaching 4.6 to 6 meters in length it is an apex predator which can detect a drop of blood in 100 L of water and can detect small amounts of blood up to 5 km distance. They can reach speeds of 24 km/h when hunting and prefer to hunt by ambush attacking the prey from below. Their diet consists primarily of seals, sea lions, small toothed whales and carrion. They are listed as endangered due to commercial fishing and accidental capture in gill nets. The Tiger Shark can reach lengths of 5-7.5 m and are very indiscriminate eaters often being described as the 'garage cans' of the ocean. they are scavengers but will hunt stingrays, sea snakes, seals and birds. Sharks that have been necropsied have been found to carry license plates and other trash in their stomachs. They are listed as near threatened due to overfishing for fins, liver, and skin. The Mako ranges from 2.5 to 4.5 m dependent upon species and can reach speeds of 32 km/h with bursts up to 72 km/h and travel 55 km in a day. Their diet consist of primarily bony fish, dolphins, cephalopods, turtles and other sharks. They are listed as vulnerable due to commercial fishing and by catch. The Hammerhead can range from 0.9 to 6 m dependent on species and their diet primarily consists of fish, squid, crustaceans, and other sharks but stingrays are a particular favorite. They are listed as near threatened to endangered depending on the species due to commercial fishing. Having been in the water with a juvenile Hammerhead before when I was a kid, they are pretty chill sharks. The Thresher ranges from 3 -6 m depending upon the species with a diet consisting of primarily schooling fish and cephalopods. All 3 species are listed as endangered do to commercial and trophy fishing. The Bull shark is the only shark that I would be nervous about being in the water with. One of the more aggressive species the males can reach 2.2 m and the females 2.3-3.4 m. Their diet includes fish, stingrays, sea turtles, mollusks, other sharks, mammals, and echinoderms. What makes these shark unique is their ability to survive for extended periods in freshwater as well as salt water. Of the sharks listed the Great White, Tiger, and Bull are the top three on the International Shark Attack File. However when looking at the data, particularly for the Great White, most of these attacks were either in known feeding grounds or a case of mistaken identity, a shark mistaking a surfer on the surface for a seal. While it is not possible to avoid all risk when entering the water reasonable measures can be taken to avoid conflict. namely avoiding going in the water at dawn or dusk when sharks are more active and keeping track of any shark sightings in your area. Honestly humans do far more damage to sharks population than they could ever do to us.

Mark, the guns have 5 barrels because guns that fire underwater fire long needles instead of regular bullets, because of the increased density of water compared to air (more energy is required to push through water because there are more particles per volume). because of the increased energy required to separate water, rather than increase the projectile energy, which gives diminishing velocities as they move, the projectiles are thinned, meaning they have less water to separate and the length is increased to maintain mass (F=ma, e=1/2(mv^2)). Because of the length of the projectiles, the guns would either have to be very long, or be muzzle loaded. Additionally, because the guns are often air powered (like an airsoft gun), the projectiles have no casings, so must be muzzle loaded. Some underwater flechette (fancy French word for gun needles) are magazine fed though, but are very expensive comparatively, and as such makes sense why they must be purchased later in the game. interestingly, flechette ammunition was available in the Vietnam war, and Russia (shady on this bit) did eventually create a fully automatic rifle firing normal bullets that was usable above and below water. What is fascinating however, is that I appear to have no life. Edit: My phone autocorrected "airsoft gun" to "airport gun" and I thought that was worth pointing out. Edit: I liked my own comment.

The reason for the multiple barrels is to prevent water from getting the mechanim of the gun itself as most guns dont work very well underwater without being specifically made to do so and regular bullets dont work the best underwater.

In a game about sharks, Mark questions, multiple times, why a boat captain is missing an arm.

Tell you what, there's a really old PC game called "Shark! Hunting the Great White" which can serve as a kind of... warm up, or more gentle introduction for some of the concepts involved, compared to the more modern and hectic multiplayer Depth. It's slower, single player and whilst the heartbeat as a proximity warning is still in place, the old graphics take some of the sting out of the sharks appearing. Especially when some of the larger ones, like the Great White or Megalodon, do so and just end up looking very... derpy.

Geese this is so inaccurate. Bullsharks will DEFINITELY attack you since they are extremely territorial but hammerheads and most other sharks just avoid us or get too close to comfort because they are curious. Either way this is a good game.

All these guns are based on real life underwater guns. The reason they are all weird is you have to do weird stuff to guns to make them work underwater
