Terrific explanation, thank you. I’m due to do my first open water dive soon with my instructors and I’m going to use my Apple Watch, without having done the training for using computers yet this is a great introduction. Thank you!
This is the exact video that I was looking for after getting the app, and trying to fully understand the conservatism algorithm I am currently a student. I will be doing pool and open water within the next two weeks. I have three recreational dives prior, which made me fall in love with the sport, but this app is going to make a world of difference as far as logbooks and as a back up computer, really enjoyed the video. Thank you.
Great review. Subscribed. Just bought the Apple Ultra, and plan to compare it to my Garmin Descent MK1 next month in Hawaii. This was the most informative review I’ve seen so far, without a lot of time wasted on all the functionalily of the watch itself. Oh, and I plan on purchasing the monthly subscription, since we only do maybe 2 dive trips per year. That’s $20/year… not too bad.
This Watch Ultra is a really awesome Swiss Knife off a watch!!! Brilliant work for Oceanic+!!!! No surprise though as they’re excellent!!!! Price wise is super reasonable… What a watch the Watch Ultra is!!!
Thanks for the very interesting review, I already appreciate your tutorials on FCPX, this review was unexpected but much appreciated. I am a freshwater diver and used to bad visibility and cold water, the visibility I saw was pretty good for my habits... :) I remain skeptical with the subscription concept as you pointed out in the video (it is too expensive), the Oceanic app will not convince me to test the apple watch ultra... I will stay on Suunto or Sherwater.
I would consider this watch plus divecomputer, I just hate I need to buy a yearly subscription. I wouldn't even mind to buy it as a one timer. But yearly.
Really good explanation of how nitrogen is absorbed an back pass off. I have a Galileo Sol and the Ultra. Took the Ultra pbefore the app was released to dive in the Caribbean to be back up. Tested basic function which worked fine up to 70 ft. No deeper because the light diminishes to much for video and no lights. Question on the 2nd aborted dive was it user error or what that cause you to resurface?
The auto-launch did not work for some reason and launched the apple dive app instead. So I had to surface and launch the app manually. But it did work eventually
Thanks for making this video! Does it continue to function / monitor depth and no deco time when you go below 40m? I love my shearwaters but the compilation and beautiful screen are tempting 🙃
@@rippleguys thanks for clarifying! Seems like a decent scuba computer, but I bet they could turn it into a killer freedive computer with the right software🤞🏾
My husband and I both had an issue with OTU warning when we were diving with nitro recently. Our primary computers are both oceanic and they were fine and well within limits. Unfortunately oceanic doesn’t have anything explaining this issue yet.
Thanks. I didn't realize that the app is out. I plan on using it with my Ultra but I will have to see how I purchase it. $80 a month seems steep, I had figured it would be around $40.
Best review of the Oceanic+ app I’ve seen so far, thank you Steve. I prefer the water Colors of Bonaire ;-) One question though: is the Apple Watch going to be your main dive computer?
@@rippleguys we’re going back to Europe tonight for a one month holiday ! I’ll be getting a Garmin Descent MK2i, have sold my Apple Watch and will sell my Scubapro G2 when we get back on the island beginning January. The Descent 2 combines the best of both worlds 9n my opinion…
Looks great. I'd love to see how the compass performs underwater as I suspect this is what I'll be using the Apple Watch for the most as I already use a Dive Computer with integrated air. Also so far I've been disappointed that the App doesn't allow me to enter previous dives as I was hoping to consolidate them all into one app. Or am I missing something?
