Ok, I'm sorry but your testing is WILDY INCONSISTENT. Not testing the smaller watches because you ASSUME they will perform better based on weight and having the same sensors is not scientific at ALL. ALSO, I would advise you redo your test of the galaxy watches. Because they have a learning algorithm where the sensors improve with time. Your testing periods were too short. The same person must be wearing the watch for at least 7 days worth of time before it configured to the individual.
@@ljeans531 but if you follow Rob's channel, you can see that this a fact base on tests: smaller AWs bring better figures in each tested segments, and probably with same sensors (or at least not with more expensive types).
@Lasnem-rt1mm it doesn't matter, software and so many factors can change. It's not scientific at all. You can't use VIBE or educated wishes to determine data
I got oura ring 4 yesterday. It’s pretty cool. This ring will help me to get health reports because I have tattoos on the wrist and Apple Watch is working so bad.
I’ve had a fever while wearing my Apple Watch. It detected a +1.9 C difference from standard. It also detected a much higher respiratory rate. Surely enough, the morning after that night I was sick
Had multiple fevers, my ultra2 always straight up caught the anomalies in breathing and temp quite well. Blood oxygen is almost useless as aways though.
The problem with Apple is that it doesn't give you an understanding of what the data means. I want a score like Whoop gives you. How do I know if today is really good vs. good?
Can you make a video on different mobile apps for sleep tracking? Both stand-alone and ones that use the information from your smartwatch. Thank you! Love the Channel
Really appreciate the video. Anxiously waiting for the Apple watch Series 10 Sleep detection review and weightlifting ECG as it was really off compared to Apple Watch Series 9. Do you think it could be the strap not adjusting properly while weightlifting? Because you have found an issue in Ultra 2's strap. Thank youu soo much for making videos for people like us who are really into data.
It would be a good idea to have vital statistics during the day. not just at night. such as heart and respiratory rate, stress level, vo2 max, blood oxygen and physical activity.
Thanks for the video! My wife has chronic pain and psoriatic arthritis, amongst other auto-immune diseases. We got her a Whoop subscription about 6 months ago, which is quite expensive for us in South Africa, and she has been struggling to action anything from the data the whoop has collected. How are you using your whoop to monitor and action changes to your life for your own chronic condition, based on the data the data you get?
How can I change the threshold of what is typical for sleep? Only had 4,5hrs of sleep last night and it still says typical; but I'm not feeling well rested at all.
Please do a review of Huawei watch D2, i’m planning to buy one for the blood pressure function but I wanna know first if its other sensors are accurate.
Thanks for speculating on on why the correlation for some data could be lower. Would it be possible to control for the apple watch straps in future tests? Would like to confirm that both wrists have the same kind of strap, and were equally tight.
Bro I still don't get why this is still a discussion point, Apple depends on 3rd party app developers for apps that interpret this data Whoop or Oura like, i use an Apple watch and use Bevel after moving from Athlytic for this specific reason, I prefer the Apple Watch over every other device because for the most part, like you've shown on many of your videos that it is one of, if not the most accurate fitness device. This assessment would have be more fair if you had a Bevel subscription on your Apple Watch and compared that to the Oura and Whoop, lets all still remember that Apple is a Tech company first
Totally agree. I’ve been watching these videos for the past month trying to decide between Whoop and Apple Watch, but I keep stalling bc I can’t get a scientific comparison of Bevel/Athlytic and Whoop.
The comparison between watches has no relevance to the app. As you alluded to, the data is showing variation between devices. There was an assumption built into the experiment that both devices are identical, where in reality, each sensor on each watch will have a manufactured tolerance. The temp variation looks like noise as the readout is more granular than the repeatability and accuracy of the sensor. The blood O2 measurement seems to be much less accurate and have large variation, although I’m not sure how large the true variation is for reference. Definitely a control measurement would help.
Do you plan on testing the Amazfit T-Rex 3? Would love to hear your thoughts on what some people are considering a budget (and in some ways better) version of the Fenix 8
Rob "from the future": one question: did you wear the watches (1 vs 2) on the same wrist for the duration of the test? Interestingly, the blood flow into each arm is somewhat different, there is a difference in blood pressure (perfusion) probably less in a young healthy active person like you. So , what I would suggest, if you have time, do a crossover.....switch the watches to the other hand for another couple of days and then analyze the crossover data.....and then, maybe average them? Cheers
Is there an app that you love that can combine data from an Apple Watch, 8 Sleep and other trackers into a single, high quality view of health (with recommendations)?
I'm very happy with the vitals app. When I felt sick or I had too much alcohol or coffeine or a combination, then I had 1-2 metrics in the red region. Using other HRV analyzers sometimes I felt like they are giving me too much information not trustworthy. I was once super sick, vitals app showed me two im the red region, hrv tracker said I'm healthy.
I'd love to have an apple watch for the accuracy and function but the very thought of having to buy into the ecosystem (phone mainly) for the watch to function as intended, with all the bells & whistles, is putting me off that purchase.
For me there still isn’t a big enough upgrade from my series 7, so took mine in to Apple for the battery service and they ended up giving me a refurbished unit. So it’s pretty much like having a brand new series 7.
If readers like my idea put like. Suggestion: when you rate device from 1 to 5 stars change it or add a "TQS Index" (wich is not based on UI, Battery, personal taste but strictly on scientific math of total points, results of sensors accuracy heartbeat+spo2+sleep+exc...)
Comparison between two watches is informative, but using "center line" instead of "best fitting line" still makes more intuitive sense to me personally.
They’re not close enough like Garmin which looks at your sleep and HRV and combined to give you meaningful metrics like Recovery and Body battery - which make sense. Apple is still abstract and says you sleep “X” hours, okay and what about it ? Maybe they will get there with the vitals app.
Anecdotally I have an Oura ring and an Apple Watch 8 and have always found the Apple temperature and O2 readings incredibly suspect. So you can call it n=2 now ;)
I think I’ve tested everything in the meantime to find a whoop replacement, where I only need the Apple Watch... but unfortunately that doesn’t exist. And Apple could do it the easiest way to do it itself. The Apple Watch collects sooo much data..but makes absolutely nothing out of it..that’s frighteningly so bad, the vitals app is just a joke...Bevel and also Athlytic unfortunately don’t really replace whoop either ..
Not as accurate as it could be, compared to WHOOP, Oura. I wear all 3 continuously. The WHOOP app is the best app. Most times I put less credence in Athlytic than the others. My rating of apps: WHOOP: A Oura: B+ Athlytic: B- Garmin Connect: C I’ve used all of them for 2+ years.
im really surprised no watch can really measure skin temperature well in 2024.. watches can see hr, even blood pressure very decently, but temperature that can be measures with simple termometer even electronic one well, but watches struggles.... interesting and strange
Strange to see a lot of negative posts for a video test on your channel(!), this is highly irregular. All watches / rings users can accept if their devices need some improvements based on your tests, but Apple owners... While in your tests apple watches are in the top in accuracy, you say always positives about them, and here you just had a different view from healt perspectives, they can't understand it (as I always see: if they don't have a feature on apple devices, they say that is absolutely needless - until they got it some years later, and that time they are happy with that). Heavy with that guys, they are simple not open for the world, and they are stubborn as a hell. For me this video was interesting, I use an Oura3, and I like that with its health features so much, while next to it I can accept if that is not for sport - based on your test.
I too have been using the Athlytic app. Prior Whoop user and the information provided seems very similar. Not sure how it actually compares as I don’t have a current. Whoop device/membership to do a side-by-side comparison. Would love to see a video on this.
@@tmcfakenjust go with Athlytic, the free version shows variability for past 7-ish days and a recovery percentage, you can usually figure out what it means in the context of your training. Plus, you can set it to RMSSD that most other brands use, unlike Apple's inbuilt SDNN, which can't be changed in Health.
Thanks Rob. Apple unfortunately continues to disappoint for fitness/health tracking. It’s difficult for me to even take them seriously anymore. Little to no innovation, year after year. I really wanted to like and switch over to the platform but ended up going back to my Garmin. Keep up the great work!
As an IOS user who used Fitbit, I decided to try an apple watch out, I feel zero motivation with this watch. Not sure what they are doing. I guess it is a smart watch first after all.
Apple software is getting worse every year. After 10 years of the Apple Watch, Apple still hasn't made a single improvement to its data interpretation in the Health app. What are all the software engineers at Apple getting overpaid to do?
You don't have to pay every month for using the software though^^ But yeah classic Apple...software closed and rather made for casuals. The new Oura ring will be interesting. We also now had two major studies showing the ring is better in sleep stage tracking than the apple watch.
This guy is clearly biased towards Apple. You can find many videos on Apple but try looking for his Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 review and you will find a half arsed review. A watch such as the Galaxy Watch 7 deserves more thorough attention as many people have Samsung phones and are interested to know about Samsung products.
@@chriscarpunky that's not the point. I am making the point that for some reason he does not give the same attention to Samsung as he does to Apple. From his reviews and bias I nearly purchased an Apple phone and a Apple watch but thankfully I searched thoroughly on RU-vid for a Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 review and found one that made me change my mind. The Galaxy Watch 7 is a great buy, has a heart monitor that is almost identical to my treadmill and is accurate and reliable. As a Samsung smart phone owner I expect that kind of information to be made available via a review from a 'scientist' who did a half arsed review on the Watch 7 and who clearly spends much more time reviewing Apple products. I'm still waiting for his full galaxy watch 7 review.... if it ever comes! That watch has been out for a long time now by the way!
If you can’t afford the Apple ecosystem no need to fill your diaper about his content, start your own channel reviewing Samsung products…I’m sure you’ll be wildly successful
@@SlowJam007 your comment shows that your a dick on so many levels I wouldn't even know where to start with you. Go back to wearing your Mic playing your Xbox swearing at other players before bed time
We want Ultrahuman Air! Although, considering the quality of the ring itself, which dies after a day of use, and the clunky app, the accuracy of the sensors is also likely very low.
