Lol that's definitely how it should have sounded after some of those hard landings but I actually wish we could find a product that sounded like the general Lee's horn did. Trying to look online to find one that actually sounds proper and that's not easy. They all sound slightly off at best.
That was an autozone special on the drivers. Factory 1999 seats in prestine condition wrapped up in storage . Now 2 planted brackets, braum alpha x and corbeau belts these days. Dude fyi I have the same kit, it specifically says on the instructions.. DONT CHANGE THE LENGTH OF THE AIR LINES. They are short because the rubber lines expand and don’t keep pressure well. Mine works perfect. It’s because you extended the lines
@donovanbell5144 I split the line given in 1/5th, it was a gimmick and wtf is the "upgrade the compressor " lol the compressor is the entire unit. Upgrade the compressor , in this case ; is an entire horn. But thank you for yalls ever so insightful thoughts! It was a shit Chinese horn, it was fun to get out of bed for the first time in months and my kids loved the thing. It served its purpose well in that sense. It got pit in a forever nap on a shelf somewhere but I will HAPPILY send it to one of yall to "improve" if anyone wants a free project!

Mine did the same thing. Also, I'm in love with that switch board. Im just gonna install a dedicated air horn for a loud horn, and any other neat ones im going to rig up a soundboard with a pa speaker and put any customized sound i want.

I had been in the icu for months, too sick to drive prior, grew ulcers over my eyes requiring corneal transplants and years of PRGF treatment . That was the first thing I was able to do to the truck after relearning how to stand then walk lol. But yeah, it got a good cleaning months later. And dead nuts- YES a good cleaning would have been a better use of funds lol. I just needed to wrench, was I'm severe withdrawal...Better advice I can give is DONT DRINK ALCOHOL IN EXCESS FOR YEARS! IT WILL KILL YOU. And also- don't buy DOH horns off ebay... prior to getting sick I used that truck to haul trailers and load concrete, wood, asphalt , tools thru muddy jobsites around the carolinas, keeping it clean wasn't especially important but yeah, that caked up Carolina clay sure appears like rust in the video. The longer lines create more back pressure and make it take more time for the air to move. Combine that with a weak pump and it doesnt have enough power to make enough pressure to overcome the line pressure quickly and make the horn sound right.
Shorter than "enstruktshuns" called for, tried about 10" lines, didn't have thinner ID that would still fit so tried crude reducers , hit it with 16v, and tried switching lines around (the swapped lines on 16v was quite funny ) I recently found the damned thing, plan on an update re-trying ALL the suggestions and will open it up so stay tuned lol. I've used WOLO brand horns on my motorcycles since the 90s. I have no idea if they're made in China, but probably they are, since everything else is! I pay about 30 bucks for the two horn kits, and they have ALL worked perfectly -- they're very loud. I usually replace the relay from the kit with a good quality one, and waterproof it with RTV. I then use clamps for the airlines, and run the shortest airlines possible. I think the best lines for these horns would be extra stiff braided stainless steel, but the regular ones seem fine for my short 2 inch run from the compressor to the Y junction, then 6 inches to one horn and 8 to the other. In the case we're looking at in this video, i don't believe it's simply a cheap kit from China that is the problem. You may have a bad horn. Sometimes it's possible to troubleshoot for that kind of thing by temporarily swapping horns into different manifold outputs. Also there might be some benefit to tidying up the installation overall. I'm confused about this mounting location, too. On my motorcycle, I pretty much have to expose my horns to the elements, but a truck has a nice cozy compartment with a roof even! Why not mount your horns in the engine compartnent where they are protected from weather and also easier to mount and work on? I hope something wonderful happens for you today!
Length of air lines plays a big role, sometimes certain horns need shorter or longer tubes to tune them. Thats why you mount the horns as close to the compressor as possible.
Yeah, we tried with 18" lines as well as the 7' ea lines they supplied (without recommending anything; just "length you cut!" Lol, or some other self depreciating derogatory statement 🤣 but ALAS. I have since found the damn thing with 4 years worth of dust and will be uploading the video trying ALL the suggestions including different ID lines and fibslly breaking the thing apart if Noone wants it. It is 100% universal as the extra ports were plugged I'm assuming to sell as ooga train and etc with different plugs. But it was fun for all of us, the kids loved having me moving around again after Uncch had moved me to hospice about a year earlier! So I'm just happy to be here, and like both sides of my truck say these days "I hope something good happens to you today " 🙏 🙂
Yeah, I'm not lol, but I DO build custom audio as a hobby and quality boards, resistors, hell-even good solid core has gotten astronomical. Paid 56$ for 2 3.7ohm resistors few weeks back. Should have just bought another one of these and saved a few bucks 😆 🤣 😂

Mine sounded really good on my truck. Pain in the ass to put in. I have the cuca ratcha horn on my car and it sounds pretty bad but the Dixie horn on my truck works really well
@Chris151reed those was almost 5 years ago, no it was just a 5 trumpet kit, the kitvis sold with the same compressor with different holes plastic welded shut and om sure a slightly different valving to do different things, but this wasn't an electronic/programmable one like autozone had in the late 90s-00s( had one with over 50 songs from pink panther to godfather on a camry lol). But after literally making it from hospice to back to a semi normal life this was the first "project" I got to accomplish with my girls and that alone made it worth it! Gave nothing but smiles, and I'm just happy to be on the correct side of the flowers as my grandmother used to sat haha. Have a good one my friend!
You got to get the Dixieland kit from oriellys that’s the one I have dose not skip notes and plays well it wants you to run a 40 amp relay I cut my horn out and wired it directly to it on a 15 amp fuse and have had no problem been working for well over a year now
Wasn't actually, this nonsense even 5 years ago, had plenty of time to solder as I was still recovering from kidney and liver failure at an "extended stay inn" ie- UNCCH lol. It got back halved in Mendon,MA by SMG, it got a new fully built engine @JWR, built astro TC,and billet 4l79 based trans by Mason Smith,Frank @CPT, and my BOYYY Brenton Irving. So to be clear, now that 100% of the stock electronics are out of it, and about the only thing stock on the truck is the first 6' of ladder frame and body panels?- NOW ITS HELD TOGETHER BY E TAPE, BUTT CONNECTORS AND PRAYERS!!!! 😆 🤣. Would sound much better if you used 1/4"od hose. People always make the mistake of thinking bigger is better. The diaphragm needs the high compression in order to sound right. The only time a larger hose is better is to feed the tank or if you have a single solenoid supplying multiple horns.

SOMEONE will read it and get some knowledge from the comment and I truly do appreciate it! This was years ago after an extended hospital stay ; (icu->hospice->back to icu and miraculously home!) IT was one of the first projects my daughters and I tackled after getting back on feet (clumsily at best!) But we indeed tried multiple IDs and lengths, even some stiffer material; this was the best it ever sounded lol! It was a hoot, and full of nothing but real fun memories at this point. I had recently 'Rediscovered " the whole darn thing in an outbuilding here a while back and was thinking about making an ACTUAL video trying all sorts of things (including redoing some (already have most if our trial/error hoses and etc.),a lot from the comments that were silly and more than likely putting 150 shop air on it (thru my TECU harness rig). Me personally, I would just rather buy the right airhorn for the job and for that particular job, I would use a Nathan KLS train horn right where the spare tire used to sit. It’s always a great spot.

I had a cheap Dixie horn kit rabbit out of the box it was slow but the more I used it the better it sounded but the motor that turns the valve to the air pressure to each trumpet that gear ended up stripping and I was too lazy to pull the pump out so I just a couple of the ports together and just hooked up a single trumpet that had previous set of horns I had
Its all in the name of fun, that why we build these things. (Obvioisly THIS ZR2 was just a "big" work truck with a hot motor, ) but it was #7 S-Series for me. I can't get enough of these trucks
If you shorten the air lines it will make a better sound, had an issue like that on a mates truck who installed them, compressor way closer the the horns, shorter lines and sounds way better.

Fyi stock ZR2 interior with blazer lower mod, and 6x20amp breakers that have proven more useful , convenient, and tougher than a lot of acdelco or delphi products I've replaced. Paid about 100 for that panel, so if it had of lasted 6 months I would have been happy. 7 or so years later ; it's still being used with zero issues. Now! Back to the root of of your issues with a vehicle that's obviously disrupting your day in such a way, you deemed it necessary to spread your childish ignorance out for the world to read. A ripped autozone seat cover, ( ok, for adults with work trucks thst don't want to damage our nice stock seats- we install these things so that THEY get ripped and not the seats. We've gone over the usefulness of having breakers and good safe, quick capabilities of relay control. So I guess I'm really struggling to see any "makeover" whatsoever ; nonetheless why you felt like it was necessary to show your immaturity, rudeness, and general lack of self respect- evident by the need to crack a dumb joke knowing full well it makes YOU look dumb.
