Our five winners have been selected! Thank you everyone for the shares, likes, and # spirit. However, only a couple winners have reached out with addresses as requested. Those that do not respond within 1 more week, will miss out, and i'll open up the selection to others.
AQS, i'm sorry but you were not. However, I will be doing many more givaways in the future. I shall keep you in specific mind. And feel free to remind me as well, in future.
I bought one directly after you spoke of it on FB. It’s indeed incredible quality. The instructions are easy to follow (but the pictures could have been a bit better quality). It’s interesting that this device uses electric fields, direct current and capacitors whereas the Tesla coil uses magnetic fields, alternative current with coils. In my opinion, they are both very interesting, and somehow complete each other in that way.
Hey Jay, I bought a manual one a couple of years ago. And like most of them, they have two large capacitors similar to the leyden jars, that make much larger sparks by increasing the current and charge before it achieves sparks voltages. The result is thickened arcs about 6 times thicker and ability to go a lot longer. The cheap one I got, used only al foil inside a plastic tube with other al foil on outside. The inner one was not even siting precise, and bunched up and it still made a huge difference. The leyden jar dangles a chain into a jar of water and has al foil on the outside. The forerunner of the battery and capacitor. It however is capable of thousands of volts of static, and is the original term, lightning in a bottle. I did want to electro mechanically run mine. So I might buy this one and tweak with capacitors. I have an ARC of the Covenant Capacitor I have made up with a plastic storage and some aluminium sheeting rolls. It is a huge capacitor and takes ages to charge up. But I have a fault that needs insulating as it breaks down. I haven't done anything with it in a year or so, and you have reminded me. If it was GOLD COATED or made of Gold, it is suppose to REPEL Water. Seems GOLD both North and South Poles repel gold on a float test. So electrostatically charge up Gold and you have the parting of the Jordan river as in the biblical account of Joshua 3. Where it says the priests were bare foot carrying it, and as soon as their feet touched the water it parted away from them! Classic Clue! You see this little capacitor could hold enough charge current to kill 6 men. It jumped out at them like lightning. It had two angels with wings that acted like antennas and also as terminals. I believe in my pondering theories it has Several Settings. Of Close Circuit Short, Fully Open Circuit, Medium State where there is a SPARK between the two cherib wings. This mini lightning effect was worshipped as the presence of God by many as an idol. However this medium level of spark could be varied to be large or small and this would influence the charge needed to build up before it sparked. Fully OPEN with no spark it would be charged high enough to part the river Jordan it would seem in theory practicable. There are several who died by touching it or getting too close. The priests would know the secret to move one of the wings to touch the other using a wooden pole as insulator. One of the priests two sons got killed by it. Another was carrying it on his donkey and it stumbled and put out his hand to steady the ark and it killed him. Such would seem a bit strict by God striking them down with no mercy when they were on his side doing his work. But electricity of thousands of volts with a higher current build up. Bam! Added to this is the story of the son of Solomon and the queen of Sheba. And visiting and his accompanying men had a secret mission to steal the ark. So chances are there is at least a second one by the same plans by those who saw the original. For the story goes it went back to their land, Ethiopia. And there are stories of them having the ark there, hidden deep underground, and they have cartakers that last about a year and go blind. One kept running away at the time of the investigation of a researcher. The HOLY of HOLIES in the Jewish temple was GOLD lined as a RADIATION shield from the ARC constantly arcing away with such high voltages. When stolen by the Philistines, they contracted tumours and haemorrhoids. But thats another story. In Ethiopia ALL the Christian churches have their model of the Arc of the Covenant as an effigy they celebrate holding above their heads on certain occasions. As the rearcher found out. It was supposed to have been hidden on an island monastry on the River Nile for several hundred years. This is what housed the 10 Commandment Tablets and Aaron's Staff, Goliaths Sword and some other things. Protected by the security of the constant arcing display.
It's a great kit, thanks for letting me know about it. It went together in 10 minutes, and worked first time. The fiddliest thing was soldering the brushes - I think you missed that step out ;)
#SparKit - I think, the two electric motors are a good idea. It reduced the complexity of the mechanic setup. Using PCBs for the sides is also pretty handy. I like this kit, it is smart engineering.
Had to wait until the manufacturer did another run, but it is now available. Took forever by mail from New Zealand, but not the mfg. fault. As noted in another comment, you don't show the mounting of the brushes (estimate of distance from board would be nice). But it is all assembled now and works well. Keep up the good work ... great channel, professional presentation.
#SparKit This looks really cool! All the Wimshurst machines I have seen were hand cranked, but using a CD player motor like this makes sense. Very creative of the SparKit folks. Just shared the video on Twitter.
The kit works well. The only problem is that after a long time of not being used the machine will stop to produce arcs. To fix this try brushing a comb with your hair and pass it by the discs on the machine.
Wimshurst machines are so cool! At one time I had planned to build one, but never got to it. I can't believe you can get a kit now for only $30! #SparKit
#SparKit - Would be great for demo in my wife's class. She teaches science for special ed 6th , 7th , and 8th grade. The small town school barely can afford what they have and it needs replaced equipment all the time. $30 is good price though but if bought , would be out of our money. If school pays for it, it must be in a certain catalog and those are marked up to the sky ! Anyway , this looks like a very interesting device. I know about the old kind where you hand crank. Love your channel. Always interesting. : )
That is one of the coolest little things I have seen. It is not like I need an other static machine so it sucks to find such a cute Whimshurst gen. that I will have to add to the collection with it's tiny static whirl. That is a nice kit and a great video, good job, Thank you.
Well thank you! Really glad you enjoy my content, high voltage and energy sciences are something im very passionate about. Glad you enjoy them, and thanks for the share!
#Sparkit,Looks like it's going to be a great time to get the expanded range of others I think this would be a great tool in that arsenal. Thanks for your time to help all of us that have a need, thanks for your time.Lee,Thomas
#SparKit I am not even a teen yet and this would be a good addition to my 60kV flyback power supply that I made a few weeks ago. I haven't yet made capacitors for it and I would really like this kit to have some sparks with some more "umph" Thanks!!! P.S. I shared it but I'm not sure it really worked, so just letting you know that I DID try to share it. I think it worked, but I am not sure. :)
This is such an underrated channel.. such nice content and so few subscribers.. i don't understand.. Keep up the good work and *thank you* ! (ps: i am pissed that i missed the giveaway!)
Hey there will be more products in time, i' sure! Thanks for such kind words. In order for the channel to grow, I need subscribers who share my videos, and are excited to spread the love of high voltage.
Awesome machine. We messed around with a bigger version at science class in highschool. (35 years ago) Realy would like a #SparKit Nice video again Jay!
#SparkIt is an amazing kit! - I'm working at a local school after classes, doing experiments and workshops- This would be a great kit to evaluate! Doing a lot of electrostatic experiments on a budget (Leyden Jar, Electrophorus, Coherer) and kids always get a kick out of things like this :-)
The music was a little bit loud although I love it. And I love your videos and that sparkit is astonishing omg. It’s simple and amazing!!! #SparKit ROXXX!!!!
#SparKit Hi Jay. I am Kian (10 years old), and have been following your channel for some time now. I even did a build on my channel of your Tesla coil (and promoted / linked your channel to my subscribers) Unfortunately I do not have Facebook, so can not share it. I would love to do a build on my channel of the SparKit. Thank you for adding me to the raffel. And as always. You stay classy :-)
@@Ucceah 2 years later... Thank you. I've build several high voltage devices in the lats years (and still living :-) ) Thank you. A van der Graaf is indeed an easy build
#SparKit Would love to have this on my Desk. When I was in school we often used a much bigger one in our physics class. I often thought about building one myself, because I was so fascinated.
#sparkit This is absolutely amazing 😉 I don’t mind if I don’t win it But it’s pretty mad, and for $30 what could go wrong. I would most certainly make a video on this and assembling this as I love electricity, thunderstorms and Airplanes 🙂
Absolutely amazing for $30! The build quality is outstanding. I knew you could use 2 motors with one reverse biased (one with backwards vcc input) instead of that twist a rubber band or whatever to get the disk's rotation to oppose eachother! #Sparkit! I'm too late for the giveaway however thats ok. I'll purchase one on my own or build a huge upscale version using JLCPCB for the board design.
Was excited to see I was one of the winners and thanks a ton! - The only ABOUT I found to respond to winning was clicking your channel icon. I sent my address but have not seen a reply. Did I send it to wrong place ?
Hi, i've received your address. Thank you! Trying to wait a few more days to give the remaining people a change to respond, then kits will be sent off!
Is it ok if I upload a video about this mini wimshurst machine, and say that you have a better video of it, and link to this video your channel, (and maybe a link to the machine?) And on a related note, I found out how to do "earth bending," which works with both the wimshurst machine and (presumably) a voltage multiplier. By connecting one end of the machine to ground, holding the other end, and standing on an insulating platform, you can hold the other hand flat above a grounded tray of sand. (Because sand is kind of insulating, it works best with a thin layer.) the sand should jump up and down between the tray and hand, similar to a Franklin's bell. I assume the setup with a voltage multiplier is similar to water bending.
Thank you for this great kit. Unfortunately I brake one brush When I assembly the kit. How can I fix it, In can replace or buy from somewhere? Thank very much
#SparKit - Another Great Video, I love it, but without explanation of the SparKit theory, hope you give the working theory in the coming next video. Hope I can get the Kit to play with, Keep Going.
Ng, please email me your address through the 'about us' section on our home page. You are one of five winning Plasmateers! One of the winners has not provided an address, after ten days. You will be taking his spot!
Jay - What do you keep doing to your knuckles??? I'm binging on your vids ... 2.40am and I'm almost done! Keep up the brilliant vids! And stay stylish lol
Hi Jay... I have run this device for a while now and have been trying to figure out something.... As you shorten the spark gap distance, the motor runs faster....!!!! how?? they are not connected???? I think it is inductance through the motor casing.... would this be correct?
Actually, it is because as the device builds up a charge, the charge repels the rotor, and resists additional charge. The rotor now has to work against a drag caused by the built up charge, until the spark discharges everything. Then it speeds up and starts to slow down when the charge builds up again. If the spark gap is smaller, then it never builds up a huge charge, allowing the rotors to spin faster.
Thanks for the info... it helps a lot.... I've also built a couple of Layden jars... they can store a larger capacitance which results in stronger sparks... The Sparkit is a great kit for experimental use....
#SparKit Its a great video (like always) I would love to have one of these DIY wimshurst machines because I'm a big fan of electricity stuff. I'm doing this stuff for 4 years now and having one of these would be just awesome!
Jay, you are an actor and youtuber. But not to sound rude, while doing science there's no need to dress up that tip top. But your content is amazing as usual. No hate! Just saying.
#SparkIt OMG I've been wanting one of these for a long time. I'm a teenager who is going off to do dual enrollment and would love some more hands on experience before entering my circuitry class #SparkIt
#sparkit would be a great project to do with my kids, I use 3d printing as well as building fireworks and other diy kits such as mini sterling engines to keep my little minions interested in engineering and physics.
#SparKit, cause why not. But please build/share SSTC with interrupter for listening music. That's easier to impress friends/family than the spark gap coil you made. Thanks.
Your style is amazing and different dude....but if you would have explained how this kit actually works...that would be better i think...overall video was very good as always....#SparKit
#sparkit Love your content, it teaches me so much about electricity and has given me a new insight in the world. Keep doing what your doing with your high quality content and you will reach big places!!!
Good morning, yes I have selected the winners. However, half of them are not responding. If they do not respond within one more week, their spots will be passed to the next people to be chosen!
#SparKit It would be realy nice to have one of these in my collection that consits of an old Ruhmkorff coil, Tesla coil and hand driven Wimshurst Machine.
#SparKit Hi i'm Justin again the guy that was talking about the tesla coils for my science fair project. left your 172 like. P.S. Are you like famous now?
Warrick Taylor I mean that I have a few high voltage generators already, and when you create an electric arc it creates ozone gas which is toxic, so less high voltage generator mean less ozone in my room
This sparks some thoughts: could that arc induce a voltage in a coil/transformer, that would be sufficient to produce enough current to keep 2 AA batteries topped off? Yea, you know what I am trying to say here. (grin). #SparKit
Hi J. Unfortunately, this device uses far more power than it generates. the sparks you see constitute perhaps 50% of the energy this device uses, so if the sparks were fed back into the system, batteries would still die.
